Serves meat, vegan options available. Self-described as "Asian food with a Mexican twist.” Has sautéed tofu and sweet & spicy jackfruit in place of meat for tacos, burritos, rice bowls, and bahn mi. A house-made aioli is vegan. Boba tea can be with non-dairy milk. Relocated from 2301 Cherokee St. Open Mon-Thu 11:30am-7:30pm, Fri-Sat 11:30am-8:00pm.

Underwhelming - Edit
I really wanted to like this place, because the idea of Asian and Mexican fusion is something of my dreams. I don't know if this was just a bad day for them or what, but my and my partner's food was very underwhelming, to the point of being nearly inedible. My partner ordered 2 tacos: 1. Tofu, 2. Jackfruit. Both of them were supposed to come with an Asian slaw, but when they came out it was just tortillas with very lukewarm, liquid-y fillings, some wilted lettuce, and smothered in an aioli sauce. They were soggy and the flavor was not good, for some reason the tacos tasted sweet? It was not appetizing, in texture or flavor. I however was able to eat my meal. I ordered the rice bowl with tofu. It was nothing special. I hate to say it but the best thing on the table were the chips and salsa. We both were disappointed and left hungry. I hate to leave a bad review on a restaurant that is clearly trying to provide vegan options in a location that had next to nothing, but I couldn't recommend this place in good faith.

Definitely the “go to” place for vegans - Edit
I had the jackfruit and sweet potato tacos. It was plentiful, saucy and delicious. Hit all the right notes for spicy without going over the top. The owner Sue was very personable and really cares about your eating experience. They actually change gloves between the vegan and non-vegan food! They also are able to provide gluten free. When going to the Foundry and trying to hunt down delicious vegan food, you can’t go wrong at Kalbi Taco Shack. #Veganuary
Pros: Hits all the right notes for spicy, Totally delicious!, Enjoyed mango drink

Pleasant Treat - Edit
A pleasant treat with so many vegan options. The rest of the vendors at the city foundry could take some pointers!

Delicious Jackfruit Tacos - Edit
I found myself hungry at the City Foundry. After walking the entire food court and getting ready to give up, I discovered The Kalbi Taco Shack.
Read moreI wasn’t expecting much and was happily surprised. I ordered jackfruit taco and a tofu one along with the chips and salsa. The jackfruit soaked up the flavor and was my favorite. The tofu was good but, I expect to order only the jackfruit on future visits. I should note that the salsa is ridiculous. I wish they sold jars of it so that I could take it home!
Pros: Jackfruit , Homemade salsa, Vegan aioli
Cons: Location

Excellent food and the nicest owner - Edit
Kalbi is a hidden gem, delicious and affordable. Options are vegan tacos with tofu or jackfruit and vegan aioli or bahn mi sandwiches with tofu/jackfruit and vegan aioli. We tried them all and loved everything. We have also gotten catering and the owner is so kind and eager to accommodate vegan requests. We had a vegan taco bar catered for a work event and all of my non-vegan coworkers loved it. Highly recommend this place!

Best banh mi ever - Edit
Best tofu banh mi I’ve ever had! The tofu was seasoned perfectly, the bread was just the right level of chewiness, and the veggies were crisp. The service was great, too.

Very Tasty, Accommodating Staff - Edit
Great food, especially the banh mi's. Tofu or jackfruit are available as options for the banh mi sandwiches, tacos, burritos, or rice bowls. Vegan aoli available upon request. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The first time I went I was not overly impressed with the rice bowl, but really like the tofu banh mi. I also tried a jackfruit taco that was also quite good.

Tasty “fast” food! - Edit
Sweet little Asian taco shack on “antique row” Cherokee St. We tried the bahn mi with tofu, a jackfruit Taco, and a tofu taco. Everything was tasty, but we liked the tacos the best (there’s better bahn mi in town). Friendly and fast service, and they definitely understand when you say “everything vegan.” We’ll be back!
