Solid option - Edit
I have been wanting to visit this place for a while. Previously, I got takeout from the Gorgie branch, which was a bit lackluster but still acceptable.
Read moreAs always, dining in left a much better impression. The vegan options were clearly marked, making it easy to choose. I started with a popadom to whet my appetite, followed by the Soya Naadan Curry with rice and chapatis. It seemed like an unusual choice, but I hadn't had it in such a long time.
Everything was fantastic. The dish was packed with soy and featured a rich coconut gravy, accented by fried curry leaves and dried Kashmir chilies. While it wasn't initially spicy, the depth of flavor developed with each bite.
Overall, it's a great option in the southside.

Very nice curry - but a little on the hot side for some! - Edit
Chennai's Marina is a lovely wee restaurant in Newington. Vegan options are clearly marked for the starters and mains, but we needed to ask for guidance on the rice and breads.
Read moreI had the Gobi 65 which was an absolutely delicious starter of deep-fried cauliflower. My kedalai curry main was also super tasty. I particularly liked the chapattis, which were quite authentic and a good size.
I can take a bit of spice, so the heat level was perfect for me. However some of my fellow diners found some of the dishes a bit hot. Keep an eye out for the soya ularthu starter - which was marked on the menu as 'one chilli' hot, but was probably more like two to three chilli's worth!
Otherwise, it was a really great meal and I will definitely be back.
