great vegan options

This place was a go to throughout my years at UMass. They have tofu and veggies burritos (and I think beyond beef?) but my favorite is the Seitan! I used to get it in a burrito slathered in BBQ sauce which sometimes made it too sweet, but still delicious. I love Bueno, they're one of my favorite burrito places, the burritos are always huge and on tuesdays you can get a free grande. usually it's just an extra 50 cents anyways for grande and let me tell you, it's a huge burrito. I usually get a grande if I want to have 2 meals. Regular for if I'm pretty hungry or maybe want some leftovers, and tacos if I'm not as hungry. They used to have a vegan queso but I haven't seen it on the menu in a while so I think it ended up being fairly temporary. If you're looking for a good vegan option during a day out in Amherst, Bueno is great!

Pros: big portions, reasonable prices, great atmosphere

Good in a pinch

This is a good chiplotle-like fast food chain with pretty good meat substitutes like Seitan. They make a pretty good burrito, but not the best I ever had.

Pros: More than one meat substitute, Fast

Cons: Not very vegan friendly

My go-to for vegan burritos

They have delicious tofu and seitan with a variety of sauce options, and vegan queso that is a free substitute for cheese.

Not vegan friendly anymore

Used to enjoy vegan options here for years, but something has shifted recently, and regardless of requesting and confirming no cheese please, burrito has come with cheese & this last time was horrified to find meat mixed in. Very unfortunate, gave this place numerous chances as they used to be vegan friendly, but am so turned off by this repeated mistake of adding animal product despite numerous requests and clarifying. Won’t be returning.

Best Place Ever!

Bueno y Sano is a staple in my diet! Their menu is labelled with letters to show which items are vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free. Most items can also be made vegan if you ask for them without cheese and sour cream! My favorite thing to get there are their bean burritos with no cheese. The service there is usually pretty fast unless you come at a busy hour, and all the staff are very nice and accommodating.

Pros: Friendly staff, Delicious food

Cons: Can be busy

meh

I used to love Bueno until I became vegan and now I realize that there aren't many good meatless options. I got a seitan burrito and it cost me $10. That's a pretty steep price for a burrito that wasn't very good. They kinda just drenched it with sauce and stuffed it with lettuce. I probably won't go here again.

Pros: Fast service

Cons: Price does not reflect quality

bueno es bueno

Everyone who has lived in Amherst knows of Bueno Y Sano. They are a classic budding business-- great food so great, they expanded to Northampton and Springfield in the past 5 (or so) years. Vegan options: bean burrito, salvadorian (bean and veg) burrito, chick pea burrito, seitan burrito (oh, there are salads but I've never had 'em!). They will put yogurt or sour cream or something in all burritos by default, but they are the most customizable place I've ever been to... whatever you want, you can get. I always say "no dairy, add guac" so that the yogurt and the cheese gets left out. Guac is sooo good.

Pros: meat eaters will love it too, bring your friends, convenient and cheap

Cons: can get busy

I've never been impressed. I have friends who love bueno (it's a chain restaurant) but they all eat meat so maybe that's part of it. Nothing is particularly flavorful or interesting. I'll eat here if it's where the crew decides to go but I would never choose it on my own. With so many great restaurants in the area, skip bueno.

Good fast food

I do love Bueno, even though in the past cheese was sometimes added to my burrito. In the past couple of years as I have learned to be very clear when ordering I have not had any mishaps with my burritos. Whole wheat wraps are available upon request, and I often make multiple requests with my burritos such as to not include any rice or cheese. I love the options for fillings and find the sautéed spinach and garlic the most tasty addition. Tofu is also available to add into burritos. Bueno Is a great option for relatively fast, relatively inexpensive, and always ample portions.

Pros: Large portions, Fast service most of the time, Fat Tuesdays: Grande burritos for regular $

Cons: Past issues with cheese added to burritos, You must be clear when ordering your specification

Great food, large portions!

I love this restaurant -- the burritos are easy to veganize, and they have lots of vegan filling options. I have not tried the tofu or seitan, as they are the most expensive fillings. The burritos are big, so, unless you're very hungry, you can probably get two meals out of them.

Pros: big portions, lots of options

Not as bad as everyone says

It's sad that so many people had bad experiences here. Bueno is great. They have huge portions, and the seitan is full of flavor. Being a conscious consumer is important, making sure that they've understood what you order is REALLY not hard, and they usually get it right. Yuppies need to chill.

Pros: mondo portions, seitan

Cons: sometimes get your order wrong

Good and cheap

I used to go to the one up in Burlington while in college, and am excited to see one in the area now that I moved here. The food is nothing extraordinary, but it is what it is- lots of good food for cheap. Glad to see plenty of vegan options on the menu. The grande burito is huge for a small price upgrade.

Pros: Good value, Large servings

Cons: Unhelpful wait staff

Don't Go.

I didn't really like this place. The food had no taste. They also forgot to give us part of the order. I will never go back I agree that this place is not worth it.

Cons: bland food, bad service

Seitan? Dead animal!

Simply put, this place is horrific. I suppose when you cater to 19 year old college kids who just want some calories, you don't have to care, and they don't. They don't so much that when I recently ordered seitan tacos, they turned out to be CHICKEN! One bite got me sick to my stomach. I returned the dead carcass and vowed never to return.

By all means, stay away!

Pros: Nice cooks, The word "seitan" appears on the menu, Close to better places

Cons: Terrible food, Seitan had a mother, Did I mention how dreadful the food is?

bad food

this place has a few vegan options, but they're not good at all. even the grande burrito is on the small side. they offer seitan, but it doesn't taste good. the burrito fillings are often not mixed together at all, which is just lazy. they recently passed out five dollar gift certificates to five college students, and even at that discount it's still not worth it.

Cons: lousy food, bad atmosphere, overpriced
