Excellent upscale vegan - Edit
Amazing vegan restaurant in Old San Juan. This is the kind of place where you can order anything on the menu and it will be great. The food is made fresh and the dishes are imaginative and well-executed. This is not re-heated processed food. The caprese salad was fantastic. The restaurant ambiance is upscale. We were able to get a table without a reservation but some other guests had reservations. They’re only open Friday-Monday 6-10PM so don’t miss this restaurant if you’re visiting. A meal for two with a couple of appetizers, entrees, a mocktail, and dessert was $130 with tax and tip. The food is worth the price and it was more food than we could eat - we took the dessert to go.

A proper night out! - Edit
This was such a great spot for a nice dinner. The ambience is lovely and all the food was delicious and so nicely prepared. We got the potato mushroom soup (omg), tofu/pear toast, and shared the pasta special. The crème brûlée was excellent as well! I would definitely recommend this place.

Fabulous Plant Based Restaurant in Old San Juan! - Edit
I have been vegan for 12 years and this is one of the best vegan restaurants that I have ever eaten in! Many of their tapas are a meal in themselves, all are just amazingly delicious!

The food here is decadent, it’s a very memorable experience. The hosts and chef really went above and beyond to make a special dining experience.

The food and drinks felt special. The vegan cheesecake was the best I’ve ever had. The pad Thai with chili vinegar was delicious too.
Really worth the visit.

Pinnacle food experience - Edit
We were happy to sustain ourselves on regional Caribbean cuisine on our trip to Puerto Rico, but decided to splurge on Aliado, it being the only fully vegan restaurant in Old San Juan. It’s not that it’s expensive but it can add up if you order all the things since they all sound so good—and they were! We got the emulsified cashew cream and olives starter with house made crackers/bread. The flavors and textures were so good that I kept nibbling on it even after I was full. The mozzarella appetizer was so fresh—what is their secret?! We also had fantastic cocktails—a mezcal drink and a rum Negroni. The pasta dish was interestingly the only entree on the menu. We got that and shared it. The presentation was not as good as everything else but again the flavors were wonderful, including the house made pasta. In addition, server was great, making it an overall positive experience.

Please don’t miss Aliado in SJ! - Edit
The experience at Aliado was incredible. The atmosphere was romantic and warm. We had a group of 4 and ordered 6 dishes total! A second caprese was ordered because it was so well done and delicious! The flavors of all the dishes were well balanced and thoughtful. We enjoyed the homemade “cheeses” which were tasty and had amazing texture. The pasta was delicious as well! I highly highly recommend this gem in Viejo San Juan!

So glad I stopped in to Aliado on my most recent visit. The location is beautiful, with multiple rooms set up for cosy dining. My cocktails were perfect, and each course I chose was incredible with local ingredients. Looking forward to coming back.

Everything was delicious. We had the Jackfruit Fricasé Pasta and the Pistachio Crème Brûlée for dessert — both were delightful. The service was attentive, and the ambience was warm and inviting.

Life changing pistachio brûlée - Edit
Classy, though somewhat impractical, environment with clean, upscale decor. We could have licked the plate clean of the basil oil drizzled over homemade mozzarella, but we made our peace with soaking it up with the crispy, fresh focaccia. We were warned of the long wait for the ravioli special, which was accurate but worth it. The second pasta dish, cacio e pepe, was just okay. We were truly blown away by the flavor and texture of the pistachio brûlée. We were seated in a living-room style space which got uncomfortable over time. Cocktails were nice, and had the second pasta dish been more flavorful and the seating more practical, it would have been a 5 star experience.

Great Vegan Meal - Edit
Had a really lovely meal here while in Old San Juan. The service was top notch and we enjoyed dining on the patio. Caprese salad was 10/10! Definitely a must go for vegans in PR.

Delicious - Edit
This was one of the best meals of my life! My friends and I split all the aperitivos and it was amazing. The pumpkin soup was one of our favorites, as was the focaccia with tomatoes mozzarella and pesto. Great ambiance as well. Doing 4 stars instead of 5 because the pasta took 2.5 hours to come out (it was also very small for $26, you can skip this)

Trust the chef and come for the day’smenu - Edit
This is truly a gem! Come here if you want amazing cuisine with a menu that changes daily. The menu is small, with only a few choices, 4 total today, but that’s because you don’t need to have other choices! They are all delicious! In house made vegan cheese, top notch flavors, and oh so good! We ordered three of the four day’s menu items and my husband had specialty drink and I had a kombucha. Service was great, atmosphere was perfect, and food was delicious!

Spectacular ‘brie’ sandwich - Edit
I returned to San Juan for vacation this year in part to go back to Aliado. The Brie sandwich (which I think is cashew based and creamy, fluffy, and tangy) on sourdough with French onion dipping broth was 10/10 no notes. I also got the chili bean burrito to go for dinner and it was also delicious, 9/10. #Veganuary

Overpriced and Pretentious – Not Worth the Hype - Edit
I usually don’t write reviews, but after my experience at Aliado, I feel compelled to warn others. The servers here were incredibly pretentious and condescending, making the entire experience feel uncomfortable. To be fair, there was one exception – a tiny girl with reddish hair who was genuinely friendly and helpful, but she was unfortunately the exception, not the rule.
Read moreAs for the food, it was decent but way overpriced for what was served. It felt like the restaurant was trying way too hard to push a "fine dining" experience, but in reality, it was more like a trendy, overpriced take on "clean eating" aimed at the gentrified crowd. The whole vibe just screamed forced authenticity and pretentiousness.
It’s a shame because the ambiance was nice, but the food didn’t live up to the inflated prices, and the service was uncomfortable. I won’t be coming back, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone unless you’re looking to overpay for a mediocre experience.
Pros: Hard to think of one
Cons: Service, Prices, Gentrification

Great food, cocktails and a beautiful setting - Edit
Aliado offers a lovely atmosphere in the center of the old town. The food is high quality and very tasty and I appreciate that they make their own cashew cheeses. The menu is quite small (1 page) with mostly smaller dishes. A great place for a special occasion or treat.
