Swimming in oil - Edit
We've come here once or twice a year for years and always loved it. The vegan PB&J milkshake is amazing! However, for the last couple of visits, the food has been very oily. This time, the onion rings came out sitting in a thick layer of oil, as the basket hadn't been drained properly. The oil in the friers needs changing, too. Both the burgers and onion rings had that horrible aftertaste from old oil. It's such a shame, and hopefully, it improves soon....

Cons: Food far too oily

Not favourable if you don’t enjoy quorn - Edit
Many vegan options but not a strong contender for someone who doesn’t eat quorn. I did however make a main meal out of sides and was stuffed with the trash brown, onion rings, frickles and purple slaw

Cons: Not many non-quorn options

Great value - Edit
Very child friendly - £7.50 for a create your own vegan burger (chicken or beef) with side and drink included. They also have a happy hour for adults from 4-5pm when you can get a starter, main and side much cheaper than usual, with 2 vegan starters and 2 vegan burgers included in the deal. I'll definitely go back.

Happy Hippo at Fat Hippo - Edit
Firstly, interior decor was so cool with lots of artwork on the walls. Menu was clear with what was vegan. There was plenty of options for us to chose from.
Read moreI went for frickles (portion was larger than expected) and the VFC with fries. We also got a Kula Faker (spicy vegan chicken) burger as well with onion rings. The burger quality was amazing. Only downside was that it was a messy to eat burger. I could have used more napkins to be honest.
The desert (ice cream) options and milkshakes looked great. I would try these next time. On this occasion, I felt so full.
Better than I expected, for sure. Will be returning in the future. Pricing is okay considering the quality of food. Staff were also really nice.
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Quality food, Good customer service
Cons: Messy to eat - more napkins could be provided

Don't raise your eye - Edit
Missed out on the midweek afternoon beer and burger deal for £7.50 by about 2 hours so can’t really complain. Paid £13 for a mediocre but tasty vegan burger and £5 for a 330ml can of craft beer. Cost of living crisis? Judging by how many people were out and about I don’t think so. Happy to have tried it but this is a one-off for me. At least Roger Daltrey was good afterwards.

A LOT of food - Edit
There was plenty of vegan options on the menu for starters, mains and sides. Most of the starters and sides were veganised versions of the non-vegan food.
Read moreThe food that came out, although quite tasty, were huge portions. Most people in our party struggled to finish and because it was all deep fried, it wasn't a good kind of full.
I had vegan frickles (which I realised later weren't the vegan version they brought out). Yummy, but EXTREMELY oily. I also had the Harlem Fake burger which was great. Fries on the side.
Pros: Get a lot of food , Plenty for vegans
Cons: Deep fried everything, Kind of pricey

The vegan burger section had five choices and there was a special on too. Lots of vegan starters to choose from too. There was a vegan beef, chicken or pulled pork option. The burger I got was delicious and came with onion rings and cheese. Really nice food.

Great vegan options - Edit
They have had great vegan burgers for quite some time, but they also have good vegan sides now. We love the "vegan dirty fries" with vegan cheese sauce and vegan bacon. I love that the vegan options are just as inventive and indulgent as the non-vegan options and they are about the same price too. A great place to eat with non-vegans, would recommend going when very hungry though as it is extremely filling. Definitely not for those who don't like greasy/deep fried food though as pretty much everything seems to be deep fried.

Delicious - Edit
We decided to visit Fat Hippo last night. Good I prebooked a table as it was very busy. The food was amazing. I chose the vegan fried pickles as a starter and they came with vegan mayo and a spicy sauce on the side. As a main I went for the Notorious VFC 2.0 and Dirty Vegan Fries on the side . Plenty of food, plenty of vegan options. Definitely coming back.

Great! - Edit
Really tasty fries and burger served in an enamel dish with waxy paper, and excellent service from the staff. As always, a burger is messy to eat but there is cutlery on the table. Would definitely come back. Fries had delicious topping and plenty of salt. Afterwards I felt so full, like a boa constrictor, I won’t have to eat again for another 6 months (yeah, right). Nice 80s music playing
