Lovely Venezuelan restaurant with vegan and veg options!

Pomarosa is an adorable Venezuelan cafe in Toronto's east end with a handful of solid vegan options. Try the Pabellón Vegan! It's an arepa (corn-based flat bread) stuffed with a substantial amount of black beans, plantains, avocado, and a green sauce called guasacaca. They can also make the Flores (hibiscus and cauliflower arepa) vegan by omitting the cheese. There's also a vegan black bean and plantain empanada if you're looking for a small snack or an appetizer.

While there aren't a huge amount of vegan options, I appreciate that what they do have is clearly labelled on the menu and tastes great! Vegetarians have several additional options to choose from.

Very expensive for mediocre food

I went there to pick up a sandwich last week. I understand it is during covid. Their sandwiches are very expensive and very small. $12 plus tax for a sandwich the size of an Egg McMuffin. Not exaggerating . The Taste was nothing special. Over price for under valued food. I don't understand what people are raving about.

Pros: Cute place

Cons: Very expensive, Small sandwich for $12

So tasty!

I recently discovered this place in the East end, and I love it! They have two arepas that offer a vegan option, the Domino and the Flores. I tried the Domino the first time, and it was really good, but the Flores (pictured above-- Hibiscus flowers and cauliflower picadillo!) is delicious and unique! They have vegan mayo, and are very understanding and accommodating of my vegan request. I was also super happy, as I can't eat gluten, and the 'bun' part is made with cornmeal, so naturally gluten-free. The space is super cute, a soft pink colour, and so bright and welcoming on a sunny day! I also spotted a turmeric latte on the menu, though I didn't try it yet. Would definitely recommend checking it out!

Pros: Delicious, unique food, Many gluten-free options, Knowledgable owners
