Good and fresh - Edit
I ordered the taco salad and it was delicious. I was quite pleased with the serving size. It was filling. However, the next time I order it I will ask for more cheez. I wonder if it will be extra.
Read morePros: Good atmosphere , Fresh salad, Great service
Cons: I think all veg restaurants are a lil pricey, but, A lot of times they make stuff from scratch.

Consistently Outstanding - Edit
The Root Cafe is my one stop shop for great coffee and amazing vegan foods. The bakery is always fresh perfectly created. The diverse menu includes many vegan options that make my life so much more convenient. The staff is eclectic, kind, and always fun! Don't come for the 1st time if you are in a hurry, this is not fast food!

Just OK - Edit
I think that The Root Cafe is Cleveland's version of Oakland's Timeless but not as good. The Root Cafe is an all vegetarian cafe with many vegan options. The place was packed when I arrived for brunch on a Saturday morning, which tells me this is a really popular place for locals to hang out in the Cleveland area. It's very eclectic and quirky, which was right up my alley. Plus, cute latte art!

I ordered the Quadratic Calzone. I wasn't blown away with the calzone as a whole but the bread they used was delicious.
If you are just visiting the area, I would say go to Cleveland Vegan for your meal and Duck Rabbit for your coffee instead.

Delicious Vegan Offerings - Edit
A cute little coffee shop cafe with a full vegetarian menu. Most items can easily be made vegan upon request. The prices are resonable and the food is worth the stop.

Homemade and organic - Edit
I have been coming here since they opened, and for years before when they owned The Phoenix next door. I love the Root. It is a haven for vegans (and vegetarians, and omnivores for that matter)! All of the food is delicious, but I particularly love the Hoffman's Bicycle Pizza. The dough is handmade fresh daily. All the ingredients used are fresh, and most are organic and local. Coffees and teas are fair trade, and delicious. Their chocolate syrup is homemade and vegan, as is their almond milk. I love their Iced Almond Milk Mocha. The atmosphere is very chill, and the whole place is one beautiful work of art. I highly recommend stopping by any time of day.

Thursday raw food night - Edit
My boyfriend, Jim, and I had their raw food specisls tonight for dinner. Salad, entrées and desert. Everything was delicious! I do feel that their regular, daily menu is getting a little old and we have not been there for a while. I wanted to go specifically for the raw food night and I was very happy that we did!

What a Dream - Edit
Traveling across the country on I-80, I took a detour to check this place out. It was worth the extra effort. Their coffee and tea selections are out of this world. It puts Starbucks to shame. They don't start serving food till 11am. To my delight, the food menu is super vegan-friendly. For example, these are their sandwich selections:
Read morecold sandwiches-
1) sharp cheddar, basil pesto & tomato
2) roasted garlic hummos and vegetables
3) roasted veggies, irish sharp cheddar & hummos
4) beets, rosemary, goat cheese, spinach & caramelized onions
5) tempeh, chipotle aioli, pesto, tomato & spinach
6) TLT: tempeh, romaine lettuce, tomato and chipotle aioli
hot sandwiches-
Clevo sandwich - a hot, open face sandwich with hummos, spinach, rosemary & mushrooms $7 with cheese $9
Devo Sandwich- a hot, open face sandwich with organic romaine, fresh tomato, basil & caramelized onion $6 with cheese $8
They even have a vegan calzone! As for bakery items, they'll have like ONE vegan muffin, ONE vegan cookie, so you won't go home hungry but it'd be nice if they'd expand the vegan bakery options.
They have brunch on Sundays from 9a-1p. I'd love it if on other days they at least had oatmeal (with all the toppings) available in the mornings.
Highly recommended!

Excellent Pizza! - Edit
We had the root pizza. OH WOW! Dont think i have ever had a pizza no cheese. This was over the top! We were traveling through Cleveland on a business trip and found The Root Cafe here on Happy Cow. It was well worth the bus ride from downtown to Lakewood! Easy access from the 26 route. For the goodie I had the carrot cake/muffin and hubby had the cream cheese brownie! The iced teas were incredible too! Great prices! Good food! I highly recommend this place!
