Dark. Dingy. Hidden. Probably the best bio supermarket in Porto. - Edit
I thought I had this place memorised from my phone map but managed to walk past it. There is no sign of any description - not even a handwritten note on the door, the front window is unlit and it looks like a disused shop space, but if you peer through the window you will see some dimly lit shelves set back about 20m.
Read moreNot the warmest of welcomes but once you're in, the place soon gives up it's raison d'etre. I visited at the start of January so I'm presuming the fruit and vegetable section will improve with the warming of the weather, although Miosotis in Lisbon (the city I just left) has a kick [censored] selection of winter fruit, greens and root vegetables at this time of year. The rest of the aisles, well I wouldn't really say they were full, but have a selection of most products you might/might no need - rice, pasta, soya, organic meat (very limited), plant based milks (good selection) cosmetics, tinned products, chocolate, tea, coffee, packets of "stuff" etc.
Perhaps what was most disappointing, apart from the vegetables, was the wine section. Having got a taste for natural and low intervention wines over the last two years in Portugal, the wine selection contains all the most commercial of organic wines - the sort you find in Go Natural the organic arm of Portuguese supermarket giant Continente.
Having only been in Porto for 3 days this was the first bio supermarket I've tried as it was closest to my house, which is important with a month long lockdown kicking off in 5.5 hours. As it's close I'll go back because there is a certain functionality to the place, despite the lack of joy, love or presentation skills evident. The prices are about standard for Portugal bio products but next time I'll take a torch and get in an out, it's not really a place to linger.
PS.
Updated review I've moved to a different part of Porto know so haven't been back to test my theory about the fruit and vegetable section improving, but I have tried several other bio supermarkets by now. Ideabio has the best selection of bio products I've come across so I've increased the star rating from 3*s to 4*s to reflect this. On a global scale it is still 3*s.

Lot's of variety for every vegan product, most of which are even less expensive than in the vegan shops.

Great selection of vegan food! - Edit
This is a natural food store that does carry meat, but they do have a very large selection of vegan grocery items. We got sausages and snacks. They have ton of plant based milks, and pretty much every kind of grocery item you'd need . They carry a ton of gluten free stuff if that's your thing. It's a pretty big store, too. It's kind of dark from the street and at first we thought it was closed. I had a lot of fun checking this place out, but then again I love going to grocery stores when I travel. If I lived in Porto, I'd probably go here a lot.
