Honest, good, delightful

We wandered over to this small restaurant not knowing what to expect during our first time in the area. We were surprised to discover this tiny dumpling shop which is a diamond in the rough!

When we arrived we were immediately asked if we were vegetarian; specified vegan (no egg). We ordered the 750 yen set meal which comes with 5 assorted dumplings, rice, soup, and one dish. The dumplings were amazing and you can immediately tell they're homemade.

I should mention that the seating area is very narrow so it would be difficult for parties greater than 2 people. There are 6 total seats.

Overall, one of our least expensive yet most satisfying meals during our 2-week travel in Japan!

Pros: Open late (11pm), Extensive vegan/vegetarian options

Cons: Limited seating

Amazing!

As soon as we walked in the owner asked if we were vegan! so handy as sometimes explaining is difficult. We had the set meal and it was delicious really recommend it. The price was reasonable as well. The locals who frequent the place are very friendly too!

Pros: Filled you up with home made goodness

Cons: It serves meat too so that's always a downer

so glad I came!

wonderful Taiwanese set meal consisted of vegetable gyoza (I forgot to specify vegan so these may have been cooked with egg, please do ask of you go!) and a sort of mock meat soy chicken which fortunately tasted nothing like chicken and was delicious with rice. tiny place but just how I like it!

Tasty dumplings

Found this place with the Happy Cow app and decided to give it a try. It's tiny and unassuming (seats only six people at a time!) but the dumplings are all handmade from scratch and quite tasty. The owner is very friendly and speaks excellent English. The vegetarian set (make sure to specify no egg) came with rice, pickles, ginger soup, stir-fried veggies, 5 large dumplings and dipping sauce. If you're in a hurry and want something quick, filling, and inexpensive, this hits the spot.

Fantastic Place!

This tiny restaurant is owned by such a sweet and welcoming Taiwanese lady. She speaks very good English and has a good understanding of what it means to be vegetarian and vegan.

My sister and I both ordered the set dinner, which came with a plate of handmade gyoza along with a simple stir-fry, rice, a bowl of soup and a cup of Taiwanese tea. At only 750 yen, it's excellent value for money.

The food was delicious and we felt so welcomed and cared for. We were asked what our preferences were (e.g. spicy or mild), and then our meal was lovingly cooked to order.

We both loved our meal here and can't wait to come back next time we are in Tokyo. I would give this place 5 stars if I could!

Ok

This is a very very small spot, it accomodates aroung 6 people so its really more like a shop not a restaurant or bar. I expected something different...
Also, the interior doesn't look good, everything seems dirty
and rather 'poor'.
The lady who cooks and serves the food is lovely. We waited about 15 min for our set but that's fine-she prepares all by herself. The set contains of rice, miso, omlette (if you eat eggs), veggies and 5 gyoza. It's average to be honest.
I wouldn't visit again.

Pros: LOVELY stuff, take out possible

Cons: interior-seems dirty, very small

Hidden gem!

What a relief to find this place through this site, and just around the corner from where I was staying at the sakura hotel. They do a lot of "mock" meats which really concerned me to begin with when I saw the mock bacon (which looked similar to quorn bacon in england but I thought surely not here in Tokyo??), but they assured me it was not meat and was actually seaweed based, which was backed up by my meat eating friends saying it didnt have the taste or texture of meat and turned out quite nice, they also made me a vege friendly vegetable bowl of soup, I ended up ordering more of the dumplings for my lunch the next day before I left! She has run the shop for 10 years now and has had lots of vege customers so understands our requirements, also asking me if I ate egg which helped convince me there would not be hidden meat or fish, worth dropping in!

Pros: Good range of dumplings, Seem to understand vegetarian diet, Cheap!

Cons: Tight, support group of maybe 3 if empty, Hard to spot

A Taste of Taiwan in Tokyo

This tiny restaurant (only 3 tables!) was easy to find and very welcoming!! They have an a la carte menu but it's just as easy to order the vegetarian set. One of the owners suggested it to us and we were very pleased with the amount of food, the selection of Taiwanese veggie dishes and the price! Highly recommended for a very small group of people, or they have all menu options available for take away.

Pros: Big quantity of food in the sets, Great prices , Friendly environment

Cons: Small dining space

Lovely welcoming fare...

Having been a bit apprehensive about trying to get by in Japan as a veggie, I have been quite surprised at the variety and choice. Also we have had a local translator at hand to guide us through a myriad of confusing characters in the alphabet. However tonight was my first foray into the culinary world under our own steam. Following the Happy Cow recommendation, we headed for Senjo Handmade Gyoza Shop. What a surprise it was. A small room, divided by a partition, tiny kitchen on one side, and a "corridor" of a room seating 5 or 6 in a line on the other. Two lovely ladies, with enough English to explain the menu to us, presented us with a handcrafted meal of several courses, each with tantalising flavour and aroma. My 2 (meat eating) colleagues shared the same starter dishes, but had a carnivorous option when it came to the dumpling course. An egg fried rice dish and some delicious ginger soup finished off the meal.
Apparently the menu continually changes, and we were carefully checked as to our dietary preferences.
We felt like spoilt children, each dish being carefully presented to us to enjoy with the enthusiasm of a cook sharing their recipes with us.
The staff were as keen to take our picture as we we were to take theirs, and we left after paying a very reasonable price, with a feeling of a satisfied stomach and a contented heart.
We will definitely go back!

Pros: Excellent, freshly prepared food, Very friendly and helpful staff, "part of the family" atmosphere

Cons: Wouldn't suit a large group

cheapest vegetarian you'll find in Tokyo

I found this place on http://www.vege-navi.jp, a website for veg/vegan/veg-friendly restaurants in Japan. The shop the only place that serves veg food in a predominantly Chinese neighborhood. The sign is in Japanese only: 篠線手打餃子専門店. Look for a very small shop with only a few tables and many pictures on the wall. I have visited there for lunch and dinner. 2 lunch sets are available: 1 for 750 yen and another for 1000. I had the 750 yen one and portions were sufficient. It included 6, large handmade vegetarian gyoza dumplings, soup, pickles, and main dish of sweet and sour "pork" made with fake meat. The owner said the dumpling sauce is homemade with Chinese medicinal herbs and had a cinnamon-like spice to it, which I loved. For dinner, they have vegetarian a la carte items or you can request a course which starts from 1800 yen. Tell the owner what you like and she'll prepare things to your liking. All in all, the food was very good and lovingly made-to-order not to mention the cheapest veg meal I've found so far in Tokyo. I'll definitely be back. They serve over 30 types of dumplings, some of which appear to contain only plant ingredients, but I only had 1 type so I can't confirm. The food in general does not appear to contain egg or dairy items so it *may* be suitable for vegans but you would have to confirm this with the owner.

Pros: VERY reasonable, owner can speak some English, homestyle veg Chinese

Cons: hard to find, veg-friendly but not 100% veg
