Really good food - Edit
Really good food especially the oyster mushrooms and wontons. Bit pricey compared to other restaurants though.

Not Worth it - Edit
YANGEGE belongs to the same restaurant group as Lakeside Veggie, which holds a Michelin star. After YANGEGE stopped offering its hot pot buffet, several dishes from Lakeside Veggie’s menu were reportedly moved here. Because of that connection and the fact they actively advertise the Michelin-starred restaurant at the entrance expectations are naturally high.
Read moreWe visited twice during our trip to Shanghai. Unfortunately, the food was underwhelming. Not terrible, but far from memorable I would rate it around 2 stars for food. Given the reputation the group promotes, the culinary experience simply didn’t live up to the standard they associate themselves with.
Service, however, was the real issue. One hostess (pictured) was openly unwelcoming toward foreigners and made us feel uncomfortable from the moment we arrived. The rest of the staff were polite, but her attitude set the tone and left a lasting negative impression.
We also noticed a clear difference in treatment between Chinese customers and us. At nearby tables, staff carefully served soup into each guest’s bowl when the hot pot arrived. At our table, the pot was simply placed down without any assistance or explanation. Small gestures like that matter they communicate whether guests feel valued or not.
We travel often, visit restaurants all over the world, and treat everyone with kindness and respect. We don’t expect special treatment just equal treatment. If a restaurant promotes its Michelin-star association as part of its identity, consistency in service standards for all guests should be fundamental.

Amazing - Edit
They do not offer the Hot Pot buffet anymore but they offer hotpot which was great and affordable. The waiter helped us with the hotpot. The Lotusdish was amazing.

Update 2026: Buffett is closed, you choose from the menu now. It’s easier, cheaper, food still good but not as fancy as it used to be
Read moreThis was my second time at Yangege, first time was without reservation (would not recommend).
Staff speaks little English but is very friendly and translation apps are helpful.
Happy cow says fully vegan but wasn't sure if the first drink they serve is with honey though.
Alipay & cash only, no credit card or Apple Pay.
Definitely will come back! #Veganuary

Vegan hotpot! - Edit
I came here several time for the hotpot (fixed prie, all you can eat buffet), loads of mushrooms from Yunnan and other veggies, fake meat, tofu, etc. The spot itself feels very luxurious and you could definitely go there for a special occasion.

Have been here multiple times over the past few years. I went today for the first time since the removed the fixed price system. Food is still delicious, and staff is friendly as always.

Lovely extravagant vegan hot pot. Don’t miss it! - Edit
This wonderful place is certainly the best and likely only fully vegan hot pot currently in Shanghai. There used to be a place called Vegan Hot Pot but I believe they closed during the pandemic. Yangege is tastier and has better atmosphere!
Read moreThe staff are very friendly and will help you cook the food if you want assistance. They surprised us with a mushroom sashimi dish which was scrumptious. It’s an all-you-can-eat concept which includes dumplings or other dim sum foods on top of the multitude of veggies and things you can cook in the hot pot! Don’t forget to make your own dipping sauce!
November 2025 update: I’m reducing the rating from 5 stars to 4. They seem to have changed the format significantly. It’s no longer fixed price. All the side items and appetizers cost extra, and the hot pot comes as a fixed set without the ability to customize. They took away the buffet where you can choose what to cook in your hot pot and where you could make your own sauce. In short, the flavors are still wonderful but they have taken away all the fun parts of the hot pot experience.

Disappointing - Edit
Beautiful setting and service was friendly. All the dishes looked pretty and well taken care of, but were somewhat lacking in flavour. Not what I expected for these prices. Also, contrary to some comments here, this is not a hotpot place.

No Hotpot Buffet available!! - Edit
The food was tasty, though not extraordinary. Some dishes, like the sweet lotus, were excellent. Prices were on the higher side. My rating might also reflect some disappointment that there was no hot pot buffet as I had expected.

Very unique dinner! - Edit
Highly recommended if you are looking for something typical and tasteful. There are a lot of vegetables, mushrooms, tofus but also some dumplings and fried stuff home made. The staff is really nice and one of the waitress speaks english if needed.
Read moreWorth the price (~450¥ for two people) because you can eat as much as you want, and the products are really good.

A must go in Shanghai!! - Edit
I can’t even describe how amazing this meal was!! It is a completely vegan hot pot with an unlimited selection of veggies, tofu and much more! It also came with included sides like rice, dumplings, and dessert. It’s more on the expensive side but completely worth it considering how amazing the staff, how much food you get, and the whole experience. 1000000/10!!!

Amazing hotpot open buffet - Edit
All you can eat hotpot. Chinese authentic. Completely vegan. Fixed price per person regardless of drinks or food. Must try in China as hotpot is very popular Chinese food but difficult to find vegan due to broth often containing animal products elsewhere.

We paid around 220¥ per person but as far as I understood it everything is included in the price. The staff was very friendly and showed us how to eat hotpot😄They had such a huge variety of veggies and mushrooms and it’s just so much fun to cook and customise the food to your liking. Highly recommend you reserve a table!

Thanks! Sound delicious. I have a question. Is the broth spicy? Or is there an alternative mild broth without chili? Many thanks for the answer

The most amazing dinner I’ve ever had! - Edit
The meal was honestly mind blowing! There were so many different kinds of mushrooms and foods to try. The hotpot was absolutely stunning and so delicious! I wish we had longer there because it truely was an experience. As an Australian this meal would cost $200 at least per person I’d say but I think it was about $50AUD so it was amazing. The ice cream at the end was the cherry on top.

Great find on my first day in Shanghai! - Edit
My main concern is I may have peaked too early finding this on my first evening.
Read moreIt was daunting at first because I didn’t understand what type of place this was but luckily some of the waitresses spoke a little English and could probably see me looking a bit lost and confused.
You order your hot pot and some cooked sides initially then make your way to the buffet counter to pick up items to add to your hot pot.
I played it safe with the tomato based hot pot and after thinking I eat it like soup and the buffet was a separate thing one of the waitresses showed me what I was suppose to be doing.
All tasted really good, much of which I didn’t know what it was admittedly
Overall a very tasty first day and will probably be coming back at some point.
My meal costs about £27 for the hot pot buffet, sides and pot of tea. Accepted VISA
