Not the best

My friends really like the protein options while I found it to be a little one dimensional.

Good among limited options

On vacation we were visiting the River Arts District and the Grey Eagle was one of two possible options that popped up in our search for a vegan lunch option in the area. The Grey Eagle is a concert venu and bar with a with basic menu of tacos, fries and fried plantains. Their regular menu only had one taco we could eat, Black bean and sweet potato with onion, cilantro and lime. The black bean taco was surprisingly good. Also tried their special of the day taco of Jerk Tempeh served with cilantro and lime which was very good. We shared a healthy serving of fried plantains as an additional side. The dipping sauce served with the plantains contains mayo, but our server was thoughtful to offer a substitute of their homemade creamy pumpkin seed salad dressing as a delicious substitute.

Pros: Gluten free corn tortillas , One of few vegan options in the River Arts Distric

Cons: Very limited vegetarian/ vegan options

Solid option if you’re in the area

Random dive bar that happens to have food. But a good option if you’re in the area or seeing a show!

I got the quinoa bowl with vegan chorizo. It was good, not amazing, but definitely made me feel good that I had a quinoa bowl after many beers! 😂 Good amount of outside seating.

Surprisingly good!

We stopped in here before starting a walking tour of the arts District. Certainly not a fancy place, it’s a music venue with some outdoor tables and chairs arranged in kind of a haphazard way. But the tacos were very good. Price is quite reasonable, and service was good.

Best veg burritos in town

I do enjoy good “fake meat” options at times, but there’s a special place in my heart (and mouth) for the real deal. Grey Eagle taqueria doesn’t mess around- they have lentil chorizo, cauliflower, or sweet potato and black bean burritos. And they are SO DELICIOUS. They have other yummy options besides burritos, too. And I love their sides- I’m all about sides- Plantanos Majuros, street corn, cilantro lime French fries...
Honestly, this is my favorite go-to restaurant in Asheville when I’m wanting comfort food (or really anytime I’m hungry).

Pros: It’s “real” food (plant based), Delicious, Cool laid back, low key atmosphere

Solid spot

Cool place with indoor and patio seating. Have a whole vegan section on their menu with about 3 different taco options. They also have maduros that are vegan. Food was good, not great! Slightly dry - wish they had some hot sauce available. Happy they had options though!

Just okay

There are far better vegan options in Asheville. The location is super cool, in a divey bar connected to a music venu. Other than that there was a lot to be desired for vegans. No longer offering seitan or tempeh, they have 3 vegan taco options, lentil chorizo, roasted cauliflower, and black bean sweet potato.

The lentil chorizo was terrible, flavorless and dry. Not sure if we got a bad batch but it was not good. The black bean and sweet potato was okay, probably would give 3.7/5 stars. The roasted cauliflower was amazing!! Flavors were on point, layering of fresh veggies, super yummy. IDK how one taco was amazing and one was so awful, but that's how it was!

I'd go there for the roasted cauliflower again but nothing else. Also the side of guac we ordered was tiny and browned. :(

Pros: One amazing taco

Cons: Rest of tacos not so good, Not a lot for vegans

Vegan Options for Tacos/Salads/Burritios & Sides

This food spot located inside of The Grey Eagle has changed names and cooks a number of times. But, at least, for the last several years, I believe it has been a taco spot ...

I recently ate at the latest incarnation -- The Grey Eagle Taqueria -- and I have to say that my most recent experience was the best experience I've had. The "Lentil Chorizo" and "Tempeh Asada" we both good taco/salad/burrito proteins (and OF COURSE it's nice to be able to choose between more than one vegan protein option in a taco spot). And, additionally, the sides we ordered -- the small Fiambre salad, and the rice and beans -- were both rather hearty and tasty.

The two complaints I have had about previous incarnations of this kitchen were that I felt like I spent more than I wanted to when I went there, and that the sides were kinda small. But, neither of these were the case when I most recently visited The Grey Eagle Taqueria. So, I imagine I'll be back there quite soon.

Pros: a couple vegan protein options, hearty vegan sides

dive bar deliciouso

In a dive bar in the river arts district. Check out all the galleries and studios and head over for some grub. Lots of vegan options, super friendly staff, awesome tacos. The vegan chorizo is made in house and is really good (it's spicy)

Pros: taste , staff
