Proper Korean food

I was so glad to find this gem when I was visiting C’ville. I spent some time in South Korea and I can tell you now: this food tastes just like these dishes would taste in South Korea. Would highly recommend to anyone that loves Korean food. Many dishes can be made vegan

Pros: Traditional food, Many vegan options

A delicious Korean treat

Everything was so tasty and if the wait staff was unsure they made sure to verify what could be made vegan or couldn’t (due to fish sauce or other items that might be in sauces)

Pros: 3 marked vegan options all super yummy, Able to make many other dishes vegan , Lovely atmosphere and Korean nostalgia

Cons: Nothing!

Many dishes can be made vegan

I was headed to Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar (next door) and I stopped to look at Maru's menu and saw many tofu dishes and decided to go in. It was a great choice for a high quality Korean meal. My order was taken and prepared quickly and staff was kind and helpful. They understood what vegan is, and warned me that the kimchi contained fish sauce. So many of the rice dishes and stews can be prepared vegan (they are not marked vegan but each item description specifies ways to make it vegetarian if possible). Most dishes on the menu you can choose your protein, with organic tofu as a veg option. I got one of the spicy stews and a hot yuza tea, which were both delicious. The stew was served with rice and garnishes and was very filling. Entrees are around $13 but portions were plenty big and it felt like a good value for the quality of meal and service.

Pros: Authentic Korean Cuisine, Organic tofu available in many dishes, Fast and friendly service
