Boul’s Gold

Expectations were set at near maximum for this breakfast jaunt. Having been privy to some outstanding experiences at other restaurants within this upmarket hotel chain, I had every reason to believe this one would follow suit.
Upon entering the restaurant, it seemed my assumptions were justified - the space was both aesthetically pleasing and cosily inviting, and I was immediately serenaded by an orchestral rendition of my number one song from my favourite musical (One Day More from Les Misérables, in case you were wondering). All signs pointed towards another memorable morning. However, much like the titular pun, it soon became clear that all that glitters isn’t quite as golden as it appears.
Before ruminating on the negative, I’ll start on upbeat note. The general quality of the food, across the whole spread, was superb. From the humble baked beans right through to the aromatic dal, I couldn’t really find fault with anything in either taste or texture. In fact, one dish in particular was by far and away the best example I had ever come across: the foul. Visually speaking, it differed greatly from the norm and I was at first dubious as to its credentials, but after first mouthful, I was completely sold. Uncharacteristically light, yet bursting with flavour, I now know what this Arabian staple can be when truly done right.
Now, for the grumblings. Admittedly, I was holding this place to exceeding high standards, and, as aforementioned, the food was indeed of a noteworthy standard, but something just didn’t quite sit right. Whether it was the apparent air of apathy from a number of the servers or the lack of the advertised vegan cake (reflecting now, I highly suspect it was the latter), I was left feeling underwhelmed. Given the overall quality of what I ate, I would be minded to give it another chance - perhaps the fault lay with me and my mindset rather than with the place itself.
