Great concept, staff were terrible - Edit
I read other reviews and thought “couldn’t be that bad” but yes, they were. Definitely a shared kitchen with The Loft. The concept of this place is great, but some food lacked some oomph!

Staff ruined it for me - Edit
Apparently others have had better experiences, but mine was not good.
Read moreBartender, the only server during my visit, seemed to resent the interruption of having customers.
Walked down the block to the Dove & Deer for their Vegan Lo Mein and had a much more positive experience there.
Pros: Food is vegan.
Cons: Sports bar atmosphere, lots of TVs., Staff uninterested in customer service.

Perfect Date Night - Edit
I loved our late dinner at Bar Vegan! We got their around 8pm and the server kindly let us know that around 9 a dj would start playing and things would probably get loud but allowed us to sit anywhere we wanted until then. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting and the drinks were delicious but the food was the real star of the night. We ordered the bang bang cauliflower, sweet potato sushi roll and bruschetta. Highly recommend all 3! Some of the best sushi and cauliflower I've ever had!

OMG SO GOOOOD! - Edit
It was one of the best meals I've ever had. Especially recommend the bang bang cauliflower. It felt like a higher end NYC restaurant. The staff was great, too.

Poor service and incorrect hours - Edit
I was super stoked to see a vegan restaurant/bar open on a Thursday until midnight in Albany, especially since I was driving in late from the Philly area 3 hrs away.
Read moreWhen I arrived just before 10pm the place was empty. Just the bar tender and friend at the bar.
I asked to see a menu but the bar tender said the kitchen closes at 10pm. It was 9:58pm so I was out of luck.
There were some interesting cocktails on the menu and I asked to order one. The bar tender then said they are closing in 30 minutes. I wasn’t sure if that meant I should go elsewhere?
I can understand when your place is empty that you would want to close early but what I don’t understand is the lack of hospitality.
It’s so easy to update information about your establishment on Google, Happy Cow, Yelp etc.
Why disappoint your potential customers with incorrect hours?
Pros: Cocktail was made well, The bar decor had a nice vibe
Cons: Incorrect hours listed on multiple sites, Inattentive service, Lots of fruit flies

To-Go was GOOD! - Edit
We had such trouble finding soy free vegan options in Albany by way of a fresh meal, but they came through with an incredible stuffed avocado & zoodles salad (sans the dressing which had soy) that held up for a 4 hr drive & tasted GREAT after. The ambiance was cute so we will definitely return for a date night some day! Bonus: the bartender gave us an umbrella that was left bc it started pouring rain (ignore the part where it was broken & we laughed uncontrollably; it was the thought that counts!)
Read morePros: Fresh veggies & lots of options, Diverse drink menu, Vibey ambiance, date night worthy!
Cons: Limited knowledge of soy free , Pricey (but overall worth it!), Opens later in day, not for lunch

Cool atmosphere and delicious food - Edit
Bar Vegan is awesome. It's unlike any other vegan restaurant that I've been to, or know of, in the area; a blend of sophisticated and nightlife/bar vibes. I love the décor. The food is delicious, with some options that are quite spicy and others that are milder. It's a little spendy, and for most dishes the portion sizes are not that big for the price (some are more appetizer-sized, others can be a full meal for me if I'm not especially hungry), but I think that's typical of this type of restaurant (so it's not just because it's fully vegan).

Great vibe - Edit
This place has a great interior space and good food. I did think it was a bit pricey for the portions but not unreasonably so.

Everything was delicious - Edit
We stopped in while on a road trip, and were so pleasantly surprised! Every item was delicious, especially that Vodka sauce! Hard to choose what was better between the three we chose. The portions were also quite large for tapas. Highly recommend!
Read more4 stars because it is unclear whether they share a kitchen with restaurants that sell meat... if they at least put a notice or disclaimer, that would be great. I'm still happy to support vegan places because that's the only way we'll get more! ✨️

Tiny portions, High Prices, Decent Food (Shared Kitchen) - Edit
I do not recommend and I am disappointed. Firstly the portions are extremely tiny and I’m aware that it’s tapas but for $60 I did expect to receive more food. Second, this restaurant is owned and connected to 2 other restaurants and they all share the same kitchen and the other restaurants are not vegan so I was disappointed that it’s called Bar “Vegan” and shares a kitchen with meat.
Read moreThird, the food is tasty but it costs $14 for 4 potstickers and $14 for 6 chunks of tofu.
The overall experience was disappointing. I feel the restaurant is called Vegan not because they care about it being vegan but instead marketing it as a vegan place within the multiple restaurant hall. We had to leave and cook a dinner back home after spending a lot of money. Fancy place with high prices and decent food but it was completely empty and I now understand why.

Pros: Decent food
Cons: Smaller portions than usual tapas, Shares kitchen with meat when called “Bar Vegan”, Expensive
Bluntfang
While a block of tofu may cost $2, they probably have to charge $14 their dishes in order to pay the restaurant staff a living wage and make rent.

I disagree on portions; they are way bigger than regular tapas. You probably have never been to Spain. I was stuffed with 3 different dishes. And they were all delicious.

That’s fine, we can disagree, it is just my opinion. I had felt the portions were small for the price. I was just in Spain and still feel the same way.

Tasty, feels like a NYC-type vegan place - Edit
Good food, and super nice to have a vegan place like this around here, but not knock-your-socks-off. I think it’d be 5 stars if the food had that NYC vegan quality, or the plate sizes were a bit bigger, but it’s still a god spot I’ll probably come back to. Forgot to take pics but we split the sushi roll, spicy noodles, golden triangles, and bang bang cauliflower — all good but none nearly the best version of those things that I’ve had

Excellent vegan 'small plate' restaurant - Edit
Had dinner here last night for the first time since they transitioned to 100% vegan. We had four small plates. Started off with their tempura sweet potato sushi, which was excellent. Followed that with the Golden Triangle Tofu, and a bowl of chili. Finished off with the spicy cauliflower dish. The service was very good, with all the dishes brought out in 5 minutes or less from the time we ordered. The owner stopped by to introduce herself and inquire how everything was. She owns two other restaurants in the building, and one of them shares the kitchen with Bar Vegan. She made it clear that the vegan side is separate from the meat/fish/chicken section, and that they have a dedicated vegan fryer. Everything is made in house except for the dessert, which we tried. The gluten free peanut butter chocolate cake is made by a local vegan bakery, and was good. It wasn't too sweet, but it could have been a little moister. Dinner came to $60 for two people, no drinks. If you are very hungry, this probably isn't the place to go since it is a small plate place. My only suggestion to improve the atmosphere would be to turn down the music just a bit, as the acoustics of the room are a bit harsh on the ears.
Read moreEdited June 19, 2022. Happy to report that the owner has turned down the volume in response to customer feedback, so now I give Bar Vegan 5 stars. Food and service were just as good second time round, and I could converse with my dining partner without having to yell across the table. It's great when businesses actually respond to customers' needs.

The ambience was so cute, staff was great, and so was all the food! The menu seems a bit limited as everything was intended as a share plate, I’d like to see an entrees section but I really enjoyed the whole experience!

More upscale than most vegan joints - Edit
This place newly opened and turned itself into a fully vegan bar that also serves tapas. It's pretty cute inside with fake plants everywhere and pretty exciting to have a nicer place that's all vegan! The food was pretty good, not the best I've had. Definitely thought it was overpriced given what the selection actually was. But overall I'd definitely come again.
