Pasta Basta

We arrived to try the vegan options, there were 3 options for pasta (one was not available) and in terms of sauces there was a really limited selection. You can choose between a completely basic tomato sauce and a "pashush" sauce, which is actually a parsley sauce and a very bland oil. I asked to add tomato sauce to my pasta because the pashush sauce was tasteless. It took a long time for the dish to come out because the employees got confused and put my dish in another bag and in addition they also made a mistake in the toppings (which are quite expensive on themselves) although I ordered 2, with mushrooms and eggplant I only got mushrooms ..
The service itself was nice but the dishes themselves did not justify the price , There are not enough vegan options and the taste is not particularly impressive.

Quick, Cheap, and Delicious in the Shuk

There's beauty in simplicity and Pasta Basta exemplifies this, offering up fresh pastas and sauces at cheap prices, in the middle of the bustling shuk... what more could you ask for?

The Pasta's are either Fettucine, Spirals, whole wheat, or gnocchi and are all made fresh on the premises. All pastas are between 19 to 26 shekels, depending on the sauce. My top recommendation would be the red Pesto, which has some punch to it, but all of the Sauces are pretty solid. The pink beet sauce is really delicious and unique. While the Coconut curry adds versatility, and isn't bad, the flavor is a little lacking for me.

When you are there, you'll notice little red plastic jars. They are filled with Parmesan cheese, which you can use to your hearts content. The restaurant is towards the bottom of the shuk (near Aggripas) and is between the open and covered markets. There can be a line sometimes of between 2 to 5 minutes but it is worth the wait and the food is always ready within 5 minutes of ordering. My only issue here is serving size, which I feel is just a little too small, because of this, if I go as a couple I'll generally order 3 pastas for the 2 of us.

Like the previous reviewer, I would also recommend highly the Etrog Man's Juice store. If you decide to drink something stronger, Pasta Basta also serves a home made wine for 10 shekels a glass. After a hectic day of shuk shopping, I honestly cant think of a better place to stop for a bite and a glass of wine than Pasta Basta.

Pros: Simple and Delicious, Quick and Cheap, Central Shuk Location

Cons: Smallish Portions, Aren't always enough seats

Reliably Tasty

The pasta is home made. The sauces seem to be made from fresh ingredients. The portions are very generous and reliably tasty. The premises are clean. The staff is always pleasant. The clientele is eclectic. The location and seating makes it a perfect place for people watching. Pasta dishes start at 19NIS, soups and salads are both 15NIS. Major bargains for the quality and fo Jerusalem prices.

It is walking distance from the center of town and on all major public transportation routes.

There is always the major bonus of it being in the heart of Machane Yehuda - the open air market. Its also directly across from the "Juice Guy"

This is one of our favorite go-to places.

Pros: good food, great prices, everything cooked to order
