Best meal in Vancouver - Edit
When you’ve been a vegan for 30 years and a restaurant surprises you, “I can’t believe it’s vegan!” It’s a little pricey but worth every penny!
Read moreWe ordered the Banh Tieu (donut), the spicy truffle wontons, Banh Cuon Chay (rice paper rolls), and the Hakurei Turnip appetizers. They are all great!
For the mains, we ordered the Truffle Crispy Kinoko Rice (loved it!) and the Truffle Charcoal Noodle which I could not believe was vegan because it was so creamy and smooth OMG.

Wow, wow, wow!!! Everything was amazing!!! So many flavours so many different dishes, every one beyond delicious. Chi was chatting with all the tables and so enthusiastic. The passion for amazing food and care for quality ingredients explains why it was so good!!!

Chi’s food is great - Edit
We stopped at Chi for dinner. We didn’t plan far enough ahead to order the tasting menu but that is definitely on the books for next time! We started with enoki mushrooms on a bed of creamy potato. For entrees our group had the sticky “beef” with rice, the yellow curry, and eggplant with smoked tofu. The food was amazing. Our Omni friend enjoyed the “beef” so much that he plans to return to the restaurant to have it again. Owner, Chi, was extremely attentive and clearly wanted her guests to enjoy the food. Don’t miss this restaurant when you are in Vancouver!

Flavorful and Delicious! - Edit
I’ve been to Chi on my past two visits to Vancouver. Stumbled upon it the first time and rushed back the next.
Read moreFrom beginning to end, each meal was a delight of layered and surprising flavors and textures, all beautifully presented. Yes, it is expensive, but worth the splurge.
Also, unexpectedly uncrowded.
First meal (for 2, pictured) was:
Barbecue mushroom skewers with cucumber salad (solid)
Veggie-stuffed rolls that are fried, then swathed in fresh herbs and a rice wrap, with tamarind dipping sauce (out of this world!)
Pomelo salad with crispy seed crackers, useful for scooping (delicious and unlike anything I’ve had before)
Second meal no pix, for 3) was:
What the Pho and Fuzzy Smoking Peach cocktails and Lychee Elderflower Spritz (all tasty),
More veggie rolls (still amazing), crispy oyster mushrooms (sub for artichoke hearts, also good and gingery), pancake duck wrap (made with jackfruit and with lots of yummy things to roll with), truffle charcoal noodle with a very realistic sun for Parmesan cheese, made from potatoes (have not had pasta with a creamy sauce like this since going dairy-free). Baby bok choy with garlic was good, but it’s one-note flavor pales by comparison to the other fishes.
Ube ice cream and more mousse topped off an excellent meal.

We loved everything we tried here! We went here twice and my recommendations are Spicy Wontons and Butternut Sage Pierogi for appetizers and Dan Dan Pappardelle, Truffle Udon Carbonara, Tumeric Fish on Hot Skillet for mains. The housemade beverages were also lovely. The service was excellent and the owner was very friendly.

The head chef of Chi was on Vietnamese master chef - you can tell! The food is inventive, blending Asian and western cuisine in a broad and varied menu (eg we had an Udon middle carbonara).

Just okay. - Edit
Vancouver is fortunate to have many Vietnamese restaurants, including a few that are specifically vegan. Chi Vegan has a nice atmosphere, but (based on several visits and trying many different items) the consistency, portion size, and quality of the food doesn't match the price.

All Ⓥ and blown away! - Edit
Wow. Wow. Wow. Chi is AMAZING! The menu changes seasonally, so every three months. Every single dish was unique and blew me away. I can’t believe how good the Fried Tofu Fish was! The Rose Ginger Beer is something else. The Truffle Udon and new Head Cheese are both worth the price of admission. This place was a carnivore restaurant until the pandemic, when the owner decided to make it completely vegan! She was there serving and hosting too. I can’t say enough good about Chi. Will definitely go back and bring friends and family too.

This restaurant seems great. Great reviews, hyped up and pricey menu with delicious sounding meals. Nice atmosphere and interesting beverages. Nice staff (but a bit understaffed during our visit). But when it came to the food, it was just ok.

Maybe Not - Edit
Updated review April 2021:
Read moreIt seems like this place changed owners because the service was very unfriendly and disengaged. Food was ok but not as delicious as our first visit. I emailed them my concerns and they didn’t reply. I really wish they could have stayed consistent.
Original review Oct 2020:
We visited at 3pm on a Wednesday- place was dead but the service was not and the food was amazing. WI had kimchi and seaweed salad to start- fresh and full of flavour! Followed by curry latske and the turmeric “fish” bowl- amazing! And all that only $44!
Wish I could make these dishes at home. Go there if you haven’t- so worth it!!
Pros: All vegan, Everything made in house (except noodles), Lots of flavour

Amazing Asian vegan food - Edit
Chi Vegan was the first restaurant on my "Vancouver must-eat bucket list" and it definitely didn't disappoint!! This Vietnamese restaurant used to be an non-vegan restaurant and became fully plant-based last year, when the owner became vegan! We spoke with her and she was very friendly.
Read moreI had the Chi tofu bowl as my entree (SO YUM), and we shared a plethora of scrumptious appetizers: the spicy truffle shrimp wontons, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower wings, and veggie rolls. Everything was so delicious and portions were perfectly sized. A bit pricey but definitely worth it. Service was quick and efficient and presentation was beautiful.
Pros: Everything!!!

Nice but pricey - Edit
Pleasant little restaurant but fairly expensive. We had the Veggie Rolls (very nice although a bit oily), Char-Grilled Eggplant (somewhat simple), Morell Perogi (pretty disappointing - I wouldn't know they had morells inside if I hadn't read the menu...), Cha Ca La Vong and Curry Laksa (both quite delicious), and the Belgium Waffle with passion fruit ganache (lovely). If you're planning to go there during peak times, you may want to book a table.

What a lovely experience - Edit
5 stars for their creative and tasty dishes. 5 stars for their staff, so nice and attentive. 5 stars for the location, cozy and nice to visit. Highly recommended. We were there with a toddler, and they served him right away: awesome. The bun Vietnam balanced, fresh and delicious. The Dan Dan an explosion of flavors. Best French fries I have ever had in Vancouver. Reasonable prices.

Second time round was better :) - Edit
Had the house burger and the duk lettuce wrap.
Read moreI was really excited about the wrap as it's totally up my street.
However, I found that majority of the flavour came from the hoisin sauce, which was nice and sweet. The lettuce was vibrant and fresh, wish there was more and for them to be bigger pieces as I had quite a bit of the filling left over. The actual "duk" filling which had sweetcorn, mushrooms and jackfruits in it (along with other ingredients) tasted bland with salt being at the forefront. The texture was good overall.
I despised the puffed rice noodles, whenever I ate a piece, it somehow turned into an unchewable plastic thread-like texture, even though it looks crispy and light in touch.
My bf had the house burger and didn't enjoy it. The bread was unpleasant and was made very soggy by the veitnamese vegan cheese sauce (the white sauce), the sauce itself was not good either.
The burger patty itself was minced mush, but it tasted ok along with the other ingredients.
I had a taste and I liked the beany taste of the burger, but it was like gritty mush. Not the worst or the best burger ever.
I loved the length of the chips, and the texture of them, bf felt they were "airy" in a bad way, I enjoyed the few that I had.
I think that the dishes are overly complicated in a good way as I love seeing all these lovely stuff on the plate, it is not executed to its full potential though.
Overall, the food is very photogenic and the restaurant itself is lovely. Loved the decor and the space, music was a bit loud as we were sat by the speakers.
The server and waitress were both nice and accommodating.
We'll be back to try the other stuff, maybe it was just an off day.
Had the potstickers, chi's tofu bowl and pho ga.
Enjoyed the potstickers, the garnish was even tastier! Came out very fast too.
Pho ga was good, loved the broth, could do with more tofu and mushrooms as it was very noodle heavy. I want to be full on more ingredients!
Tofu bowl was good, but too dry and the veggies in there, especially the kale was unpleasant for the bf. The tofu was too strong in flavour for him, I liked it though. We added my broth to the bowl to moisten it up and to spread the taste of the tofu evenly.
Everything this time round was better than the previous food we ordered.
