Pricy yet delightful brunch

Was excited to try Lucyd, and was thankful it was only a few minute wait to be seated on this rainy Saturday morning. Contemporary and modern vibe inside. Kind staff who speak English. Seems like a mix of Korean locals and tourists enjoy this brunch spot.

Has limited but high-quality vegan options. Portion size seems small for the price.

Ordered 3 items:
- Tropical smoothie: good but not outstanding; somewhat watery consistency
- Vegan shakshouka: not usual flavoring of a shakshouka and overly pepper-y but still enjoyable (my partner actually preferred it to the traditional flavor); particularly small portion size; the side of bread was delicious and my favorite part of this dish!
- Banana bread: banana bread itself is vegan (and very scrumptious!) with optional ice cream and blueberry compote (also tasty)

Australian brunch place, with solid vegan options

We like to do brunch at a place we haven't eaten before on the first of January each year. Because Lucyd moved from Mapo to Jongno at some point last year, in 2025, we picked this place for our little New Year's tradition.

Lucyd is an Australian brunch place which has several vegan options on the menu, including avo on toast, shakshouka and banana bread. Some of these options can be ordered as either vegan or non-vegan, but the staff clearly understands veganism as they explain, for example, that they use oil instead of butter for toasting their (homemade) sourdough bread. The food is excellent as the focus at Lucyd is clearly on quality. The café's space is simply decorated (a few stuffed koalas and kangaroos at the entrance, but nothing much more). There is an open kitchen, with a bar table as well as some more tables across and in the back of the room. The place is popular – a mix of foreigners and Koreans – so if you want a more quiet spot, we'd recommend getting a corner table in the back. The food is beautifully presented and very tasty. My partner had a vegetarian version of the avo on toast (vegan option available), I had the vegan shakshouka. If you prefer lighter seasoning, you may want to mention that as some of the food is quite peppery (we enjoyed it, but tastes differ). The banana bread is massive and a bit different from American-style banana bread – crunchy crust & nice chunks of banana in the bread (recommended!). The vegan option comes with a fruity sauce; the non-vegan with ice cream.
Overall, we enjoyed our visit to Lucyd and will be back!

Note: Some of the staff speaks fluent English, so if you don't speak Korean, you may find this helpful to know.

Update March 14, 2025: We've been back a few times because we love Lucyd so much. The staff also remembers us – little details too (e.g., that we don't want a bag for the takeaway).

Excellent breakfast

They don’t have a lot of vegan options, but the ones they have are so very much worth it. Love the avocado toast, the flavors are outstanding. Excellent vegan bread, vegan banana bread for dessert… soy latte. I’m satisfied.

Pros: Outstanding food

Cons: Not a lot of vegan options

Run, don’t walk 👌

Honestly, hands down the best breakfast we’ve had in Seoul ( maybe even to 5 of all time ). Also, do yourself a favour - the vegan shakshuka was INSANELY good. Cannot recommend enough. Run don’t walk.

Australia in Seoul

Feels like sitting in a cafe back home. Few vego options, went with the avo on toast without the egg, and an oat milk latte. Felt so good to finally have coffee that wasn't Starbucks. Avo on toast looked small but was very filling. Coffee was great. Has other typical Australian brunch options so omni-friends will also be satisfied.

Pros: Tastes just like home, Finally good coffee

Cons: Not many options
