Great vibe and great cake - Edit
Found this place while walking around Manchester all day!! Wow so needed and everything about it was great. It’s busy lots of students/workers so finding a table took a few minutes but it’s a big place so you will get one! Great service decent tea! And a few vegan cake options.

Wildly Unexpected - Edit
I knew that there was coffee and cake on offer here, so that was more than enough to tempt me in, but what I didn’t know was what a unique (in a good way) place it would be. Far more cavernous that it first appears, it interior is something akin to that of antiques shop with mismatched yet comfortable furnishing. Whats more, many of the seating areas are divided into charming themed areas. As for what I had, the coffee, a charcoal latte (gimmicky, I know, but it worked on me) was superb and the two cakes were both moist and delicious. My preference went to the caramel banana piece, but it was a close call. Definitely somewhere I would return to, even if the service was a touch cold.

Cozy cute café with books - Edit
Went here to hide from the rain and so happy I did.
Read moreThe place is really big with a lot of different cute corners to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee, tea or cake. When I was there they only had the "Vegan Biscoff cake" left but I didn't mind. Had it together with a hibiscus tea which was delicious as was the cake, both creamy and tasty. The café has WIFI and a lot of people were on their computer or reading a book (seems like a place you stay for longer) and I especially liked the cozy vibe.
It really felt like a living room and the interior was great with both sofas, armchairs and tables to study or just read a book, and the walls had a lot of bookshelves.
Would highly recommend going here if you're ever in Manchester!!

Calm and comfy cafe - Edit
I go here almost regularly and love the fact you order from your phone at your table, makes the process so much faster and avoids mistakes. It's super cosy and great not just for meeting friends but also getting work done.
Read moreQuite a lot of vegan options both for cakes and drinks (mainly drinks), I like all the drinks I've had here (minus the matcha lattes they're never quite fully mixed). I got a matcha this time and a beetroot ginger latte which was amaaazing! It was pink and delicious and if anyone is here when they're on the menu definitely get it I could have had 4.
Pros: Lots of vegan options for drinks., Easy order process., Pleasant and peaceful atmosphere.
Cons: Not much vegan food.

Looks delicious :)) I agree about the limited menu, but a delicious drink with no surcharge for the plant milk is still a blessing !!

Delicious drinks - Edit
Very cozy atmosphere with great priced drinks , I ordered a cappuccino which was delicious and my friend ordered a matcha - less delicious but I’ve found a lot of cafes fail to correctly prepare matcha so it isn’t surprising, just kind of wish it was only sold if they can prepare it well.(imagine matcha sat at the bottom unmixed)
Read moreThere’s no surcharge on plant milk which is a blessing, and they serve cakes with vegan options. But as there’s meat served, and the matcha I gave it a 3….. I still recommend it though it’s great!!
Pros: Great price for coffee, No surcharge on plant milk
Cons: Not vegetarian ;-;

Great place, best vegan cake - Edit
We ordered two vegan cakeas and loved them both. Moist and rich in flavor. Place was packed with people working and hanging out with friends. The bookshop is closed, they sold everything before Covid-19. You order with a qr-code on the table and they bring the food.

This café is just so cozy and perfect for reading, working or studying! Vegan cake available. The tea is very good and they also serve some special drinks such as a tea called Manchester fog. Cashless business.

Lovely study spot - Edit
I used to love working remotely from Chapter One. Always very busy and a nice atmosphere! Always have vegan cake option, with usually at least one being gluten free. Nice place for a coffee & snack.

Been here countless times - Edit
This is by far my favourite coffee shop in Manchester. They always have loads of vegan cake which is incredible. Great coffee and atmosphere. Really cute place with quirky decor. Fab place to go with friends, to study or to just chill. It’s also open late until midnight which seems odd but is actually really handy as it’s relatively near Piccadilly station, 10 mins walk, so great place to chill before trains and such.

A lovely atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff. Clearly labeled vegan options (my favourite was the brownie they had) and lots of different milks for your coffees.

Gorgeous Vegan & Gluten Free Cakes - Edit
I have been to Chapter One many times and the vegan cake offerings keep on improving, as they have several suppliers including The Brownie Owl.
Read moreChapter One is an oasis of calm, it so relaxing and chilled. I have eaten various cakes including Easter egg cupcake, chocolate brownie, and coffee maple pecan cake.
The pots of tea are small, but the tea is strong, so you can ask for top ups of hot water and the coffee is great too. Highly recommended.

Great Space But Nothing Special for Vegans - Edit
I really like Chapter One but not really for the vegan options. If I were reviewing it on a different site I'd probably be giving it more stars.
Read moreI had pancakes some time ago and they were nice but not better than I could do myself. There's usually a couple of vegan cakes/brownies but rarely one I want.
It is a bit of the expensive side though they will happily re-fill your tea pot with more water which makes it better value. But it's a lovely space and great that it's now open late as an alternative to going to a bar. The staff are friendly.
The coffee is average and there's several better coffees near by.
But it is one of my favourite places to chill with friends or do some work. It's quiet and spacious enough which is rare in the area, a lot of cafes are always packed or play music annoyingly loud. You never feel like you have over stayed your welcome.
I wouldn't go out of your way for it on the basis of it's vegan options though. I go elsewhere when cake or great coffee is what I'm after.

Only doing cakes right now - ignore the menu on the website - Edit
There are a few cakes on offer that are vegan, they look perfectly good. Their website has a menu that suggests they do a wider range of food, but they're "not doing it anymore". Which is up to them of course, but they should take the menu off the website. Cute space though.
