Didn’t have vegan waffles that day - Edit
The day I went they told me they did not have vegan waffles. The flour was being delivered that day, so they’d have vegan waffles tomorrow.

Great vegan options! - Edit
Saw the previous reviews about the vegan waffles not being great so I was a bit nervous but they are great now! I had the chocolate chip waffle with chocolate sauce and added strawberry and banana. They could make virtually anything on the menu vegan except for the whipped cream & bacon. Almond milk available for smoothies and coffee. Great seating on the beach & very friendly staff. Would recommend 👍🏻

I have to agree with others in that I don’t think they’ve perfected the vegan waffle recipe, but I appreciate any restaurant that tries to cater to us. With that being said, it was still a decent waffle. The latte was delicious and the location by the water was lovely. I would go again but hopefully they refine their waffle recipe in the future.

They will make anything vegan that you ask, the staff was very knowledgeable. Nice place to sit and watch the beach while enjoying a waffle and coffee (they have almond milk).

Great waffle, you choose the toppings you’d like, chocolate sauce is vegan. There is an option for a banana almond milk milkshake but I opted for a tropical smoothie which was also delicious.

This is not a vegan restaurant but I appreciated that they have a tasty vegan option available in this popular cafe. The atmosphere is great fun and the proprietor and staff are top notch. A great last breakfast in Costa Rica!

Best waffles I have ever had - Edit
Some of the best waffle I’ve ever had. I need to know the recipe. During our 2 days in Tamarindo we got breakfast there both days. Amazing waffles made very well. I’d give this place 5 stars if it would let me. During our dining experience some monkeys passed by in the trees above us :). The staff there were very kind and checked on us to see if we enjoyed our food and were there to help and provide a good eating experience. There smoothies were also very good. If I ever return to Costa Rica I will eat there again most definitely! And also recommend to others.😄

Vegan waffles were ok, a bit dry - Edit
I have to give it a lower review because I have to say they have not perfected the vegan waffle. My boyfriend got the regular one and said it was amazing, but mine was a bit dry. I got the vegan milkshake and that was yummy, a bit too sweet tho but if you share it’s great or if u can handle a lot of sweets.

My vegan waffle was bland and undercooked. So bland that syrup didn’t even help. Got the banana blueberry. I thought they might have mixed it up and gave me the gluten free one, but I was assured it was correct. $2 extra for a waffle that wasn’t nearly as good as everyone else’s, I’ll pass next time

My husband makes vegan waffles at home in LA and they are just as delicious as regular waffles—-more so because an animal did not have to die for it. If you use a high quality plant milk like Oatly—or even almond or coco (there are so many great ones now—-and find a decent egg replacer like “just egg” or Flax egg etc—the waffles are delicious. Our Planet is in massive peril. I write this because With some effort and practice, my husband made huge, fluffy, delicious Vegan waffles, and I don’t understand why people don’t seek to want to try—at least try—to save animals. Cows have their babies taken away from then and killed for us to eat cream, butter and milk. It’s so mean and horrific. Baby chickens are killed in a grinder alive or thrown in the trash for us to eat eggs. If we could have delicious food and not hurt animals, why would we not? It should be so easy and such a no brainer, no?

Seriously the best waffles you will find in Costa Rica!!!! Outstanding staff, incredible coffee, superb waffles, do not miss this place when visiting Tamarindo. They offer vegan waffles and also gluten free. 5 out of 5 from me! Dont forget to get a cool sticker!

Hidden Gem - Edit
This cute little breakfast/brunch spot was hidden down an alley so we did not see it until our last morning but we had to try it! They had an option to make the waffle vegan and they were very accommodating! The waffle itself was amazing and so fresh. The man who worked there was so nice and told us about a hidden beach where we ended up going and saw a ton of wildlife. Highly recommend the fruit of the day for the fellow vegans!

No solo estaba buenísimo, es que además me lo he comido sentada frente al mar con un café helado con leche de soja con mucha espumita. Lloro. Y todos súper amables en Waffle Monkey. Un diez.

Staff and vegan options confused - Edit
We have to pay $2 more for the vegan option and it's made with less ingredients. They just don't add Chantilly or honey, but they don't replace for a vegan topping. So we pay more and have less. It was expensive, but at least there is a vegan waffle option, maybe the only one in Tamarindo so far. Too sweet and staff was not friendly to explain the confused vegan options. You have to ask for the vegan ingredients, one by one, and the guys were so confused about what was vegan. We can drink an ice coffee with soy milk. No vegan milk shake or ice cream options.

Friendly atmosphere close to the beach! - Edit
I’m so glad we got to try this place before we leave Tamarindo! Waffle Monkey is a small almost-beachfront little cafe that serves up yummy waffles with all kinds of toppings. We opted for banana, peanut butter and chocolate syrup and my husband swapped out the chocolate for shredded coconut. Both were delicious and absolutely massive portion sizes (from a UK perspective, at least!). I felt that the menu was somewhat confusing as a vegan, but the staff were very helpful and were happy to suggest vegan toppings. The waffles themselves were vegan so it was just a matter of deciding what toppings to have on them. We sat outside since we were super sandy! It was a really fun lunch and perfect location near the beach means I’d absolutely recommend it to hungry families visiting Tamarindo Beach!
