Good Vegan Pizza - Edit
I've lived in Santa Cruz for almost five years and have only recently gotten to try Engfer Pizza Works. Where have I been because they really offer one of the better vegan pizzas in town.
Read moreThey sport a large array of vegetarian friendly pizzas that can be veganized by removing the cheese (obvs) and using their house-made tofu spread and red sauce as a base for any pizza. They also offer a gluten-free crust too.
Being newbies, it was fitting for us to try their New-Bee Pizza (vegan style) - a toasty mix of garlic, olives, and red bell peppers. A large sets us back about $35 including tax. We also ordered their soup of the day, which was this creamy sweet potato stew that was fully plant-based too.
Our pizza was fantastic. Took about 15 minutes to come out but the crispy pizza crust with the fragrant toppings was really great. My only wish would be if they had some plant-based meat options or other appetizers besides the pizzas since we were hungry, but the pie itself was just great.
Drinks are easy to handle as well. You simply serve yourself water or head over to the large fridges to grab another beverage of your choice, and pay at the end along with your pizza.
Street parking is available if you're lucky to find some. It wasn't a problem for us visiting even late at night on a weekend.

Great vegan pizza without fake cheese! - Edit
This cozy pizzeria is my wife and my favorite! The crust is great, which is the real test of a pizza, and the homemade vegan cheese sauce is a light and refreshing change from the usual oily fake cheese options. The really hot, wood fired oven adds a toasty deliciousness. Lots of vegan toppings, and a good beer selection. It has a down-home atmosphere, a few outdoor tables on the sidewalk, and a really friendly proprietor. Plus, it's a couple of blocks from the ocean. Check it out!

Homemade tofu cheese is like ricotta - Edit
The pizza I ordered was a 14” vegan cheese with vegan pesto. I loved how light the cheese was, with a solid crunchy crust as well. It’s a nice place to sit down, not the craziest price but about $23 for a pizza. Their homemade cheese is what sets them apart from other restaurants. Worth it!

wood fired pizza and vegan pesto! - Edit
Their pizza is delicious and they are such nice people. The atmosphere is super casual, you order at the counter and then play ping pong and hang out while your pizza is made. You can grab craft soda or beer from the fridge. At the end of the dinner, go up to pay.
Read moreThe pizza is cooked in a wood fire oven. The vegan cheese has a great texture similar to a soft cheese like ricotta and is made in house. I got two large pizzas for our group and they were all eaten. One had vegan pesto and one had red sauce. My favorite was the pesto.

Best pizza in town - Edit
The two women that own this place are amazingly warm hearted. They have been making some of the best vegan pizza in town with a tofu cheese spread and so many delicious vegetables. Don’t get me started on the beer and wine selection.

Great thin crust vegan pizza - Edit
My husband and I love vegan pizza at Engfer. The pesto and vegetarian toppings are really good, the woodfire thin crust superb. It's nice they make their own vegan cheese sauce and not use Daiya. We're always surprised we finish an extra large one with nothing to take home - it's so tasty. And they have excellent selections of beer on tap. The owners and staff are very attentive and friendly so that's another plus. If you like pizza and you're vegan, this is the place!

fab vegan pizza! - Edit
We specifically ordered 3 pizzas from Engfers, and they randomly decided that one of them should have cow's milk based cheese on one of them. I am not sure if they did it on purpose or not, but we were very disappointed.
Read moreTheir one vegan pizza is pretty good, but I don't trust them any more. I am not sure if we'll be going back.

Engfer's Rocks - Edit
Lots of vegetarian options, and Megan's Vegan is delicious. No weird fake cheese taste. Excellent salad and beer selection (including local organic beers). They're also very kid-friendly--they have a ping-pong table:o)
