German

Name in German is Hündeleskopfhütte. The first lodge in the area that offers only vegan and vegetarian food. From the parking lot in the town, it's a 45-60 minute walk to the restaurant. To be sure you get vegan food, call before going. (There is always a vegan brotzeit.) Open Wed-Thu 11:00-21:00, Fri-Sun 11:00-18:00.

Lecker und Nett

The vegan Lasagne was pretty good and even our 9 year old liked it a lot.
Owner was friendly and attentive as well.

The hike is not spectacular but at least the kids liked the cows

Pros: very tasty

Cons: not cheap

Good concept, BUT...

Hündeleskopfhütte is the first vegetarian Hütte in the alps. What a great success.
It is located up in the mountains and from its terrace you have an outstanding view.
To get there you just have to go on a quite steep and beautiful 1-hour-hike from the town of Kappeln. The hike can be managed with a stroller.

There are many meatless dishes on the menue. Originally we aimed to eat some vegan Käsespätzle but when we called in advance the very nice innkeeper told us that she was out of vegan cheese and wasn't able to serve the meal for several days.

When we arrived at the cabin we unfortunately were told that there was also no more vegan lasagne left that day (Saturday at around 1pm) and also the vegan Brotzeit wasn't available.

So checking the menue in advance didn't really help and we had to be flexible on the spot.
What a pity. I really had loved to try the Käsespätzle or the lasagne.

Another downer was the esoteric touch that welcomed us.
A leaflet with some quackery nonsense tried to "inform" people about the "dangerous" FFP2 masks.
Regulations against the spread of the Corona virus weren't taken very seriously either. Guests weren't required to wear masks. On another leaflet it read “you can wear a mask if it makes you feel safer".
Furthermore there were also some books covering dubious approaches of therapy amongst the gimmiks they sell at the cabin.

The service was very kind and welcoming and also the food was good.

We came with high expectations but unfortunately they weren't met.

Why would you upload animal cruelty to a vegan app?

Thanks for the heads-up about them being conspiracy theorists though!

Vegan with a view

Friendly stuff, tasty food (I had the vegan „Käsespätzle“ (you have to preorder it), Zucchini-Lasagne and chocolate mousse...) and a lovely mountain view. My family had the vegetarian „Käsespätzle“ and really liked it. The side salad is stunning good. Perfect!

Sehr schöner Ausblick, freundliches Personal, angemessene Bierauswahl.

After hiking up to Hündeleskopfhütte through the poring rain, we were happy to come into a warm place with friendly, welcoming staff.
It’s very rustic and cosy inside.
I did call ahead to be sure to get the vegan „Kasspatzn“. They came with a fresh, mixed side salad and were filling and satisfying.
My husband enjoyed the same dish, but the original version - which is vegetarian (with strong cheese).
Beside I had a hot oat chocolate.
I can recommend this cute place, especially after a long hike / walk.
It took us around 20-30 minutes to walk up the hill.

Pros: vegan options , friendly staff

Cons: some vegan options not always available

Wie immer sehr lecker

Heute gab es leider keine Zucchini Lasagne. Dafür habe ich leckern veganen Kaiserschmarren gegessen. Sehr lecker!

Fitness (and) Food

You can reach the restaurant after a quite beautiful and rewarding hike. The view is magnificent and the location is a prefect spot to chill. You will feel vey welcome, don't be afraid to speak English.
My wife and I ordered the zucchini lasagne and the lentil soup and while both were very delicious the lasagne took it a couple of steps further.
I can't wait to see the place again in the winter time.

Pros: Reasonably priced, Great atmosphere, DELICIOUS

Cons: Not a lot of vegan options, Limited parking LoL

Tasty veg food with an amazing view!

After hearing of a vegetarian mountain restaurant we had to go and try it out and were NOT disappointed. While more dishes are vegetarian than vegan it was still a pretty good vegan selection available. We were up there at opening time and it already got quite busy then, so if you plan to go it may be worth calling ahead especially if you want the traditional bavarian dish "Kässpatzen'" (german version of Mac & Cheese - just much much better) which are now also offered in a vegan version. Will definitely go back again. The 45 minute hike up to the restaurant will get you working up an appetite and ensure that you are able to enjoy a main and a delicious vegan cake for dessert afterwards! Highly recommended

Pros: Beautiful location, Tasty food

Cons: Can be busy/crowded
