Best Italian in Melbourne

I came here for the first time some months ago for a birthday lunch and ordered their signature truffle arancine, truffle pappardelle, and hot chocolate. Both dishes were absolutely divine- the arancini were crispy and had a very flavourful truffle mousse piped on top, and the pappardelle was perfectly cooked and silky in the heavenly truffle cream sauce. The hot chocolate was gourmand and rich with its dense whipped cream. For my second visit a few weeks ago I decided to order something different outside of their signatures- the polpette meatballs, spaghetti carbonara, and tiramisu. These were good, but not as good as their truffle dishes. The meatballs were tasty and meaty but I felt the sauce was a bit basic. The carbonara took forever to come out and it was undercooked and very salty. The tiramisu though was on-point and worth it for the price.
Overall, the staff were attentive, the atmosphere was sophisticated and great for people-watching outside, and it’s worth asking for recommendations to get the best dish. P.s. Don’t bother ordering olives to share- the serving is ridiculously small and you’ll only get 1 or 2 in a table of 6.

worst restaurant food i’ve ever eaten

went with a friend and ordered seven things off the menu

the bruschetta was just regular sliced brown bread with pasta sauce on top (like wtf?)

and every other meal was equally as bad. a combination of something with the same pasta sauce on top

I had the same experience. No photos either unfortunately, but we ordered some sort of dip appetiser advertised with sautéed spinach and pita - they literally served us some heated up Mission spinach wraps from Woolies with sauce on top. They actually used the crappy $5 supermarket wraps and sold it to us for like $17.

Amazing birthday dinner

Had a great birthday dinner there with the calamari being the highlight, the taste and texture were exactly like the real thing. Some of the dishes could use a little less salt but great overall.

Mediocre

Unfortunately the taste of most dishes is quite bland and boring. I would love to give a fully vegan place a better review but I think there are better places to go. Gave this place two times a try but it was the same experience across all dishes.

Così Così

Conveniently located in the Melbourne CBD. I was expecting more of a homely, family-style restaurant feel, but it came across as a bit more touristy, spread across three floors.

The calamari was quite small for the price (around $18 from memory).

The lasagne could have done with more béchamel sauce, and I think the dish would have benefited from some salad or dressing on the plate as well. My husband, who isn’t vegan, thought my homemade lasagne was better. When I go out to eat, especially at those prices, I expect the food to outshine something I could make myself at home.

The carbonara was also fairly plain.

The tiramisu was nice to have as a vegan option, but at around $18 it felt overpriced.

I did enjoy the virgin mojito though.

Overall, it’s good to have as a vegan dining option in the CBD, but for me it lacked atmosphere and felt overpriced for what was served. There’s definitely room for improvement in my opinion.

Disappointing

For the price of a meal we didn’t get the quality expected. We purchased 6 things and only 3 were well done (eg salad was flavourless except for bitter wilted greens). Definitely wouldn’t go back.

Un-describable in words.

This is a must. What made it even better was a comment from someone I had dinner with who is Italian — they said the calamari was exactly how their Nonna used to cook it.
This place really needs to be experienced. I don’t think I have the right words to describe just how good it is — it’s something you have to try for yourself

We live in Melbourne and go here regularly. The food is always delicious! It’s an Italian restaurant thats totally vegan and totally amazing. The lasagna, meatballs and signature dish fungi e Tartofu are our favourites. Friendly staff and great atmosphere.

*Wow!*

What an incredible restaurant! This place is taking vegan meats to the next level! The calimari starter was ground breaking. They obviously get asked a lot how they make their food as they have a set response ‘all our food is made with love and dedication’. Everything about this restaurant is summed up by the title of this review, Wow!

Amazing set menu

The chefs selection menu was delicious and the service was awesome. 11 dishes, all fantastic. We didn't love the sword fish but only because we never loved fish even before going vegan, and it tastes so much like fish. They even came and offered another main lol. Calamari and gnocchi were standouts.
Cocktails were also a highlight. Sorry for the half eaten food in the photos, kept forgetting.

Pros: Ambiance, Service, Cocktails

All Vegan Italian Restaurant.

Große Auswahl an Gerichten (die Vorspeise die wir wollten war allerdings aus). Nicht gerade günstig. Hat alles geschmeckt. Mir persönlich hat Salz gefehlt.

Like Nonna's

But seriously, when I ordered calmari friti i thought of norna and then instantly thought how foolish that was. I sweater, God This is the best traditional Italian food and it's vegan. I was so happy and satisfied.I was like I was E in the mid 90's

I think that two of us spent over $300 but it was worth it

Comfort food rather than fine dining

Good food, very hearty. We went for a wedding anniversary but it was more of a comfort food style than fine dining. Can't fault it, just be prepared and don't expect amazing cuisine.

Pros: All vegan, Drinks list, Service

Cons: Too hearty and filling

Delicious Italian

All vegan menu-lots to choose from. Great entrees, starters, desserts. Something for everyone. Hubby ordered a risotto, I ordered pappardelle with mushrooms in a creamy sauce. Italian rice balls and bruschetta as starters. Friendly and prompt service. Really wish we would have had room for dessert-I saw a gelato, cheesecake, and tiramisu to name a few. Would definitely recommend. Indoor and outdoor seating in a bustling area. Get a reservation!

Special treat!

My partner took me here for my birthday and it was a lovely treat! We got a bunch of different sized dishes: olives, calamari, meatballs, pappardelle, gnocchi, meatloaf and chocolate cake because we can absolutely put it away and have heard others say serving sizes aren't large. We got through it all and were both stuffed. Honestly the serving sizes were just fine and we would have been fine with less but absolutely no regrets because everything was wonderful! Service was friendly and the venue itself is cosy and a vibe. Could be improved by a greater range of mocktails and other non-alcoholic drinks, but that's not really what we were there for so it's not a big issue. Get on it!

Expensive, small portions.

For a 20yr anniversary, despite booking, we got placed outside.
Small portions, expensive. Nothing to write home about. Was still hungry afterwards.

My wife (who isn't vegan) also agreed.

$21 for 8 pieces of "calamari"

Pros: vegan

Cons: price, serving size, sitting outside

Authentic Italian

Delicious and authentic Italian food with wonderful hosts. I had an amazing aubergine Sicilian pasta, and my husband had the gnocchi. The balance of bitterness and sweetness was perfect, especially paired with a tasty Pinot Gris. I went into a food coma and couldn’t try the tiramisu, but I’m already hoping to go back tomorrow!

Pros: 100% vegan, Delicious, Authentic

Amazing!

I had the Calamari, and the meatloaf - both were amazing. Highly recommend. If you ever get the chance to go to a high end vegan restaurant - this is it.
