Transcendant - Edit
This is an elegant restaurant with food that makes you happy that you eat vegan. I shared three dishes and a dessert--a squash dish, Caesar salad, vegan shawarma, and halva. Each was creative and exquisitely delicious. This is a must-visit place for those who love top-notch vegan food.

Everything was PHENOMENAL. We got the cauliflower, the shawarma, the tagliatelle, the halva ice cream, and their special dessert of the day, pumpkin pie.

Beautiful upscale wine bar in the heart of the west village. Our favorite is the celeriac shawarma. We also loved the mushrooms. We sat outside with our dogs.

Divine vegan upscale dining! - Edit
This is a MUST go restaurant and makes for a great place for special occasions!
Read moreIt’s pricy but the quality of the food is worth it! My partner and I went here for our anniversary and we had a delightful and peaceful dinner. The ambience and decor is nice and feels like upscale vegan dining.
It’s tapas-based Israeli/Mediterranean cuisine. The servers recommend splitting 3-4 dishes for 2 people. We ordered 3 and it was a good amount of food.
We ordered the following (listed in order of preference):
- Shawarma: AMAZING hummus! Perhaps the best hummus we’ve ever had. It comes with delicious bread (which I’m still dreaming of now) and vegan shawarma on a stick, which was flavorful and not too “fake meat”-y
- Tagliatelle: It was simple and muted in flavor but still very pleasant. It was especially appreciated as a palette cleanser following the Shawarma (and especially the Mushroom dish).
- Mushrooms: The initial bites were great but then the richness of the green sauce began to sink in. This was the only dish we had trouble finishing (and not necessarily because of portion size). It was good but not great. Wished we tried a different 3rd dish.
We highly recommend this restaurant and we hope to go back again to celebrate another special occasion in the future!
UPDATE (7/26/25):
We went back for a birthday celebration and it was consistently excellent food! Made sure to make a reservation in advance to secure a table for 4 people (non-high top or bar seating). We got our all-time favorite dish (Shawarma) as well as the tagliatelle— both of which were amazing, just like we remembered from our first visit.
We tried two new dishes:
- Risotto: FANTASTIC! This is now my new favorite dish at SHOSH. Perfectly creamy and flavorful. Vibrant taste and aesthetically pleasing spring colors. Good portion size.
- Eggplant: Pretty good. Enjoyed the first few bites but paled in comparison to the risotto dish. Slightly lackluster.

every single dish perfect - Edit
went here with my non-vegan family, who are generally very skeptical of anything vegan. even they had to admit this place was absolutely incredible. there were six of us, and we ordered nine dishes, all to share. every single one was divine. not one miss. pricey place but so so good.

Top-flight vegan dining nook - Edit
Dining experience quality comes down to three essential aspects: service, food quality and prep, and ambiance. Shosh, a tiny hideaway on Greenwich Ave, has all three well-covered.
Read moreWhile the space is somewhat narrow, they did a great job mixing shared dining areas with individual tables. The waitstaff were knowledgeable about all items on the extensive tapas-like list, which is arranged in order of “dish heft”, and their dish count and recommendations were spot on.
As it is made to order, the food took a little bit of extra time to arrive, and the plating was extremely artful; perhaps maybe even a bit too much on the shwarma, making serving it a tad challenging. Mushroom, Cauliflower, Shwarma, and Risotto - served in order that they appear on menu and each dish tastier than the next. The chocolate mousse dessert was equally amazing, deceptively well-balanced on taste and sweetness.
If you are looking for an up-scale quality vegan experience in west village, head over to Shosh…
Pros: Service, Food quality and prep , Ambiance
Cons: Some dishes a bit “fussy” to share.

Impressive - Edit
I came here with a couple Omni friends and it was a huge hit! We got the eggplant, carrot, cauliflower, shwarma and kebab and it was more than we could eat. Everything was delicious, but the carrot and shwarma were my faves. I would definitely come back to try more.

New Favorite Restaurant in NYC - Edit
I tried this restaurant on a whim after seeing it listed as new here on HappyCow a few months back - so happy that I did! By far the best restaurant I have been to in a long time. Every single dish was delicious, as were the wines on offer. We sat at the back bar top facing the kitchen and had the opportunity to interact with the Chef and learn more about some of the dishes that he was preparing. A truly fantastic experience full of great service and outstanding flavors. Will be returning soon.

Amazing relaxed meal - Edit
This place is incredible. We entered to old jazz standards on the sound system, took a seat at the bar and we were greeted by our host and then by our bartender. They recommended their favourites, chatted with us in an unhurried manner and quickly became dinner friends rather than servers.

10/10 amazing! - Edit
The ambience is adorable, and very sophisticated. There is 0 “vibe” of being vegan. The food was FANTASTIC! Got the gem salad, spanakopita, truffle tagliatelle pasta and the shwarma. The wine was delicious and it was seriously amazing! Can’t wait to go back to try the puttanesca.

Innovative, Stylish, but Pricey - Edit
I love the vibe in this restaurant, with amazing indoor lighting, option to eat out, and amazing staff. The focaccia bread and hummus was simply out of this world and my partner and I agreed this order would be sufficient to get anyone full. Everything else was amazing too, however, I was disappointed by the portion sizes of some of the main course when the price was quite high.
