Could do with more robust options

The current vegan options at Skal (as of my visit on 06/20/2026) are a soft pretzel with three different mustards, beer battered fries coated in dill vinegar with curry ketchup (lemon aioli isn't vegan), a lemon-basil cashew spread with crackers/carrots/cucumbers, a kale Caesar salad, a cucumber salad, and grilled asparagus.

My husband and I stopped in because the pretzels are from Kaffeeklatsch in Lake City and we're obsessed with them. You can get a standard sized pretzel but we upgraded to a "Viking" sized 1lb one. The pretzel was fantastic, very fresh, and the mustards (wholegrain, IPA Dijon, and lingonberry) were sharp and delicious. The flavor of the cashew spread was good, but it's not a smooth cheese-like texture, and at $15 it's too gritty to be worth getting again. They've got a good selection of mild beers (pilsners, light sours) and a great range of n/a drinks. My main gripe is that their vegan options aren't very robust; they don't have any vegan entrees or sandwiches. Unless you're really a salad person, this is more of a drinks and snacks kind of place than it is a lunch or dinner place.

It's worth noting that when you enter the building, there's a full (presumably real, but I didn't ask) sheepskin up on the wall as part of the decor. It's probably obvious from the whole viking thing, but they also have a lot of flesh foods, some of which would definitely put me off my food if I'd had to see them. It was pretty empty when we were there though, so I'd recommend going in the mid afternoon to minimize that risk.

Pros: A vegan soft pretzel is all I need in life, Good beer, More options than I'd expect from a Viking theme

Cons: No vegan entrees/mains, Some animal skin decor, Lots of flesh foods served
