Not quite fine dining but ok - Edit
We visited for lunch and had the 5 course tasting menu.
Read moreBefore going, due to having a long evening afterwards, we'd said we wouldn't drink alcohol with lunch, but were taken with the cocktail menu so ordered one each.
The amuse-bouche was perfect. An intense hit of mushrooms and cream - the sort of attention to detail that we hoped would set the tone of the rest of the meal.
The next course was a small, tightly packed rectangle of bubble n squeak, with an apple ketchup on top. This was disappointing. I felt the bubble was insufficiently seasoned and lacked something in flavour. The apple ketchup lacked sweetness and was deep brown colour, so not attractive either. It is difficult to present some British classics artfully and this was a good attempt, but it didn't quite work.
Next up was the butternut squash course. The butternut squash was well cooked and nicely warm but also refreshing. The cream went some way to offset the chilli. This was a good winter dish.
Roast potato in a "buttermilk" sauce was next. This was ok, initially the richness of the sauce offset by the samphire was pleasing, but by halfway through, the heat of the black pepper was a bit much and dulled the tastebuds.
The last savoury dish was aubergine massaman. This happens to be a favourite curry flavour here so perhaps our expectation was too high, but it was yet another course with too much heat from spice or chilli.
Dessert was a beetroot cake with salted caramel oat ice cream and cranberries. The cake was dry and would have benefitted from being warmed. The cranberries were lovely and the ice cream delicious, perfectly creamy and sweet.
We finished with oat lattes, which were the best coffees we had in Birmingham.
Land seems like a place where the restaurant creator had decided a plant based theme is a good USP, but doesn't fully embrace it. It's supposed to be fine dining but 3 of the five courses were just lots of heat and spice and didn't show much understanding of the incredible flavours available in the plant based culinary world.
The waiter informed us that this was the only vegan fine dining restaurant outside of London, clearly unaware of the award winning place close by in Nottingham and the various other eateries opening up around the country. Which confirmed my feeling that this is an attempt at vegan fine dining from people who don't really believe in it or feel it. It's professional and the service is great, but it's lacking finesse in the food.
Pros: 100% vegan , Nice staff and service

Amazing experience - Edit
We came for the taster menu with wine pairing.
Read moreIt was all superb. The flavour of all the courses was amazing. The wines complemented the courses well. The staff are friendly and full of knowledge about the food and wine.
We never felt rushed or pressured by them to hurry and the whole experience took about 3 hours.
Not the largest seating area ever so ensure you book in advance. There were a couple of disappointed people who tried to walk in.
Pros: Fully vegan tasting menu, Amazing flavour, Superb wines

Top Class - Edit
Well, what can I say about this place. I am normally a vegan junk food kind of person, however went for the 6 course taster menu yesterday and my word it blew me away. Sadly I didn’t get photos as it wasn’t really appropriate for the setting of my evening, but all 6 courses tasted incredible, with such a variety of flavours going on at the same time.
Read moreThey also had a great selection on the drinks menu, and I will go back for sure - and next time I will get photos!

Awe worthy experience - Edit
If you want a michelin star worthy veggie and vegan fine dining experience at an affordable price (as far as fine dining goes) then this is the place to go. Gorgeous restaurant, fantastic customer service with the perfect balance of friendliness and professionalism, with out being pretentious and making you feel unworthy if you aren't the typical fine diner. I found this restaurant by chance with a friend before going to a gig and we were both very excited to see a veggie and vegan only restaurant. It was the most delicious food I have ever tasted, the portions may be small but the are absolutely packed with flavour and truly make you cherish every bite. It takes a little while for each dish to come out but it's worth the wait and also gives you time to cleanse your pallet and taste the fantastic selection of wines they have on offer. It was such an amazing experience that I didn't even mind that going made me late to see my all time favourite band who I'd never seen before and had been extremely excited to see. I honestly couldn't recommend it more.

Superb, fantastic. Don't have enough superlatives for the quality and originality of the food. I had the 6 course taster menu and the food was stunningly presented and tasted sublime. Staff really friendly and clearly wanted us to have a lovely evening. Enjoyed the biodynamic Chilean wine too.

Fine dining at reasonable prices - Edit
The food here is just about the tastiest I've ever had - each dish is presented well and bursting with flavours, and is served with a description, and amuse-bouches are served prior to the courses. Very friendly staff.
Read more£28 for a three course evening meal is good value, although the portions are far from huge - the emphasis is definitely more on taste and presentation.
The menu is small (4 choices for each course), at least half of which are vegan, but not difficult to choose something.
Definitely a place to go to to satisfy your taste buds if not the stomach. Casual and informal setting.

Veggie & vegan fine dining in hipster Birmingham - Edit
This restaurant brings veggie & vegan fine dining to Birmingham in a cool environment. Every dish is an experimental mixture of textures and flavours - delicious to taste and a pleasure for the eyes. This is one of the few independent restaurants left in the city. I would recommend booking.
