“You Know The Name Of King….” 😄 - Edit
Read moreAfter a long morning’s exploration of the lower town, visiting the primary tourist attractions and navigating the bustling back alleys, we were eagerly anticipating lunch. Kong was recommended as a top establishment for vegan cuisine, prompting us to embark on a quest to find it. (Given our unfamiliarity with the area, it took some time to determine the correct coordinates to locate the restaurant.) As the first two patrons to dine there, we were greeted by a downstairs foyer adorned with an elaborate “Kong” sculpture. From this foyer, we ascended to the restaurant. Since there were no other customers present, we were presented with a selection of tables. Once seated, I opted for a bottle of Coca-Cola, which arrived in a bottle (similar to Mexican Coke in the United States). It proved to be an ideal beverage to quench my thirst.
For my starter, I indulged in a fried “calamari” dish, reminiscent of the appetizer I had enjoyed at another restaurant the previous evening. (When I was not vegan, fried calamari was a staple on menus; for me, it serves as a barometer for the quality of the meal to follow. If they can master calamari, I am confident that the entire dining experience will be satisfactory.) While the dish was satisfactory, it was slightly less impressive than the appetizer I had had the night before. Nevertheless, it was still a commendable offering.
For my main course, I opted for the conventional burger (which featured Beyond Meat). The burger was edible, albeit slightly thicker than I prefer. (Aside from Burger King, which serves its burgers with a thinner patty, the thickness of this burger was somewhat unappealing to me.) Nevertheless, it was a decent burger. Jay opted for a croquette starter and the special “Tofu Wellington,” which consisted of tofu encased in puff pastry. Both dishes appeared appetizing.
In summary, we both enjoyed our meals at Kong and will undoubtedly return to experience their Christmas menu.
Pros: Great atmosphere!, Awesome service!, Fine vegan dishes.
Cons: Not a fan of Beyond Burger, sadly.

Amazing Vegan Food - Edit
While exploring Lisbon, we stumbled upon a charming restaurant called Kong. It’s not the most eye-catching place from the street, just a chalkboard on the sidewalk that gives it away. But once we stepped inside, things got really cool. You’re greeted by a giant Kong statue in the lobby! Take the stairs to the right, and you’ll pass by an overlook into the kitchen. At the top of the stairs, you’ll find a spacious dining area with several tables overlooking the street art-covered building across the street. And guess what? We were warmly welcomed by a server who promptly seated us. Oh, and did I mention that the same server was our server for the entire meal? He was super friendly and even explained the menu in detail. They had a great selection of traditional Portuguese dishes, but all of them were vegan. I started with the croquettes, which were delicious - crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside with a fantastic flavor. For my main course, I tried the daily special, Bife Wellington, and a local brew of Musa Golden. The croquettes were great, but the Bife Wellington was a bit of a letdown. The mushroom duxelle with spinach was a tad light, the tofu was too thick, and the bottom of the puff pastry was a bit soggy, probably because of the duxelles. I won’t be ordering it again, but I’m definitely going to come back to try some of their other dishes. While we were there, they had set up a photo shoot with their Christmas dishes, and let me tell you, they looked absolutely stunning! I hope on my next trip, I can bump up my review from 4 stars to 5.

A must go to in Lisbon! - Edit
Was not sure what to expect, not a big menu and had friends who are not vegan. 🌱 Needless to say they wowed us with everything!! Started with the croquettes-umm the picture says it all, three of us had the “steak and egg” and one person had the kong burger. Then we ordered desserts to share. Everyone left happy and content!! Would absolutely recommend them!!

Love KONG!! - Edit
I love Kong's food ! So tasty and flavourful! The price is amazing for the quality and very similar to an honest greens (in terms of prices). If you want a vegan version of a traditional Portuguese dish, this is the spot. Since I've been recently, I will say that they have changed their menu and sadly took one of my favorites, but added a very good new one: the salmon.

Portuguese cuisine turned vegan - Edit
It's refreshing to eat vegan food that doesn't attempt to be chic but simply tries to recreate Portuguese dishes in a plant based model.
Read moreI had the 'octopus' rice and my friend the francesinha. Both were very good, but I was especially impressed with the rice since good vegan alternatives to seafood are so hard to find. The pictures can't do it justice. The mushrooms that replaced the octopus were just the right texture.
The dessert was also good: the deconstructed 'cheesecake'. It felt strange at the first bite but then tasted better and better.
I will definitely come back!

Nice food - Edit
Food was good overall - the Bitoque (if i remember the spelling) was interesting but don’t think we would order that again, verging more on student food. The mediterranean salmon was really good. Dessert was the nata tart which was the best course and really tasty

Good food and service - Edit
The cheese sandwich was filling: bread, melted vegan cheese, mushrooms, tofu, topped in sauce, served with good fries. No room for dessert! I had a glass of vinho verde with my meal. I’ve also had the cauliflower wings (good and crispy) and the fabulous Oreo mousse - it’s so light! (Whipped.) A nicely priced Dish of the Day is offered on weekdays, as well as a combination deal of soup or salad, Dish of the Day and Oreo mousse for dessert.
Read moreUpdating the following year, 2024: I had the lunch meal deal: drink, soup, main. Iced tea; the soup was black-bean purée poured around a knot of shredded cabbage/carrot; and the main was tofu, baby potatoes, spinach, red peppers/onions (good though a bit oily). I enjoyed the meal. Pleasant service.

Definitely Something Special - Edit
This name was always among the top recommendations as I was looking for food choices in Lisbon. The restaurant is up a flight of stairs and features a large and well lit interior with a play area for the kids. The menu is streamlined and Portugal focused. I had the Francesinha, which is a smothered sandwich, with basically all the starters. They were all great, and I had a great glass of vinho verde. Oh and the desserts were amazing too. Franchise out to Hong Kong- or at least Macau?

You NEED to eat here... - Edit
Loved the decor, the atmosphere and the service but the food is what makes this place 10/10. It was really exciting to try vegan versions of local and traditional Portuguese dishes and everything was absolutely delicious. My favourite was the croquette starter and the nata dessert which even came with nata flavoured ice cream (totally unique). I happily ate my way through three courses...twice in one day! An absolute must visit when in Lisbon. Honestly, some of the best vegan food I have ever had and all of it has been created and made with love. You don't want to miss this place!

One of the best vegan dining experiences we've ever had. The food and sauces were out of this world. The dish with the mustard sauce, we couldn't believe the flavor. Sweet and savory, it left us wanting more things to dip. Would leave six stars if I could. Obrigado!

Delicious traditional Portuguese flavors, beautifully veganized. Nice presentation and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The staff were professional, friendly, and extremely helpful. The restaurant's seating area is located on the second floor, though I'm not certain if an elevator is available. Definitely recommend.
