Out of several menu items - Edit
We recently visited Soul Vegetarian for an early dinner after missing lunch. We were hungry and prepared to order a lot off the menu, but several of the items we tried to order were not available that day (I got the feeling this is the norm). Ironically, they didn't have the soup of the day, and no other soups on the menu were available. My partner ended up ordering the signature homemade "Garvey Burger" (a seitan patty), which he said was fairly good. I ordered the tofu sticks with tartar sauce, which are kind of like fish sticks. The breading on the tofu sticks was crunchy and well-seasoned, but the tofu itself lacked seasoning so just tasted like plain tofu (not my preference, but my partner really like these). We also ordered a side of collards and cornbread. The collards were pretty good - very tender and flavorful, but the cornbread was VERY dry. I doubt it had been made freshly that day or even the day before. Lastly, we requested tap water which was served in very small Styrofoam cups. Mine had sugar on the rim for some reason (rogue crystals - not like it had been done purposefully), which was just odd. In terms of atmosphere, this is a fairly typical quirky vegan spot with low-end finishes, mis-matched furniture, and a bathroom door that gets stuck. I wish we could recommend this place, but we won't be going back.
Read morePros: Some good flavors and textures, Large menu, Nice owner
Cons: Menu items unavailable, Atmosphere is lacking, Very dry cornbread

Best vegan soul food in Atlanta - Edit
TLDR: The food is great. Everything else not so much.
Read moreSoul Veg is an Atlanta classic. I always get their BBQ kalebone, collard greens, and mac and cheese with their dinner special. The special is expensive ($20), and I wish they included some vegan butter with the cornbread. This is definitely a takeout kinda place. For the longest time, they had booths that were old and ripped. They did get new tables and chairs, but it's not very inviting. Looks more like a fast casual vibe than a sit-down restaurant. One time I went to a Valentine's Day paint-and-sip event here, and it was so poorly organized. The image we were painting was the continent of Africa in a heart. I wouldn't even want the US in a heart. 🙃 The paint they gave us was so poor quality that, even with several coats, the black looked grey. No guidance was provided after we got our supplies. Dinner was provided, but it was a buffet-type situation, and I didn't see any of their usual options. Also, they gave us non-vegan chocolates at the event!! My friend and I decided to cut our losses and leave early.
Pros: Delicious food, Everything is vegan , Fast service
Cons: The inside of the restaurant is eh, Events are not good, Expensive

Accommodating and delicious food - Edit
Had reservations for about 20 people and they were so accommodating. I had the lasagna entree with greens and yams. All delicious. Casual atmosphere. Parking a bit tricky. A restaurant to visit again when in Atlanta.

Amazing collard greens and tofu - Edit
Mega tasty tofu - nice and crispy with very tasty sauce. Collard greens were super flavorful, no idea how they made them so delicious. Vegan Mac and cheese can sometimes feel very heavy - but not this one!

Great food and wonderful folks - Edit
They were warm and welcoming - if quiet at first. One of the customers that just got his food offered me a piece of the Kale Ribs that I was about to order. How kind! My friend who isn’t vegan didn’t see anything she wanted to eat and wasn’t hungry, but the sweet potato pie had caught her eye. The lady noticed and offered it to her for us to try for free since it was our first time! I’ve never actually had sweet potato pie since I’m not from the south, but I have always wanted to try it. It was delicious!
Read moreFor my entree I got kale ribs (made from wheat, reminded me of steak fingers before I was vegan) with Mac n’ cheese. Dear lord that mac n’ cheese was so good! I forgot what I was missing but it came back to me. A lot like the stuff at the bbq in my hometown - which I have had in 8 years - but less greasy and vegan 🤩 So good!
I definitely had leftovers for a second meal and I paid about $20 with a 20% tip. Seems very reasonable to me! My only complaint is that it wasn’t as clean as I’d like there - the table and floor was as little sticky. I have the impress the kitchen is very clean so I wasn’t worried. Great music playing! If I lived here I’d be back.
Pros: All vegan menu, Seems to be great soul food (I have limited exp), Friendly staff

Yeah, not it at all - Edit
On the road, I picked this place thinking vegan soul food! I was wrong. First, I felt unwelcome. Second, the menu is online and hard to read on a phone, you'd think it'd be better formatted for online reading. Looking at the menu best I could, none of it really sounded like soul food so I ordered the veggie burger. 22 long minutes later, I was handed a burger wrapped in foil with 2 napkins. Now I was asked if I wanted to eat in or take to go, I asked for a table. Maybe I was in fact unwelcome. The veggie burger is a sorry excuse for a $15 burger. Check out the pics, they speak for themselves. I would say this is one of my worst restaurant experience.

Glad we tried it. - Edit
We were visiting a relative in the Atlanta area. We needed to go a bit out of the way to try Soul Vegetarian. Based on previous reviews it seemed a necessary side trip. We went there for lunch.
Read moreWe had the BBQ Tofu, Mac & Cheese and Corn Bread (a bit carb heavy, I know) and the Kalebone Sandwich. Only criticism I would make is the BBQ sauce was a little sweeter and less spicy than I would have preferred. The Mac and Cheese was excellent, when I first went to try the cornbread it felt a bit crumbly, but when I tasted it it was moist, not dry at all and very good. The Kalebone Sandwich was excellent. Overall a very good experience, I'm glad we went.
Pros: Service was pleasant and quick., Food was overall very good/excellent
Cons: Parking can be a little bit of a challenge.

Amazing Vegan Soul Food - Edit
We are visiting Atlanta and I found the restaurant here on happy cow but then we also had a friend who lives here recommend soul vegetarian. It’s actually 100% vegan and maybe the best restaurant vegan food I’ve ever had. It’s at least in the top three! when we walked in a man that works there, maybe owns it, said the best vegan food in all of Atlanta. We didn’t try all of it, but I feel like I can say that I can’t imagine anybody makes it any better!

Super good - Edit
Ordered delivery through GrubHub so my food wasn’t very hot, but man, did it taste good. I can only imagine how much better it would have been if it was hot. Probably some of the best vegan Mac and cheese I’ve had. The collards and sweet potatoes didn’t have as much seasoning as I would have imagined, but they still were good. My recommendation would be to eat it all as hot and fresh as you can. But you won’t be disappointed if you don’t.

The steak was DELICIOUS - Edit
Holy hell, the seitan steak was one of if not the most delicious piece of fake meat I've ever had since going vegan. If you go here, GET THE STEAK you will not regret it. Also, only 4 stars because the mac and cheese tasted and smelled gross.

Good Food - Edit
Had to swing by and grab my daughter something to eat. They never disappoint. Although, I will say the mac and “cheese” at their West End location tastes better (not sure why). If you go to that location be prepared to wait in a long line for it most times (it’s well worth it 😋 and they move pretty quickly regardless). Got tofu cutlets this time. My daughter said they were pretty good.

Soul food staple - Edit
One of my favorite vegan places! I get the BBQ cauliflower and it’s always delicious. Great mac n cheese as well. It’s not fancy and “polished” like a lot of other vegan restaurants, but that doesn’t change the quality of the food at all :)
