Not bad, but… - Edit
Vegan since 1977. Thrilled to see vegan restaurants making their mark. As for Planta Bethesda, I can’t honestly say that I share the praise given by so many. I will preface by saying that I may be harsher on them than on others because of the price point. Three people, $130 with tip, is not a cheap outing. So, first the service: it was okay. They were nice, but not great. More importantly the food. Of the six items we ordered, I would say two were exceptional, two were fine, and two were acceptable. On the acceptable end of the scale was the pizza. The dough was good, the toppings were okay. Again, I’m being picky. The dragon sushi? Fine, not amazing. I’ve had much more exciting for much less. The cheesecake? Really good, in fact better than, but not ‘New York’ cheesecake. Not the same size, not the same richness. This one was more delicate and tasty than a NY Cheesecake. In this case, I would change the name, not the recipe. The cappuccino… blah. Again, for the price and the location, give me something that wows me a little bit more, maybe some more froth, a design, some whipped cream maybe (my Italian wife disapproves). I live literally around the corner so I will go back one or two more times and order different items to see if I am blown away. Again, for the price, I do not think I’m asking too much. And before you ask, yes, in 45 years of being vegan, I have eaten ‘blown away’ vegan recipes. I’ll close by saying, if you’re okay with the price, you will definitely enjoy yourself, it’s really not bad. But it’s not yet, IMHO, amazing, and I really want it to be.

They do it right - Edit
Wow! First of all, the restaurant is beautiful. Very cool decor, not very many vegan joints like this. The unagi eggplant nigiri was one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten. Unagi is something I miss from my non-vegan days. This wasn't an exact match for the real unagi, but it was something else just as amazing. My friend had the Habibi bowl and that also blew our minds. It had falafel, but the flavor and texture was heavenly. An elevated version of the falafel you get from your fave takeout place. This is a must visit if you are in the Bethesda area. Do not miss out!

Upscale vegan dining in the DMV - Edit
Our party of four especially enjoyed the Bang Bang Broccoli appetizer. The sushi platter we shared was ok, but the wasabi and ginger were really tiny. The Planta burger and pizzas were quite good as well. We also shared a very nice bottle of Argentine Malbec.
Read moreWait staff were very attentive and helped us decide on some dishes.
For dessert, our party shared the cherry cheesecake, a brownie with housemade ice cream and giant chocolate chip cookie. The first two were very good, the cookie, just so-so.
As far as cost, we did find Planta to be on the pricey side, around $100/couple before tip.
Pros: Large portions , Friendly wait staff
Cons: Pricey

Planta is a wonderful vegan option in the DMV. Great service, great food. - Edit
I liked the waiter, the food he recommended was great and the drink menu is fantastic. The indoor seating is nice and the patio is serviceable. Good for people watching. Planta is as good as the Fancy Radish, possibly better.

Delicious, eclectic food in Bethesda - Edit
After dining at Planta locations in Toronto and Miami Beach, I was thrilled that one came to the DC area. Right in the heart of Bethesda Row, an eclectic collection of shops and restaurants, is Planta Bethesda, a bright, airy space. I've been to this location a couple of times, and three other locations once. The service is friendly and the atmosphere just shy of upscale. If I get to choose my last meal, the Bao Sliders would surely be part of it. It's a pillow of dough wrapped around a crispy fried mushroom, cucumber, and drizzles of hoisin and a creamy sauce. Seriously, it's really amazing. However, since each order is only one bao, you'll have to order one for each person at the table who wants one.
Read morePlanta also has various sushi dishes, and I'm a huge fan of the inari. On a prior visit I had the Spaghettini alla Carbonara (with mushroom "bacon") and loved it. My boyfriend and I also loved the Baby Gem Caesar salad. While a beautiful Instagram-worthy dish, the Avocado Lime Tartare was not my favorite (my boyfriend did enjoy it), but I did like the Tomato Tartare, which made me think of an Italian restaurant. (Yes, the food selections are quite eclectic.)
In addition to cocktails, Planta also has drinks with zero-proof libations and a selection of juices. The Easy Being Green felt so healthy and had the slightest kick from the ginger.
I know I will have to try one of the pizzas on my next visit.
Pros: Delicious food, Good service
Cons: A bit expensive

This is a really great restaurant for a date night, the sushi was incredibly well made. The funghi salad was also a big hit. The portions were also surprisingly generous for a more upscale place.

They have a very nice variety of menu options. There were three of us so I got to try the crab dip, the bam bam broccoli, the mushroom pizza, the spicy tuna sushi (not spicy), the beet/ tuna stack and the brownie with ice cream. All fantastic. Love to have options and they def provide them.

10/10 Plant Based food - Edit
Planta is single handedly one of the best plant based restaurants I have been to. Everything on the menu has quality taste and ingredients to match presentation. The setting of planta is fine dining with outdoor seating available.I can’t say anything bad about any item on the menu. Highlights are the sushi and pizza. Bang bang broccoli is insanely good and the carbonara is the best vegan pasta I’ve tasted.

This place SLAPS - Edit
This is the only expensive restaurant I think is worth the price tbh. All dishes are served easily shareable.
Read moreThe dessert can very much be skipped imo. Overpriced for what it is.
I love love LOVE the carbonara and the palm crab dip. My partner likes the pizza (more of an oven fired bread with toppings than pizza imo, but it is some very good bread).

Cons: Desserts are $10+ and not great, Busy, Expensive

Excellent menu with large variety across different cuisines. Very decent portion sizes. The Habibi Bowl was excellent and so were the Dragon Rolls. The PLANTA burger was delicious as was the chocolate brownie dessert and the peach/lychee/vanilla swirl ice cream. Service was excellent.

Great vegan restaurant - Edit
Great selections, perfectly prepared and very filling. We went with friends who are not vegan but allergic to fish and were so excited to eat the sushi because normally it is cross contaminated even if vegetarian. We are vegans and eat here whenever we can.

Yummmmmmm - Edit
This is one of the few upscale vegan places in the DC area, and its worth the hike to Bethesda. Cool 60s-mod ambiance and super friendly staff. Make a reservation because it gets very busy for dinner. The menu feels a bit unfocused with an assortment of dishes from sushi to pasta, but everything looked great. For apps, we tried the bao buns (excellent) and the crab dip. The crab dip was good but a little underwhelming. For mains we had the Bianca and Hawaiian pizzas, which were both excellent. The cocktails were also beautiful and tasty. Would come back!!!

Perfect vegan spot - Edit
We were so excited to try this new vegan restaurant! First off, it’s a beautiful place. The interior of the restaurant is classy without being stuffy and has a gorgeous design. The service was amazing and the meal was well timed out. PLANTA finally nailed it for an upscale vegan restaurant that still makes delicious food and doesn’t worry about fancy plating.
Read moreWe tried the bang bang broccoli, cauliflower tots, chickn mushroom salad, carbonara, and brownie with ice cream.
My favorite had to be the bang bang broccoli. The crispy texture was incredible and the peanut sauce was super flavorful. The salad was surprisingly delicious (don’t skip the salads!). The only thing we weren’t crazy about was the pasta carbonara as it had a coconut flavor that was a little too strong. The warm brownie with ice cream and fudge sauce was decadent and soul-warming.
The cocktails were also very good🍾
We can’t wait to return and try the pizzas!
Pros: Classy atmosphere , Delicious food
Cons: Sparkling water costs $8.50
