Best meal of our trip!

Best meal of our trip, right next to Nishiki Market. Highly recommend for your trip to Kyoto. Okonomiyaki/Teppanyaki restaurant Kamehameha. So quaint but with a casual vibe atmosphere yet very Japanese feeling too. Serves meat, vegetarian, and vegan options. My vegetarian daughter said that after 3 years living in Japan she finally felt like she was eating an authentic Japanese meal in a real Japanese restaurant. I’d agree. It was pretty darn perfect.

A restaurant that everyone in your party can enjoy together. Full English menu is on the website. We both ordered SET C. No okonomiyaki option on that set because we had wanted to try more variety of foods since everything sounded so good. Each set came with a free appetizer of the chefs choosing. We’d already said my daughter was a vegetarian and I didn’t eat seafood and they happily accommodated to make sure we didn’t get anything we wouldn’t eat.

First appetizer we got was soft tofu with soy sauce and green onions. Not normally a fan of tofu but we both thought it was good. Adding the ground ginger paste he put on the edge of the plate really made it for us.

Other appetizer was the best edamame we’ve ever had. Garlic, sliced dried chilies 🌶 and the perfect amount of seasonings. My daughter wants to trek back there to get an order or two to eat on the Shinkansen ride home.

My SET - I had the skirt steak. 😱 SOOOOO delicious. Melts in your mouth. Fried rice with green onions (had meat in it but could’ve been vegetarian if wanted) and the fried soba (yakisoba) also with meat. I was so full from the other food and sampling my daughter’s food that I could only eat about half of the noodles but wish I could’ve finished them.

My daughter’s SET was made all vegetarian for her - rice cake dumplings, garlic pizza (🤤) and vegetarian fried soba. She ate everything of hers.

They’re closed on Thursdays. Spoke English. Only 6 seats at the teppanyaki grill and 1 table. Eating at the grill to watch him cook was great. We got there just after 6. First ones in for dinner. 2 guys came in shortly there after and later a couple who sat at the table and not between us and the other guys for social distancing. Recommend either getting there early or call and make a reservation (they speak English) for seats at the grill.

Definitely check it out.

Pros: Vegan options, Vegetarian options , Meat options

Cons: None. It was fantastic!

Could not find it

Walked around for half an hour trying to find it in the shopping mall. Tried Google maps, Apple Maps and asking for directions. Never found it.
