Great Southern Food - Edit
There is nothing I like better than finding a restaurant where EVERYTHING on the menu is vegan. This place has options that I haven't seen before, which was a pleasant surprise. I ordered the Nashville catfish. It was crispy, spicy and sweet. Everything I saw coming out of that kitchen looked fantastic. I will go back...I know I should try other things on the menu, but it will be hard not to order the "catfish" (mushrooms) again. It's big flavors in a little strip mall.

The Soul I was missing - Edit
Stopped in for dinner and ended up getting a bunch of extra for the family. Didn’t take too long for my order, but it was placed ahead of time for pick up. Loved everything and so did the family.

Long wait, expensive, incorrect, sub-par - Edit
I want so badly to love this place but every time I’ve gone I waited 30-40 mins for my food. I went this weekend and only ordered 2 milkshakes and fried pickles. It cost $25 and took 40 mins even though there was only one person before me. The milk shakes were very thin (melted?) and weren’t the flavors I ordered (but I wasn’t going to wait another 40 mins for them to remake them), the pickles were all clumped together and tasted burned and they don’t come with a dipping sauce. The cookie topping on the outside of the to go cups tasted like cleaning supplies — I’m not sure putting things on the outside of plastic cups is a good idea, anyway. I felt like I wasted my time and money. I tried reaching out on insta about my experience but didn’t get a response.

Very tasty! - Edit
I got the Nana’s Soul so I could try the maximum amount of stuff. I ordered the mushroom/fried chicken and my friend ordered the jackfruit ribs. Both were delicious.

The ribs were amazing. The shakes, loaded fries, and mac and cheese were all pretty good. Would eat here again.

Amazing vegan soul food - Edit
This place is delicious! I ordered the Nana’s Soul XL so I could try everything. The mac & cheese is creamy, the collard greens are tasty, the baked beans are full of flavor, and the fried chick’n (mushrooms) feels like a fried guilty pleasure. My least favorite were the wangz aka cauliflower. Not terrible by any means, but not as delicious as the rest of the items. My FAVORITE is the rib. It pulls apart like meat and has a wonderful smoky flavor. Who needs to eat animals when soul food can taste this great without them!!

Pretty good - Edit
Overall experience was good. Place was clean, not too busy with some chill music playing. Menu and photos looked great. They make their chik’n patties in house and same with their “ribs” made from jackfruit. Some of the other items use impossible patties but I had to ask to figure that out. Wish they would just be up front about it.
Read moreThe food itself was decent. Someone wrote about the baked beans in another review and I can confirm they indeed slap. I got the soul plate with “prime rib” and that was really well done but the sides were just okay besides the beans. It’s a bit pricey for the portion size. The Chik’n sandwich was good too, and I’d probably get that again.

Small restaurant with counter service and great food! We were greeted by Nana, she was so sweet, friendly and very kind to our children. I especially loved the ribs and cookies and cream shake. My kids would not stop talking about how much they loved the Mac and cheese and can’t wait to go back!

Vegan southern food - Edit
The place is a little hidden, it’s at the corner of the plaza in case you can’t find it.
Read moreI ordered the Nana’s Soul, which came with mac n cheez, collard greens, cornbread, baked beans, and fried vegan chicken. Everything was great…. Except for the vegan chicken. I know some of the other vegans might judge me for this but I’m a big fan of fake meat, especially chicken, but this just wasn’t it. Turns out the “chicken” is just deep fried mushrooms. I typically like mushrooms, but the flavor and texture was just off-putting, and definitely not reminiscent of anything chicken.
I would be willing to give it another shot, even if it is just to satisfy my occasional collard greens cravings, but I did leave a bit disappointed this time around. #Veganuary

Best thing I have ever eaten.. - Edit
Omg!!! This food is so amazing. I couldn’t stop smiling while I was eating it. Everything on the menu looked fantastic, so the hardest part about eating here is narrowing it down. But, more reason to visit again and again😄I can’t wait for my next visit here. Highly recommend eating here!! It’s worth every penny and more

From the East Coast - Edit
This was my first stop on my trip Phoenix because I had found them on Instagram. They did not disappoint. My partner got the Chicken Parm sub which he did not love because he hates mushrooms, but he ate most of it which says a lot because typically he would’ve just slid it my way and ordered something different. I also don’t love mushrooms because I overdid it when I first went vegan and I still enjoyed the sub. I got the seafood boil which he then ate most of as well 😂 and still mentions a weeks later. It is a tiny spot, but when I was there the locals were very nice and welcoming- probably the nicest people we came across in Arizona. They were raving about the cheesecake which I wish I tried.

Not my cup of tea but I’m excited for everyone else - Edit
I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while because it’s got such good reviews.
Read moreTo start the woman at the register was lovely and super nice. I’m excited this place exists because I think this food could appeals to a lot of people both vegan and non but I’m just not a fan of BBQ or sweet food in general so this restaurant probably isn’t for me. However I’m excited for those who do love bbq like my husband who enjoyed the meal. He loved the ribs and I liked my Mac and cheese. I could understand why the reviews are so good but just not my pallet I guess.
I’m rooting for this restaurant to keep doing well though!
Pros: Authentic southern food, Vegan ribs, Super nice staff
Cons: Decor seems more homemade, Uses all plastic cutlery

Wow impressive! - Edit
Brought my mom here for her birthday lunch . The orange cycle cream cake was a great way to end the lunch. I had the Buffalo Chikn hoagie with fries the chikn/ cauliflower was perfectly breaded and the white drizzle idk what it was but it was soo good. My mom had the Nanas soul plate with ribs and extra beans as they had run out of the greens. It was very much to her liking as well. This was my first time trying Soul food and I’m happy it was here at Nanas Kitchen

Disappointing - Edit
My first visit I enjoyed the cauliflower tacos and they closely resembled the menu photo. However, every visit since has been a disappointment.
Read moreTo give some examples, one order had a yucky sauce on the side which had spilled and completely drenched the bread for the cheesesteak.
Another time I arrived a few minutes early to pick up a to go order. There were two couples ahead of me in line, but it was a 15 min wait. By that time, my food was cold. Two tacos were just the cauliflower and a runny green sauce, without the other toppings. The liquid (not sure what it was - not the sauce) had soaked completely thru one of the tortillas. The others were soggy.

Good vegan comfort food - Edit
I did enjoy the quick and filling comfort food from here. I am very impressed with their cauliflower wings. I got to try the three versions and they were great. The preparation of the cauliflower is very good for their dishes. Good Cajun seasoning amounts. For a comfortable, quick meal of comfort food, good choice.

Made for carry out - Edit
The food is great, but that’s pretty much the only great thing about our experience. They have a tablet for you to order off of, which is fine, but it was our first time so we had some questions and wanted some recommendations, so not having someone readily available was disappointing. We also discovered that what they have on their menu above the order counter doesn’t match what is actually available to order via the tablet, so several of us had to find something else once we went to order. They have water available, but it doesn’t have ice so it is warm, and the cups are small plastic cups.
Read moreWhen the food came out any sides and sauces were in plastic to go containers and the silverware was plastic as well. They also only gave us a small piece of paper towel for a napkin, for the whole table.
I can tell they do a lot of carry out, and they seem to cater to that more so than dining in.
Pros: All vegan, Delicious food, Caters to carry out
Cons: All plastic silverware and containers , Warm water with small plastic cups, Not set up well for dining in

Delicious nostalgia - Edit
I’ve loved every dish I’ve tried there, but the Nana’s Soul plate is my favorite. The gumbo, burgers, and fries are excellent as well. Although the menu is modern for plant based palates, the vibe of the restaurant is nostalgic in a positive way.
