Wonderful experience!

We ordered about five different dishes and each of them was delicious. The food is served hot and we got our food pretty fast. We especially liked the tempeh and the nasi goreng.

Delicious Indonesian dish

Very vegan friendly, the staff was amazing, friendly and polite. Cozy atmosphere. Deserves five (or six :)) stars, really. Tempeh was just perfect, portions big, tasty and the vegan options were plentiful. One of the best indonesian dishes I have eaten.

Lots of vegan options in Kyoto

A rare find in Kyoto, someplace with more than 2/3 vegan options. A very kind man ran the floor all by himself, and whoever was in the kitchen did a great job with the food. Lovely flavours.

Pros: Taste, Variety of vegan options, People

Yummy tempeh!

Their tempeh here is soooo good! I am really glad I tried it. They also had a great veggie dish with coconut and a jackfruit and rice steamed in a banana leaf. Everything was great and portions were small enough to make sharing easy.

I am allergic to peanuts so a lot of the menu is off limits to me but the owner is so nice and helpful with navigating both veganism and allergies.

What a great find!

Deserves 5 stars, delicious!!

The best food we have had in Japan so far! So many healthy and fresh vegan options, lots of flavour and a really cool/cosy atmosphere. Service was super friendly too! Whilst travelling around Tokyo and Niseko I couldn’t believe how hard to was to find vegan tofu or tempeh dishes!! Bali bali had the most delicious tempeh and home made dipping sauce. We’ll definitely make it back over our 3 days in Kyoto.

Pros: So many vegan options! , Delicious and fresh , Cool place to sit, cosy and good music!

great food, lots of options

The food was quite delicious, though a bit on the small side. However, appropriate for the small prices.
There were several vegan choices available. The ambiance was very pleasant, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive.

YUM!! 5 stars if I could!

My vegan family of 4 came here tonight looking for a break from the Japanese set meals. This restaurant had plenty of vegan options clearly marked. The tempura tempeh appetizer was delish. My gado gado (has deep fried tofu) was one of the best meals I have ever had! My family loved their dishes. The peanut sauce is spicy, just how I like it. And the fried bananas!! And very reasonably priced.
Located up 2 flights of very narrow stairs. We can not find vegan Indonesian food where we live, so this place was a lovely find.

Tasty, inexpensive, but small portions

Items that are vegan or can be made vegan are clearly marked. Main dishes are around 850 yen ($6) but a little smaller than typical Japanese dishes, so might not be enough for growing teenagers (just order another dish). Restaurant on is on 3F (3rd floor), and only a small sign out front.

Perfect Indonesian Cuisine

The food are really great! I am Balinese and I think it's delicious, he nailed the food balance with great Japanese ingredient. The place is a bit small and hard to find but worth it. Very nice cozy restaurant but only open for dinner. The menu is very clear for vegetarian option. The owner are very friendly and passioned about Bali, he even speaks a little Bahasa!

Pros: Excellent Food, Friendly Owner, Wide variety of choices

Cons: Small place, Hard to find

Smoking inside

I didn’t get a chance to try the food here - I had to walk out because smoking was permitted inside and I couldn’t breathe. A pity.

Pros: Clearly marked vegetarian options on the menu, English menu available

Cons: Smoking inside. It’s a deal breaker for me.

5 stars

Very cozy place, although a bit hard to find. The Gado Gado was so good, the martabak tempe was not quite my cup of tea, but very well done, quite like an omelette (which I never liked) but better. The staff was very good and helpful and the ginger wine was delicious.

Great food

We had the mie goreng, nasi goreng and fried tempeh. Everything was fantastic. Owner knew what vegan was. Explained what sauces I could eat and what I couldn’t. Even put the egg on the side of the nasi goreng so my boyfriend could eat it. Lots of people saying it takes ages to cook, ours came out within 30 minutes. Was inexpensive and portion sizes good.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Nice and cosy, Great staff

Cons: Nothing

Great Vegan Options in Heart of Theatreland

Authentic Indonesian restaurant with some great vegetarian and vegan dishes. Vegan options aren't specified on the menu but staff are happy to help and most veggie dishes can be veganized. Delicious food and friendly service!
(Would give 5 stars if Happy Cow would let me!)

Authentic Indonesian cuisine with the best tempeh I've tasted

I am Malaysian so this is the closest restaurant I can find in Kyoto that serves food which reminds me of home. All of their vegan dishes are fantastic but I highly recommend anything that has their signature fried tempeh in it. My favorite is the nasi pecel. They source their tempeh from Indonesian tempeh artisan Rustono so you can be sure it is one of the most authentic and delicious tempeh you've ever tasted. Owners are super friendly and welcoming to their guests. Tucked away in a quiet street among the hustle and bustle of touristy Gion, this is the perfect spot to spend the evening with your friends and loved ones after a day of sight-seeing.

Pros: Delicious and affordable food, Central location, Friendly and warm atmosphere
