Amazing tostada - Edit
We were walking down Alberta Street and spotted Chilango’s sign. We weren’t super hungry but thought we could stuff in something small like a taco. We tried a Taco de Mole sin Pollo with hibiscus flowers and mole sauce, and a tostada with poblano peppers and onions. The taco was really good but the tostada was amazing.

¿Dónde está el nacho? - Edit
I ordered their Tinga taco bowl which was pretty good. Surprisingly tasty. I came here in hope of having nacho, but I guess street Mexican food don’t serve such. I also ordered the cafe horchata (Mexican coffee with horchata) which is actually something I’d order again from this street-cart-turn-restaurant. Definitely recommend swing by for street food meal. The search for vegan nacho continues...

HOLY GRAIL TACOS - Edit
First time trying food from here, and I got the taco campana (if you’re intolerant to jackfruit, this is their non-jackfruit option). These tacos tasted absolutely DIVINE. I can’t stop thinking about them. The taste is perfection, the flavors are perfect, not overboard, it tastes identical to meat (but not in a way that freaks you out), everything is perfection. I will now be a regular! Best tacos I’ve tried period, let alone vegan! Finally found my perfect substitute to my favorite Mexican food 😭❤️

This place is amazing! The fillings are just incredible! And they go on chips or in a bowl with rice and black beans (also deliciously made!) or in quesadillas. Wow! Will add pictures next time.

Food was great and prices were very reasonable!! The garlic mushrooms were especially good, but I also really liked the chicharrón taco as the tofu was fresh and light and the salsa verde was delicious !!! Service was great too Alex was welcoming and helpful! Spacious dining area. Will come back!

Great Vegan Mexican in pdx 🔥 - Edit
Chilango 🔥 this spot is a gem. Quesadillas, tacos etc with flavorful fillings. I ordered 4 different dishes to get a feel for what they have. There was definitely some flavor that I had never had and way of preparing that were a bit different than what I was used to but Everything was great.
Read moreThe seem really nice. The person who helped me was really knowledgeable and helpful in picking different dishes. They also have alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and the Mexican coke/sprite

Delicious Mexican street food - Edit
Since opening, Chilango PDX has become my go-to spots for tacos with flavorful fillings. In no particular order, my favorites are: garlicky mushrooms, chicharron, tinga, and papa con chorizo. I've dined in a few times, and the staff are very accommodating, and truly live the values published on their website. I love that they have a profit-sharing model for employees/collaborators, so if you dine in you know you're contributing to a business that really cares about the people who work there.

Best tacos in Portland - Edit
Every dish here is delicious. This is food that takes me back home, with veganized ingredients and incredible “sazón”. These people care deeply about the food they make and work hard to contribute to the end of animal exploitation, both human and non human. Service is exceptional and prices are very accessible, even too inexpensive considering what they pay their employees and the amount of work that goes into each order.

Finally! This place is the best, hands down. My only complaint is that even dining in, there are some disposable cups and such used, like for the esquites and salsas.

100% Vegan Restaurant! - Edit
I ordered delivery via DoorDash from Chilango last evening & I can resolutely say I enjoy their flavors & overall execution of providing a 100% vegan Mexican option in Portland (I wish we had more!)--the reason I'm leaving a star off is specifically related to the portion sizes. I ordered eight tacos (two four-taco plates) & a three quesadilla sampler (with added saudero, tinga, & garlicky mushrooms) & expected nearly $40 worth of food (not including delivery) to be abundant enough to make more than a meal/meal & a half--it wasn't. The tacos & quesadillas are miniature in size (I haven't seen smaller tacos or quesadillas at any of the other vegan-friendly Mexican restaurants I enjoy, such as El Nutri Taco, La Bonita, Los Gorditos, etc.). I will visit/order from Chilango occasionally as I like their unique fillings & the food is flavorful-but not moreso than their competitors that offer more substantial tacos at lower price points.

authentic vegan street tacos - Edit
I went to Mexico near Mexico City when I was 18 for two weeks and it was like my second home. I was an omnivore and had real Mexican street tacos. As a result of this authentic experience while traveling I ended up with Montezuma's revenge aka loose motions.
Read moreFast forward to 2023 I am in the NE of PDX going to Chilango PDX for some vegan tacos. The owner is from Mexico City making authentic vegan street tacos from where he is from. My server was from Brazil and was very friendly.
Upon his suggestion I went with the following four tacos:
Chicharron
Suadero
Taco Campana
Tinga
Two were jack fruit based, one was tofu based and the last was my server’s favorite aka impossible and beyond meat combination.
I am not too keen on impossible and beyond meat yet still found all the tacos tasty and flavorful albeit a bit heavy. It was about $15 USD for everything.
I would suggest having a more healthy option on the menu like a plant based vegetable dish or two.
I have been to three all vegan taco places on Turtle Island aka the US including:
The one in Austin aka Nom Taco I believe (my favorite) aka a food truck
Chilango PDX in Portland a second favorite
One in Sacramento which had a nice potato side dish yet tacos could have been better
Four stars.
Pros: authentic vegan street tacos
Cons: more veggie dishes

Its real good but not spicy. - Edit
I loved the service and welcoming environment. The food was real good specially the Tingá made from jack fruit, it brought back memories of my childhood. The spice level of the hot sauce is mild not spicy at all but was flavorful and went well with the food. This deserves a 5, some things are out of their control. When it comes to Sopes they are not deep enough and to me they seemed like a soft version of a tostada, with good portions topped on, the food just kept slipping through the sides.

Gracias! - Edit
Chilango has so many options it was tough to choose. The usual tacos, sopes, quesadillas- but you choose your vegan filling. I wish I could have tried them all! Also tried a holjaldrita, which reminded me of sloppy joes, better than mom ever made! I also love that they have fresh squeezed OJ! Delicious all around.
