One of the most unfriendly "vegan" meals ever served - Edit
La Fonda is one of the oldest and best hotels in Santa Fe right on the plaza ... great architecture and charm ... plus many vegetarian items marked on the menu. However, Santa Fe is a world destination and their lack of vegan options feels rudely intentional. We went there to have breakfast with some family that was staying there. Ordered 2 of the cold pressed juices, toast, vegan sausages and the tofu scramble. The juice was good and the sausages were fine ... probably morningstar farms (hopefully vegan) but the scramble was literally about 1/3 of a container of tofu chopped up and very briefly placed on the grill ... and absolutly nothing else ... no salt no pepper no sauce no seasoning nada. We live here and felt so insulted I doubt we'll ever return or recommend the hotel/restaurant to anyone. Having a few vegan meals on the menu is easy and profitable ... this felt like it took a lot of effort to come up with this level of rudeness.

Cons: tofu scamble is basically raw tofu, few if any vegan options

Amazing Breakfast options and one Dinner option - Edit
For Breakfast- get the Huevos Oaxacas and sub eggs with tofu scramble. No cheese. Add a side of vegan sausage. This was an excellent breakfast. Comes with beans, hashbrowns, Raja’s, and so good.
Read moreFor Dinner get Huit Lacoche Tamal. It is vegan. Get some red salsa to top it and Very good.

1-2 options - Edit
We had the roasted corn taco and tamale. It was marked vegetarian but was vegan. There was also a vegetable pasta that likely could have worked.

Nice atmosphere, but very slim pickings for plant-based /vegan folks. - Edit
Waiter was very friendly; he spoke to kitchen staff (chef not there) to see if they could prepare veg option. Could only do a veggie taco (2) with sauces and small amount of black beans on side. Black beans veg but pinto beans with lard. 😰
Read moreTaco was fairly good, but flour taco fell apart from veg moisture.
As of today’s experience, I would not recommend eating there. Menu is essentially meat, cheese, butter, cream, and cheese....seriously. I do think it is good to request vegan options so they know people want that.
Pros: Very nice setting in historic hotel near plaza , Chips & salsa, Veggie Tacos without cheese
Cons: Need reservation , Long wait time, Not veg friendly

Great if with non veg friends - Edit
2 options that can be made vegan. I had them make the veggie tacos vegan and they were delicious and full of flavor, so a great location if you are with non veg friends or family. I will say, I’m not entirely sure how this location got on happy cow since they don’t have any actual vegan options and they don’t indicate any vegan options, you have to ask.

Cons: Nothing is vegan - you have to ask, Expensive for what you’re getting

Good Atmosphere - Edit
Neat little atmosphere. They got us in right away, but they had zero vegan options on the menu. Only vegetarian. You could make the tacos vegan, but that’s about it. I ended up not ordering food, so I can’t tell how the food was. But they do know what vegans are, just not many vegan varieties.

Lies - Edit
I am currently staying at this hotel and tried to eat at their restaurant. Ended up with a tortilla with black beans and guacamole on the side. The waitress had no idea what vegan options were and it was embarrassing for me having to explain in front of everyone. Definitely not a restaurant I would describe as having vegan options.

Surprisingly Delicious Vegan and Vegetarian Options - Edit
This was our first trip to Santa Fe and this restaurant is in a beautiful hotel on the main plaza. We were skeptical that the portions would be big enough and worth the price. We were pleasantly surprised.
Read moreMy daughter (vegetarian) ordered the cashew loaf meal. It does have butter in it so is not suitable for a vegan. The loaf itself was very flavorful and full of veggies. The plate included a variety of other items that didn't really match in any way but nonetheless, were delicious. It included quinoa, broccoli, cauliflower, snap peas, avocado and potato salad.
I (vegan) ordered the stuffed poblano pepper. You have to ask them to make this vegan. The pepper was stuffed with roasted vegetables--eggplant, mushrooms, corn, zucchini and leeks. It comes with a little blue polenta and also has a red pepper sauce and the entire meal is drizzled with balsamic. Delicious.
Great service, nice ambience. Make a reservation to ensure a set inside the beautiful atrium.
Pros: Service, Ambiance, Flavor
Cons: Busy location

Worth it! - Edit
Found ourselves in Santa Fe for a quick business trip and found this gem. This restaurant has added a few more vegan/ veggie options to their menu than previously listed. Grilled Cauliflower Steak, Stacked Polenta with a black bean corn salsa served over steamed spinach and Veggie tacos. We started the meal with their guacamole . It was delicious and it is made right at your table so you can specify exactly what you want in it. Meals were beautifully served and the atmosphere was very pleasing. The restaurant is located inside the The La Fonda Hotel in the Plaza. Beautiful location!
