A Divine Gift To All Vegetarians :
✨ Five Divine Principles for Spiritual Awakening
1. Do Not Repeat Sinful Actions
Avoid repeating any wrongdoings committed in the past. This is the first step toward purifying the soul.
2. Offer Complete Surrender at the Feet of the Divine
Chant the sacred mantra "Om Anandamaya Om Shantimaya" continuously and with deep focus. Let this mantra be woven into all your noble actions—offering even your daily tasks, from morning to night, to the Divine with selfless intent.
3. Consume Pure Vegetarian Food and Drink
Do not prepare meals by taking the life of birds or animals. Practice seeing the Divine presence in every living being and substance.
4. Study the Bhagavad Gita Daily
Read and reflect on at least 7–10 verses each day, along with their meanings. Pay special attention to these verses:
- Chapter 2: Verses 7 and 48
- Chapter 7: Verses 4 and 5
- Chapter 9: Verse 22
- Chapter 12: Verse 8
5. Observe Complete Celibacy Before Marriage
Live a disciplined life after marriage. This is essential for inner stability and spiritual growth.
🌺 Special Note
If you chant the divine mantra "Om Anandamaya Om Shantimaya", you are truly blessed. This mantra was bestowed directly by the Lord upon the enlightened Brahmapadadhish Mahapurush, Param Pujya Shri Anand Yogi Anandamaya Ji during divine revelation. Its purpose is the supreme welfare of those whose hearts are filled with devotion to God.

Good vegan dosas - Edit
Tasty vegan food - can recommend dosas and idli fries. If speaking English, communicate clearly that you don't want ghee, milk etc.

Great Vegan Experience - Edit
We had a great experience at the Sagar Ratna restaurant near Connaught Place.
Read moreThe service was excellent, the restaurant, despite where it was located, was quiet and peaceful and the food was really enjoyable and well priced ! There were plenty of vegan options on the menu and the serving staff were very helpful (notwithstanding they really don’t understand what is and isn’t vegan food LOL).
Happy to recommend this restaurant to fellow vegans.
Pros: Food quality and quantity , Ambiance , Service
Cons: Misunderstanding, what is and is vegan?

Excellent Indian food! - Edit
I am so impressed with this restaurant. I am solo travelling through India and felt very relaxed and comfortable to dine in. Staff were very friendly and service fantastic. I ordered a mixed vegetable uttapam which I was certain had egg in it for texture but it is lentil batter! Delicious. And I also had a vege biryani, which is rice done so well. Many dips on side, which were all vegan except raita. Highly recommend this place.

Delicious but double check it’s vegan - Edit
The Southern India thali was recommended by the waiter for us after we said no dairy or egg. It came out with two dishes that upon asking had dairy that we removed from the platter right away. Everything else was delicious! Very nice staff. Clean, comfortable space.

Decent scran and reasonable price - Edit
I had a South Indian thali which was 260rupees - before I ordered I asked what was vegan and I got a blank face. There is a pretty extensive menu but I opted for the South Indian thali, which seemed all vegan when it came, apart from the curd and possibly the desert. I ate them anyway but suppose they could easily be not included. I thought it was tasty and filling. I don't think it was unlimited, but I had enough anyway and so I left pretty happy.

Lovely little spot - Edit
A great find. Quiet when we went in but soon was busy not long after. Make sure you tell them if you're vegan and ask which meals are suitable for you. Very helpful and friendly staff. Place very clean and light.

Great South & North Indian, fairly vegan-friendly - Edit
Sagar Ratna is a dependable lacto-vegetarian restaurant chain serving high-quality South and North Indian dishes. Good food, good service, fair prices, and tasteful decor (nice but not overdone). Fresh juices too. We've been to the Connaught Place location many dozens of times, and it's consistently good on all counts.
Read moreUnlike many other Indian lacto-veg spots, Sagar Ratna is vegan-friendly in the sense of being both happy and competent to accommodate requests for "no cheese, no butter, no cream," etc., and in our experience they've always executed the special orders correctly - they've never served us dairy products, so as vegans we appreciate that greatly (and if you have allergies or lactose intolerance, you will too). Just politely communicate very clearly and you should get exactly what you ordered.
Especially recommended:
- Paalak (spinach), which is particularly tasty here and can be done vegan by requesting "plain paalak without paneer, butter, ghee, or cream."
- Mushroom masala (be forewarned: it's spicy and relatively rich)
- Tandoori roti (they're big, so 2 is plenty to polish off a single serving of your veggie dish of choice)
- Fresh fruit juices - try the mosammi juice (a.k.a. "sweet lime," though it's not in fact a lime; it's an orange-sized fruit with a taste somewhere between orange and lime, or thereabouts).
The only thing we've had that we found subpar was the tomato soup (not terrible, but below average).
Until Delhi gets an all-vegan, organic restaurant (one can hope, right?), Sagar Ratna will continue to get a lot of our business.
UPDATE - JAN 2013
Sagar Ratna continues to deliver great food and vegan-friendly service. We're impressed that the same high standard has been upheld for so long.
We notice another reviewer believes he got sick from eating here, which we find surprising because we've eaten here 100+ times and never been sick. Having lived and worked in India more than 11 years, we can attest that in fact it's very difficult to pinpoint the source of one's illness because many disease-causing organisms take between 24 hours and 4 weeks to germinate, so when one gets sick it's rarely the case that the last meal you ate is the one responsible. It's nearly impossible to be sure, so while it may be true that the reviewer got sick at Sagar Ratna, the odds are against it. Even if it were true, it seems like a fluke because the place is very clean. We wouldn't want others to be scared away from one of Delhi's best options.
Pros: Reasonably vegan-friendly, Good food and service, Well priced for the quality

Not recommended - Edit
Ate here based on another review and spent the next 4 days in bed with diarrhoea and vomiting. We explained we were vegan and what we could and couldn't eat, they said they understood and pointed out meals we could eat, however one came with cheese on top. We sent it back and they brought another out. Out of everyone traveling in our group, the only people who became violently ill, were those who had only eaten here.
