So - that's the famous "Francesinha"? - Edit
This is likely going to be controversial, but after I have heard literally every person from Porto rave about out the "Francesinha", and telling me they pity me because as a vegan I can never experience it, and some even suggesting Lado B as one of the best spots to get it ... I have to say that I was not terribly impressed.
Read moreSo - why not? Turns out the Francesinha at "Lado B" is a toast (I knew that), filled with a sausage I found rather very bland, vegan cheese of the tasteless variety, and a little bit of vegan ham. So far, not very good. But the worst letdown for me was the tomato sauce.
I am not sure if that is a Portuguese specialty, as my "special vegan food" at business meetings twice had been Spaghetti with a horribly tasteless tomato sauce, but it seems that chefs in Porto do not know the most important secret to making a good tomato sauce - which is that you should use a noticeable quantity of tomatoes, whether from a can, or passata, or fresh, puree, tomato concentrate, or literally any kind of tomato product.
So - if somebody sends you to "Mercado Bom Successo" to visit "Lado B" to try authentic (if vegan) "Francesinha", then do yourself a favour and rather go to "Mun's" and check out their awesome vegan empanadas...
I also had the "Chachorro", which is basically the same thing, in a different shaped bun, minus the tomato sauce.

Pros: They offer a vegan "Francesinha"
Cons: IMO, "Francesinha" is very overrated

Excellent vegan franchensinia - Edit
Food stall inside market place. Has vegan franchensinia with vegan meat, tofu and cheese. Quite ‘junk food’ but delicious.

Vegan Francesinha - Edit
This is a nice place to try the vegan Francesinha. Lado B (the original restaurant) is one of the most famous francesinha places in Porto and they started offering the Vegetarian and the Vegan Francesinha. It is not my favourite, but it is a lot of people favourite vegan francesinha and I agree that it is very good!

Tasty Vegan Alternative - Edit
An awesome spot to come to sample vegan Portuguese sandwiches, great if you’re travelling with a non vegan so you can all give things a try! The man running the stall was super friendly and the food was inexpensive and tasty!
