Delicious and quiet

In a back alley close to Ginkaku-ji. The vegan set was delicious, the sesame tofu was really creamy and the tempura veggies were soft but crunchy outside. There is a possibility to sit on a tatami to eat in front of the garden and enjoy the view. The owner was very kind, and the non-vegan eater was also very satisfied (similar set but with shrimp tempura and scallop + a dessert).

Pros: Delicious, Quiet, Nice view

Cons: Nothing

Interesting tofu experience

Finally a truly vegan, traditional meal with tofu! My fav was the sesame tofu. The tempura was a little bit oily for me.
The whole place seems very authentic.

Charming lunch spot

A lovely stop for lunch walking along the Philosopher's Path. Felt such a treat sitting on tatami mats to eat. All the food was delicious.

Great food and Japanese experience

My favourite Japanese food experience in Japan so far. Very understanding of vegan meals and I was surprised at how delicious it was. English menu and speaking helped make me feel comfortable with what I am eating. Food and experience made the price very reasonable.

Pros: Amazing vegan set, Traditional Japanese

Cons: None

Best Tofu ever!!

We ordered the vegan tofu set. It was all very traditional, including the Yudoufu. Everything was very good. We additionally had a plum wine, which was marvelous. A little bit pricey but totally worth it. A must-go if you want to experience something truly traditional.

Lovely authentic meal for tofu fans

Staff were lovely and spoke english. Cute little restaurant and authentic meal. Set lunch and staff ensured it was suitable for vegans. Lovely food and great to try tofu in a different way! Recommend a visit if you are walking the Philosopher's Path

Tofu heaven

We had the Tofu set and reassured that it’s vegan. It consisted of different Tofu types, Tempura veggies, rice and pickles. The price was a bit expensive but once we ate the tofu it was all worth it! The cold sesame tofu melted in our mouth and we enjoyed the food a lot. I know I will be dreaming of this delicious Tofu. Highly recommend!

Fresh Tofu option

This is a fine place to stop for lunch or dinner if you're walking along the Philosopher's Path. The set meals are reasonably priced, and the service is quick and friendly.
The menu clearly indicates veg options, and there are several veg-friendly dishes, like miso -topped broiled tofu , on it .

Kisaki has a choice of tatami seating or western-style tables and chairs. We came for lunch, and ordered the boiled tofu set meal, which includes twig tea, rice, sesame tofu , a generous portion of hot fresh tofu , and veggie tempura. This is not gourmet food, but it was vegan. For a special tofu lunch or dinner, I recommend Tosuiro Gion, on Higashioji-dori, which has a multi course vegan meal (reserve one day in advance--English website).

If you're walking along the Philiopher's Path, this is a good spot to take a break and enjoy an unpretentious meal, with Kyoto's speciality, fresh tofu .

Pros: Fresh tofu, Reasonable price , Open for lunch and dinner, continuous service
