Read moreThe good reviews on happycow drew my attention to AMARA, so I ordered from there.
Unfortunately, I only found it ok.
I was disappointed by the vegan kebab meat. It was just boiled and seared soy meat (textured soy). Not my cup of tea. I didn't like the lahmacun as well. Börek and vegan pide, on the other hand, were good!
But as we all know, taste is individual.
It's great that AMARA has a large selection of vegan dishes.

Die guten Reviews bei happycow haben mich aufmerksam auf AMARA gemacht, sodass ich dort bestellt habe.
Leider fand ich es nur ok.
Enttäuscht war ich vom veganen Dönerfleisch. Das war einfach nur gekochtes und angebratenes Sojafleisch (Texturiertes Soja). Nicht mein Ding.
Lahmacun hat mir auch nicht geschmeckt.
Börek und Vegan Pide hingegen fand ich gut!
Geschmack ist aber ja bekanntlich individuell.
Super, dass es bei AMARA eine große Auswahl an veganen Speisen gibt.

Nice vegan kebap option like lahmacun, börek and döner. 3 vegan sauce options. Also, they‘ve got red cabbage in their kebap which immediately gets bonus points from me. It‘s also really well situated in the city, easy to reach and the guys are friendly.

Amara is the go-to vegan fast food place in Freiburg. You can have pizza, kebap or a mixed plate. The food is alright, but the mock meat and cheese could have been picked better. On the upside, the food is affordable and prepared really quickly!

Read moreWant something from a döner place and you're vegan? Choice made. Everything on the menu they make for meat-eaters they make vegan. Döner? Other wraps? Plates? Pizza? You're covered. And everything that's vegan on the menu is labelled so, and the staff know how to handle it.
Every student in Freiburg has a favourite döner place. Either it's Amara, or it's the closest one to their dorm.
It's a bit more expensive than a normal döner place. But honestly, it's worth it. This place has been reviewed in legit food magazines, it's just amazing.
The people behind the counter are great too. You can get by in German, and sometimes English.

best "Döner" in town - Edit
we had a vegan Seitan-Dürüm and a Halloumi-Dürüm - for the both of us the best "Döner" we had for a long time. Adding grilled vegetables to the roll makes it even better and also quite big - i can really eat a lot, but i was very full afterwards. The Dürüm bread for the rolls is freshly made directly in front of the customer. Even though many people were standing in the queue we didn't have to wait for long!

Wir hatten einen veganen Seitan-Dürüm und einen Halloumi-Dürüm und waren uns einige - bei uns beiden der beste "Döner" den wir seit langem gegessen hatten! Das "Upgrade" mit Grillgemüse lohnt sich - einfach köstlich! Das beste sind die frischen Dürüm-Fladen, die direkt vor Augen des Kunden zubereitet und direkt zur nächsten Rolle verarbeitet werden. Trotz langer Schlange mussten wir kaum warten - einfach top!
