The staff is nice and everything is homemade. We had the dish of the day (which was not wonderful but we believe it was this specific dish) and the burger (that was really tasty). The carrot cake is something 😍.

Vegan restaurant in Sintra - Edit
While one of the staff members was always smiling, friendly and attentive (behind the counter), the other one who took the order didn't write down anything so she forgot to prepare my smoothie and I had to ask twice and I just received it after the entrée. She even said she had a bad memory (but didn't quite do anything about it).
Read moreThe food I had was okay, nothing strikingly outstanding, especially the canela mela dessert. The place is pretty small and if crowded it can take a while to be served.
Unfortunately, it's a bit farther away from the village.

Really cute place with good food - Edit
Cozy and friendly place, with different options than regular Portuguese food. We ordered their daily special and it was a very tasty and satisfying meal. We also took a couple of slices of carrot cake to go, but ended up eating them a few minutes later anyway, and it was delicious. The staff is very welcoming and friendly.

Mela Canela is a teeny vegan cafe in Sintra. There are a handful of tables inside and some outdoor seating across the street from the storefront. We enjoyed the dish of the day which was tempeh with mashed potatoes, cabbage, and green salad. We also had the falafel plate which came with a tahini sauce, rice, and a salad. Both were quite good and were generous portions. It was busy at lunchtime so we waited a bit for a table.
Read moreIn addition to hot meals, they serve coffee drinks and desserts. The one thing we did not enjoy was the lemonade, which apparently tasted like watered down lemon juice.

I guess in 2022, I think the bar should be a bit higher for a vegan restaurant. The menu listed a quiche or pie of the day, which I asked about and she said they didn't have it. I asked about another thing on the menu, and they didn't have it. The special was ratatouille with quinoa, which my husband got. He said it was fine. I got the burger, which was sort of a '90s black bean/beet burger with onions. So it was OK, as far as soft bean burgers go. But for 9.50, for sure it should've come with a bit of salad or a few fries. But it was all alone on a platter. So all I can say for it is that it was vegan food.

You have to be very lucky to grab one of the 5 little tables available. The food is home cooked and very nicely presented- I particularly liked the heart shaped soup dish. The portions are well sized but not too big, leaving enough room for dessert. Today’s strawberry mousse was my favourite and won over the Mela Canela tart. Actually the tart could be refined with some cream or vanilla sauce. Service is very polite and multi lingual. So glad we came back after 3 1/2 years - it’s still there!
