Always a good meal here - Edit
I visited Planta Queen while on a trip to Chicago and it was just as good as the Planta Queen I normally go to in NYC. Great vegan sushi and nice atmosphere. I had a volcano roll which was a seasonal special and it was amazing, I wish it was offered year round. It is an avocado roll topped with spicy “crab” (hearts of palm) and

Had the Firecracker roll, Bang Bang Broccoli, and corn dumplings. All were delicious. My only regret was that I wasn’t hungry enough to have more.

I have a deep emotional attachment to this restaurant. I cried over matcha raspberry cheesecake. The truffle udon makes me feel at home. I have to eat here every time I visit Chicago. Nothing warms my heart more and it blows my mind that this place is completely vegan.

Upscale vegan - Edit
We have been to another Planta restaurant in Toronto and we thought that was outstanding. The one in Chicago was ok. I expected more. We order the Dan Dan noodles. Starts being delicious but then there’s a tingly sensation that just put us off. Then we order the dragon roll. It was good. The firecrackers roll was ok. The crispy rice was good. Might give this restaurant another try and order something else.

Amazing taste! - Edit
We are visiting Chicago and found this place! Loved the indoor seating and decor on this hot day! We got the Queen Caesar and Avocado Lime Tartare. My husband isn’t vegan and he LOVED the taste of both. The beets were so fresh as was the avocado. Taro chips weren’t greasy and paired so well with the avocado lime tartare. And the mushroom bacon on the Caesar was wonderfully smokey!

Mind Blowing Deliciousness - Edit
Such an amazing culinary experience! This was an indulgence on a trip to the city and I will absolutely be back. The menu was comprehensive and entirely plant based. It was wonderful having so many vegan options that were also rich in flavor and healthy. They have clearly mastered the art of food in their kitchen.
Read moreHighly recommend making reservations on the weekend - thankfully we did and we were able to be seated immediately despite the restaurant being packed. Despite how busy it was the service was quick and precise.
Pretty sure this food changed my life and although it is a bit on the expensive side (for me) it is entirely worth it.
Pros: Lots of options, Healthy, So so so delicious!
Cons: Expensive , Need reservations

Cold, partially uncooked, poor service - Edit
Make sure it is properly cooked and the correct temperature. Our rice wasn’t cooked properly. So we had to wait for the new rice to arrive. By the time it did our main dishes were cold. We were treated as inconveniences.

Tasty with Good Service - Edit
My husband and I were passing through Chicago on our way to an Indiana wedding and stopped in at Planta for a delicious meal.
Read moreWe had several shared items, including the portobello tataki, watermelon ahi nigiri, and ended up getting a free order of bang bang broccoli and then the thousand layer potatoes accidentally instead of the chicken slider bao that we'd ordered, but it was really delicious anyway! The watermelon ahi was something I had heard of and hadn't gotten to try before, so that was fun, but it's a very thin slice of the "ahi" and mostly rice. The portobello tataki was wonderful, being both simple and an excellent flavor combination, and the bang bang broccoli was crispy and spicy--I can see why it's a popular item. As a big potato fan, I really loved the thousand layer potatoes, and could probably eat way too many of them.
For our entrees I got the garlic chili tofu and my husband originally got the Dan Dan noodles without realizing that the szechuan kamut listed is the szechuan peppercorns he dislikes (it's apparently very numbing for him, but just tingly for me), and was able to switch to the Thai lettuce wraps after speaking to our server, which was really kind of them, but I am kicking myself for not sampling the Dan Dan noodles myself before he sent them away with the server... The garlic chili tofu was good, although the yuba was on the thicker side more like fu zu than I was expecting and I think I would have expected a bit more seasoning or at least some browning on the tofu. I appreciated the whole shiitake mushroom caps in the dish. Husband liked the lettuce wraps much better, although he did say the Dan Dan noodles had good texture/chew and I think he would have liked it if it hadn't included the szechuan peppercorns.
The location itself is very trendy in decor and the waitstaff is very nice and accommodating. They don't validate parking (we parked in the Greenway garage in the same building), but they did suggest a store nearby that might do validation (we didn't go, though). This seems like a nice date spot!
Pros: Delicious Food, Trendy Upscale Decor
Cons: Expensive

Read moreThe service sucks since the new manager joined the team. And it’s weird how she’s always sitting on her laptop in one of the dining areas instead of observing the restaurant. I’ve also found two hairs in my food the last two times I’ve been here… gross!

Used to be great - Edit
For a long time this was one of, if not my favorite vegan restaurant in Chicago. However, it seems to be going downhill. I’ve had issues with my orders the last few visits and service has gotten much worse. Always having to ask for water refills, unable to find waiter, and there is a weird pow-wow happening with the higher ups every visit. Just sitting in the corner, not helping or watching, just chilling on phones.

Just Wow! - Edit
We tried to get reservations over their website on a Monday night and couldn’t. So we went and took our chances. Monday night is Monday Maki (rolls are $8) and the place was jam-packed. We sat outside which was actually perfect. We ordered dishes to share: Crispy Rice roll which was my ultimate favorite; Firecracker Roll which I thought was just okay. It was better with the dunk sauce; Thai Lettuce Wraps which were really interesting and good; and lastly, my second favorite: the Avocado Lime Tartare which came with yucca chips. So yummy!

Total hit with my coworkers - Edit
I suggested Planta Queen for our team dinner while visiting Chicago for a conference. We had 15 people so we made reservations last week, and they were able to accommodate us with a fixed menu. They served us all the hits, including the torched and pressed roll, my favorite. My team, who are all omnivores, raved about how good it was.

Didn't eat at this location per se but it looks like and has a very similar menu to the Toronto Planta Queen location, so named because it's on Queen Street! This one has outdoor seating though, so win!

One of the fanciest restaurants around here. Great selection of shareable dishes. I strongly recommend the bang bang broccoli and summer rolls. I'm surely coming back on Mondays for their AYCE Maki Monday (after 5). Amazing service and great vibe.

More upscale - Edit
The food was great. My only con was that it took too long to bring food out, for example they brought my husbands entree out and mine came like 20 minutes after his and he had finished eating and we’d been sat there for a while. To be fair, it was a Saturday night and we showed up with no reservations. They brought us a sushi roll to make up for the delayed timing. They did this without us complaining about the wait! I appreciate the service and attention to this issue. I’m not sure if it’s typical for them to bring 1 entree out before the other or if it was due to the reasons I just mentioned. The food was delicious and I’d recommend going there! Probably best to make reservations a few days ahead.
