Poptata Misses the Mark with Overwhelmingly Sweet Fries

I’m a big fan of fries and have tried many varieties from shoe string to boiled and fried, fries. When I saw Poptata had loaded vegan fries I was excited to try them.

Poptata is situated in the first floor of Box Park. Seating is plentiful inside of Boxpark with tables and bar stools overlooking the street.

I ordered the Jack loaded fries for €8.95 which is fairly pricy. Staff here were ok but not super friendly. The fries came out quick and they use a buzzer system which alerts you when to pick up your food.

Immediately I noticed that the cheese was not melted. The BBQ jackfruit was heavy and overpowered everything with the taste of sugar and tomato. The dish was so sweet I could have confused it for a dessert. The fries were not very crispy or well seasoned.

Poptata could improve by making the fries more crispy (possibly using a thinner slice), reducing the sugar in the sauce, melting the cheese, and adding more flavor to the fries such as umami. Until improvements are made I would not return here.
