Serves meat, vegan options available. Bookshop with cafe on the 5th floor. Veggie-friendly using some organic ingredients. A few vegan options. Open Mon-Sat 09:30-20:00, Sun 12:00-17:00.
This place has poor reviews on here but as we were nearby and the last review was 4 years ago we decided to give it a try. We needn’t have bothered, as previous reviews have mentioned, they offer a vegan chocolate brownie and that’s pretty much it. The only other vegan food I saw was quinoa crisps. I forgot to check the drinks, but after seeing the food offering I wouldn’t have stayed anyway. It was also really busy and there weren’t many seats free, which isn’t a criticism, just more of a warning if you’re hoping for a chill bookshop vibe.
I love the fact that there is a bookshop near me that sells vegan food but this could be so much better! The selection of food isn't big enough but the atmosphere is great and the staff are great. Improve this please!
Weren't a lot of options when I was there before Easter in 2018. A blueberry and something soup, and a brownie bar. Sadly, they were out of smoothies, but they looked good! Overall, maybe not the best place for picky eaters. Tried the brownie, however, and it was pretty good. A little dry and crumbly, perhaps, but I was starving and couldn't leave the bookshop, so it was low-key heaven. Dark chocolate chips inside, which gave it a nice crunch. Somewhat noisy to sit there, but putting on my headphones and drawing, I didn't even notice there were other people. Okay vibe and minimalistic (pretty imo) interior design, so I will probably come back next time I'm in London, though I'm going to eat a bit before, in case there are few and/or "scary" menu items, and then opt for a brownie as dessert if going with friends who want to eat there.
In the old Foyles store, the atmospheric cafe used to be a great place to stop off for a coconut/chocolate vegan flapjack and coffee. The staff were also cool and friendly.
The new modern but rather dull cafe has nothing for vegans whatsoever. Might be OK for vegetarians, but no better than any other bland museum cafe. What a shame!
Update - have contacted the cafe who have assured me they do intend to have a vegan cake option - so going to give them an extra star!

This is a very central and convenient place to get vegan food, especially vegan food with protein in it. Originally it was based in their jazz section and it was really great, you got wonderful music (as they played CDs the staff liked all the time) - occasionally a live band - and nice food and friendly staff. About two years ago they decided to put the jazz CDs etc. on a floor above and were left with this large, uninteresting, reverberating space, with too many chairs and tables packed into it - and did nothing about the wholly inadequate toilet facilities. They are still one of the few bookshops providing vegan food in London BUT it does run out very quickly so if you go in at the end of the afternoon there may be very little left.
To get to the café go in to Foyles bookshop on Charing Cross Rd, Tottenham Crt Rd tube station is three minutes away. It is on the second floor, signs pointing to it still say Ray's Jazz Cafe even though the jazz cds etc have now moved upstairs. Wood floors and wooden chairs and tables and a bar against the window looking on to Charing Cross Rd, it looks sort of barren in the space that used to be Ray's Jazz, maybe there is nothing on the walls. Some of the tables are really big so some people have to share when it is busy.
All types of people pass through.
There is quiche and baguettes with different fillings. One or two have smoked salmon or some ham/ salami in/on them. There are loads of cakes, also pastries, brownies and biscuits. Their hot chocolate is good, although I guess it depends who makes it. They have Yogi tea!

Good if you’re in Foyles anyway - Edit
Very cozy atmosphere, some vegan options… however I wouldn’t come just for the cafe, there are many better options in London

Don't bother - Edit
So, the chef was on holiday so there was nothing to eat besides apples and bananas. They do have some vegan brownies, assuming the chef is at work.
Read moreThe waiters were really friendly tho, they checked everything for eggs and dairy. Too bad they didn't have anything for us except soy lattes.

It is not table service.
Slightly more expensive than the average cafe.
There is Wifi.
Pros: Food stored well - all covered
Cons: not permitted to take books from Foyles , 1 toilet which always has a queue for, slightly expensive
