I was happy when Wholesome Junkies found a new home in Hinterland in Northern Quarter. It is a welcoming new setting and same great food as the previous location. Tots and the breakfast burger are very good.

Great food, slow service! - Edit
3 of us went for the Sunday roast.
Read moreThe food was absolutely spot on, with 3 choices of ‘meats’, chick*n Kiev, sausages or oyster mushroom.
I had the Kiev which was incredible.
Portions were generous and prices reasonable for the area.
I am marking down one point as it took an hour for our food to arrive after ordering. I appreciate the place was busy, but that’s still a hell of a long wait for it!
Still, it wouldn’t put me off and at least I’ll know to expect a wait next time!
Pros: Sunday roast! , Friendly staff, Prices
Cons: Waiting for your food!

So glad to have Wholesome Junkies back! - Edit
When their old restaurant closed down, I was almost in tears, so I had to get my fix as soon as they reopened at Hinterland, a sober bar in a slightly odd location. The food was just as amazing as I remembered, with some new positions to try out. I went a bit wild with the Asian small plates: I had the Korean poppers, the salt and pepper tots, and the grilled dumplings (which turned out to be the highlight of my little feast). My plan is to eat through their entire menu, everything is just so good!

10/10 I'll take one of everything! - Edit
Wow I went to wholesome junkies with very high expectations, so to have these surpassed was a feat!
Read moreI have been vegan almost 7 years, and hands down just had the best vegan burger I've ever tried.
I ordered the OG burger and it was melt in my mouth delicious. Highly highly recommend, this place is a must visit.
My partner had the breakfast burger (which he reported was good!) and we shared the Thai fries (Also very good!).
In terms of the venue it's a wholesome, woodsy vibe, very small tables so best for groups of 2 or 3 people.
Pros: Flavour, Cosy vibes, Excellent service
Cons: A bit pricey

Also to add, the coffee here is great too!

Fantastic food, slightly strange location - Edit
Have been wanting to try Wholesome Junkies for years and sorry to have missed them in their previous location.
Read moreThe food is excellent and you will not be disappointed. Tried a burger and several sides and everything was fantastic.
The new location is an alcohol free bar in the basement of the Buddist Centre. It's a cool space but feels like completely the wrong vibe for the food. I would feel very at home in here with some kind of cold pressed juice or healthy breakfast.
The space is very compact and the music is quiet and calm. It felt extremely awkward and you could hear every word anyone else said. They also seemed slightly disorganised but I'll put this down to it being a weekday daytime at the start of a new residency.
The plates are tiny and it's impossible to eat without making a mess. They're stingy with Napkins and the basins in the toilets are not large enough to physically get an adults hands under the tap. It's small things but they make a difference, especially when you're feeling very self concious due to the environment. It's certainly not the place to face-plant a burger!
Still giving 5 stars as I don't want to penalise either Wholesome Junkies or Hinterland which are both grest concepts in their own respect. However with the very greatest respect, I hope Wholesome Junkies find a better location and Hinterland find a more suitable food offer.

Incredible vegan food - Edit
My partner and I have just moved to Manchester and were delighted to see that the much celebrated ‘Wholesome Junkies’ now have a residency at the alcohol free bar ‘Hinterland’. I have been vegan for 8 years and wow — the vegan prawn toast is the best vegan snack I have ever had. We picked our way through some of the starters (prawn toast, sweet and sour chicken balls, Asian fries) and had a burger each. The peanut butter hot chocolate was also fabulous! The staff were so friendly and welcoming. So pleased to see this new initiative. Incredible vegan food!
