Delicious and fast - Edit
They have one set meal for each lunch and each dinner. I visited on a Tuesday at lunch so I was served the red kidney beans and veggies with brown rice. They were tasty and filling. Service was fast and friendly, and even if you aren’t a student, the price is fantastic for the amount of food you get.

Secret vegan dessert! - Edit
They now have a secret vegan dessert if you ask for it. It was sticky date pudding when I went. Don't know if it changes.

Filling and healthy, probably more of a place for a cheap meal when you don’t have time to get something properly

Great lunch options and unlimited cheap eats for the backpackers. Ate multiple times, but have to clarify vegan with the staff for everything.

Really delicious flavourful food. Amazing that you get unlimited refills too! They had a vegan alternative for the dessert and it was also yum!

#Studentlife - Edit
I've been coming here since 1998! I used to always come here when I was a student and working in the city. Cheap, wholesome food. Share a table with randoms and have a chat. All you can eat, one meal option per day that changes each day of the week. Ask for the vegan option and dessert. Sometimes they don't have vegan dessert.

Great food and they have a vegan alternative desert. Always cheerful. - Edit
Love their food, limited option depending on the day or the meal (lunch or dinner). Vegan food and a vegan desert I’d you ask for it otherwise it’s vegetarian. More of a cafe than a restaurant.

Crossways is a Melbourne institution. After four decades, there is no doubt that the people who work at Crossways know how to make simple yet tasty food. I was super pleased to learn that there is a vegan option for dessert every day now; the mains have been vegan for a long time already.
Read moreI had a great meal of rice, curry, and pappadums, plus a not-too-sweet tapioca dessert. Fabulous flavours delivered hot and fresh!
The new premises are not as atmospheric as the original, almost-secret upstairs cubby hole of many years ago, but hopefully the new easy-to-access street-fronted location will be a bonus, not a drawback. There is indoor and (covered) outdoor seating available, and the place was super clean.
Pros: Tasty food, Reasonable price, Unlimited refills

Clean, healthy, satisfying - Edit
Food is simple and plenty of seating available. Venue is clean and well lit. The rice and curry alone is filling enough; the dessert is extra to satisfy large appetites.

Amazing!! - Edit
Absolutely loved this little gem. Delicious food, lovely staff and brilliant value for money! It’s $8.95 for a 2 course meal (and you can have as many seconds as you like!) and a drink (refillable). The main course was vegan, 2 curries with rice and poppadoms, which was all amazing. The dessert was sponge and custard (only vegetarian) but the server asked us if we were vegan and had a vegan apple crumble prepared as an alternative, which was also delicious! The drink was orange squash. The food served changes daily, a board in the restaurant has all of the weeks meals displayed. The main course is always vegan, but the dessert is often only vegetarian, but they may have a vegan option available too, as they did for us. Would highly recommend to any vegans or vegetarians looking for great affordable food in Melbourne!

Me and my partner had an early dinner here, guys are super lovely, super cheap to eat, and the food is AMAZING, definitely delicious and not “just ok” as previously reviewed... and we stayed full for hours although we ate early! One star less because the dessert (date halwa) wasn’t vegan😔 so pls ask beforehand!!

Just ok. - Edit
Ok, so at $8.95 it is definitely cheap. But vegetarians get a dessert included and vegans don’t, and pay the same. There is only one option with rice and papadums. May have been worth $4.00 in my opinion. I didn’t really like the taste either. It was just ok. I won’t be returning.

Second favourite food place in the entire world - Edit
When I lived in Melbourne I ate here almost every second day, with the other half of my meals being at Om vegetarian (my true one and only). The curries are almost always delicious, the cordial is great, they have vegan dessert, and the pappadums are always perfect. It's very very cheap too, especially for students. I can't speak high enough praise of crossways.

Great little spot! - Edit
My wife and I ran into this place while out exploring Melbourne and decided to pop in (the price drew us in). Great friendly staff and super delicious food. Each day is a different menu and it’s all you can eat for only $8.95!! They offer discounts for students and healthcare card holders as well. If you’re in the Melbourne CBD do not miss this place!

Best value for money - Edit
Crossways is one of my favourite places in Melbourne. Offering great all you can eat food for a very reasonable price. The food is always really delicious and the people working always friendly. The only downside is that the menu is set for each weekday so if you come back in the same day if the week you’ll have the same food.

This place is always here for me and my friends. Vegan or not you will be well fed with free refills! Ye food is delicious and super filling. Soooome of the foods aren’t vegan but most of the time as long as you say your vegan then they’ll take care of you. I also love that it’s just on Swanston Street, it’s so easy to get to
