Many options, good flavors - Edit
They had more vegan options than a lot of NYC restaurants. The lentil soup was very good, although I wasn’t sure if the toast it came with had butter or margarine on it. The impossible burger was standard. The vegan chocolate cake was VERY good.

Expensive spinach - Edit
Farmers salad was okay but mostly just spinach and oil - few figs and hazelnuts. Cost me $40 odd AUD 😳 was only worth half that.

Highway robbery! I consider Carnegie Diner to be a tourist trap, though admittedly, prices here in NYC in general are over the top.

I appreciate the effort! - Edit
This dinner is kitty-corner from Carnegie Hall. The food is not inexpensive (pricier than what one might expect from a diner), but the portions are huge. I had a vegan burger and lentil soup; both were pretty good. This diner has a whole page devoted to plant-based foods--but it is not quite vegan. For instance, the fries were cooked in the same oil as the meat; the salad had honey vinegar dressing; I was served non-vegan cole slaw with my vegan burger; none of the desserts are vegan; etc. Fortunately, I alerted the friendly servers that I wanted vegan food, and they were careful to accommodate me (for instance, swapping the fries for veggies; swapping the salad dressing, etc.). But be forewarned: you should not automatically expect that everything listed on the plant-based page of the menu is vegan unless you double- or triple-check.

Cons: Pricey for a diner, the plant-based listings are not all vegan

A for effort - Edit
First, I really appreciate this diner having a separate plant-based menu. I stopped in for breakfast and got the egg breakfast. There’s a picture of this breakfast as the main picture on HappyCow and they have changed the dish. It’s a little odd, but it is an omelette on a multigrain roll (omelette sandwich?), and then you get french fries instead of hashbrowns, along with a salad. Once I got past that, it was pretty good. When I return, I would ask for toast instead of the multigrain roll and ask for hashbrowns instead of french fries. I’d also prefer fruit over the salad.

Plant menu and huge portions - Edit
Good service, great food, huge portions. We split a vegan breakfast sandwich and our kids split an order of non- vegan pancakes and we had food leftover.

Full plant-based menu… - Edit
Awesome job with a full plant-based menu at this popular diner. I ordered the omelette plate which was fair, nothing spectacular. The menu has all the main ingredients for a vegan menu including vegan egg, vegan cheese, Impossible patty, etc. I’ll have to try some of their other offerings before I would give a higher rating.

Great Plant-based options! - Edit
Great experience with a separate plant-based menu that included breakfast omelette, sandwiches, and more. Lunch and dinner also featured in the menu. The coffee was fantastic for a diner!
