I used to go to Mr Charlies in SF all the time to get a cheat meal. In the last few months the quality has gone down. The food is extremely expensive but for a vegan it is where you want to go when you crave fast food that tastes like the other big M retail chain. In the last few weeks they started combining the nuggets and French fries. Why? Not sure. Your fries are already soggy and adding nuggets does not help. For a $20 meal, I'm not sure why the owners decided it was a good idea to combine the two. When I called on December 22nd, a guy answered and I asked him why they started doing that. I told him it felt like I was being fed scraps like a stray dog, he said there was nothing wrong since it is vegan. Wow. Never again. You lost my business

Read moreI ordered the Royal with Cheese frowny meal which came with fries and nuggets. The meal was super filling and absolutely great. The Royal, made with Impossible, slapped. The staff said it was bigger and had a sesame bun, but otherwise I couldn't tell how it was different than their regular cheeseburger. That's ok, there was more than enough food in the meal, and ordering the Royale felt serendipitous having just watched Pulp Fiction. Fries were great, the nuggets were good and an extra protein boost, and I loved that they offered a low sugar soda--the blueberry soda has 8g--that was really good without being punishingly sweet.
Most of all, I loved the whole statement. I had to get a frowny meal and I couldn't stop laughing at the box. The booth seating is really clever, and the whole decor is quite a scene. Especially being across the street from a MacDonalds.
The white sauce was a dud--too sweet, which is odd for somebody who has a sweet tooth. But the staff generously gave me a click sauce that is like a thousand island and I loved.
My only improvement is i would love to see them grow into the dessert game. Maybe some soft serve or at least warm chocolate chips? People complain about the price, but that's only because they are comparing it to McDonalds. I paid $23 for a giant meal that was excellent, and they literally have a $7 burger on the menu so c'mon folks.
Looking forward to seeing this take over McDonalds...turn that frown upside down!

So I’m still new to vegetarian/ Vegan life so most fake meat will taste well…like fake meat, but I was shocked to say that this place not only is funny enough located across McDonalds, but taste identical to it. I had what would’ve been equivalent to a Big Mac. If you miss having a McDonalds burger, this is your spot.

A very entertaining parody of a McDonalds, right across the street from an actual McDonalds. Clean, efficient electronic ordering system, great friendly service, and a variety of burger and other options on par with the McDonalds menu. The not-burger and fries were very good, the not-chicken nuggets were meh. The blueberry soda was great. Recommend you give it a try if you’re vegan and have a hankering for the McDonalds fare of your omnivorous past!

You know those restaurants where you hear about them once and then they live rent free in your head? That was Mr. Charlie’s for me. I saw a reel about them and had been eager to visit. They are so playfully cheeky! What’s even more hilarious is that there was a McDonald’s right across the street 😂 I was thoroughly impressed with the aesthetic of the restaurant.

I live for the fact that Mr. Charlie's is located right across the street from McDonald's. You can't deny it's hilarious but hey, a lot of fast food places use the red-yellow color scheme to make you hungry and it works.
Read moreThe fully vegan burger shop hits on nostalgia especially for people like me that no longer eat meat. The shop was cooky but fun with a few tables inside these large Mr. Frownie boxes.
They use impossible patties for their meat and offer a similar menu to the golden arches. Being breakfast time, I decided on the Mr.Muffin that used Justegg and an impossible breakfast patty. The food reminded me so hard of the old McD days that I have to give them their flowers. I also got to try their fries and while it didn't quite hit the same, they were still very good.
Although it's meant to parody McDonald's, the prices are steeper. But you are also getting better food with higher quality.
Strangely, we arrived at 9 when they opened for breakfast and their cashier hadn't arrived, so we were asked to order for pickup on Ubereats (which have higher pricing). A bit of a let down but we were already there and wanted to try their food. Definitely come maybe closer to 10 or later.

Vegan anti-McDonald’s Restaurant - Edit
I love the concept and the food is eerily similar to it’s McDonald’s counterpart. It’s been decades since I’ve had McD’s, but it tastes so close to the original that I was worried it wasn’t vegan. There is definitely a nostalgia feel as well as a political statement being made. As said previously, the place seems a bit run down and the service is not good. I’m glad we checked it out, but too expensive and it’s too greasy and the service and quality is not worth it.

It’s an interesting idea to copy McDonald’s, but veganize it. The problem is that McDonald’s isn’t good in the first place. This place feels more like it’s a pop art concept than actually a vegan restaurant that I want to eat at regularly. The burger is spot on to McDonald’s, in other words, sloppy and a weird mix of cheap onions, pickles, and ketchup. The nuggets taste oddly fishy. It’s also 3-4x the price of McDonald’s
