A peculiar and persistent policy of enforced mask-wearing, despite the government edicts around this having been dropped.

I write this review in late May 2022 where I (as a long-time Christchurch resident and customer of Liberty Market) returned and visited Liberty after having lived out of town for the past twelve months.

As a mask exemption holder I visited on a Monday morning and found that I was unable to purchase my groceries, and instead offered the ostensibly laborious alternative of leaving, going online, and making a specific booking time to go in and do my shopping with them.

Simply showing them my mask exemption to the staff in the here and now would not suffice, and I was promptly and unceremoniously refused service.

As a result of this poor experience I took my business to Wholefoods Market and Health Store at 52 Riccarton Road, where i will continue to shop as the produce is consistently fresher on a day to day basis anyway, and they actually seem to want my business.

My mother's business will be diverted here also following this experience, a spend which equates to $2-300 on a monthly basis.

*Feedback to the owners:

As a business operating in the fast moving consumer goods industry, my experience in your store today is simply not good enough, and I can see business materially suffering as a result of this regressive policy.

The crux of the matter from a commercial standpoint is that I am not making an appointment for a big ticket item such as a house viewing when I am going out to purchase food staples (I have a need for sustenance in the here and now) and so as a consumer, I am unwilling to invest time in "proving myself" in order to buy my groceries. I will simply take my hard-earned cash elsewhere.

Get with the program, Liberty Market.
