"Plant Based" in name only

The name is certainly deceptive given the default choices for entres included meat and cheese. A plant-based option is a special order. Otherwise it was ok but nothing special given the plethora of great options on San Francisco. Vegan Breakfast Burrito was all over the place, pesto Mexican black beans and potatoes. Smoothies looked pretty good.a bit of a wait. I'll probably pass next time.

Pros: Good hot sauce options; many vegan options

Cons: Vegan option not the default, deceptive name

a few very good vegan options

This is a decent place to go with omnivores for lunch. I like the full belly salad a lot and sometimes they have a vegan dessert. They used to have an awesome vegan and gluten free chocolate cake, but now they don't have it anymore.

Pros: friendly staff

Cons: serves animals, expensive

Vegan lunch

Cute place for lunch, not a lot of seating but if it’s nice put you can take it to go and sit in the plaza. Lots of vegan options, I had yellow curry bowl, very flavorful. They also have vegan cookies and cupcakes but I did not try those.

pretentious

Food is okay but there’s nothing special about it. Everything tastes the same like they’ve never heard of seasoning

Yes for breakfast

Enjoyed tofu scramble, vegan butter and jam offered. They serve a special brand of coffee that has unique flavor and offer plant milk creamers. Light and airy space with window seating if you like to watch everyone hustling to work.

Pros: financial district, power walking required.

Cons: Doesn't open til 7:30 a.m.

Average

Had an avocado and grapefruit salad. It should really have been called "rocket salad" lol. It was alright, better than Mixt Greens but I'll try a non-salad next time. Such a shame none of the wraps are vegan :(

Location's a bit tricky to find too. Don't look on California st, walk down Front st past the car park entrance. It's on the corner of Front and Pine.

just what I needed.

Very healthy and woke me right up from walking all day. I had the blue green smoothie which was to die for. I would like the smoothie on tape at home. I also have a curry bowl which tasted like it was made from home which is nothing like I would get back in Britain.

Pros: very healthy.

Cons: not great if you are looking for fast, greasy food

great brunch!

We ate brunch at The Plant Organic Cafe and we're happy to see more then a few vegan options on the menu. We had the Tofu Pesto Spinach Scramble and it was the best breakfast scramble we'd had in a long time, maybe ever. Fresh squeezed juices were also nice. The ambiance of the place is very relaxing, nicely designed and right on the water, with tables outside. Service was friendly and prompt. Highly recommended!

visiting the city!

Great place! I was here in the city for my birthday hoping I wouldn't go deprived for lack of vegan choices! Very happy to find this place! I had a freshly made green power juice and house made granola with fruit... Perfect way to start the day!

The Plant Cafe Organic - Downtown

I don't know why I didn't try Plant Cafe Organic during my last SF visit, but I will say I was certainly missing out! I'm so in love with Plant Organic that I ended up eating there three times (once at the pier, downtown, and airport location). If you're like me, tired of fake meats, this is the place for you. They have the most amazing burger called the Plant Burger, the patty is made in-house from lentils, mushrooms, beets, cashews & bulgur wheat served with tomato, grilled onions, lettuce, house-made pickles, vegan aioli & side salad (get it on the wheat bread). I loved this burger so much that I ate it for lunch 3 days in a row, what can I say? It was just awesome! The downtown location was overcrowded, if you go during lunch, forget about finding a seat - I took my meal to-go. But despite how busy they are during lunch, they were pretty quick with the carry out orders. Unfortunately I forgot to ask for the wheat bread this time around and ended up with the bun, I much prefer the wheat bread as the bun is pretty average. Overall, Plant Cafe Organic is one of my favorites in SF, however, the pier location definitely my favorite for the views and atmosphere. (5 cows - the site won't let me rate it above 4)

Fun Restaurant

My son Jacob and I patronized the location right by the Embarcadero BART station (101 California Street). At lunchtime, it's a high-volume operation. Order at the counter, hunt for a seat, and wait for the food to arrive.

We tried four dishes: the Plant Burger, Masala Vegetable Stew, Shiitake Spring Rolls (we took it for later) and a Chocolate-Banana Smoothie. The Plant Burger was a little disappointing after all the Yelp raves. My son rejected it outright; I thought the burger was average. Personally, I think Source has the best veggie burger in town. The Masala Vegetable Stew, which comes with some nice flatbread, tasted excellent, was a generous portion, and was priced attractively. My son hijacked my bowl and ate most of the stew. The Shiitake Spring Rolls were tasty but fairly expensive for what you get. The Chocolate-Banana Smoothie was fantastic, but it had an unexpectedly "adult" chocolate taste that I expected my son would reject. He loved it anyway. My overall assessment was strongly positive, and I'm sure we'll be back. I know some reviewers have complained about the price. We spent about $35 for our meal, and I thought that was fair.

I noted that my old law firm (Cooley Godward) is in the same building. If I still worked at the law firm and had this restaurant in the building, I would eat there nearly every day. We need more restaurant options like Plant Cafe. Please come to the South Bay!
