They have plant-based protein that is very welcome

I went twice, about a week apart. First time I needed a vegan burger. Walked by in the afternoon and they have sandwich board copies of their menu. Was happy to see they carried the UnMeat brand of vegan meats out of Manila, which are also available at the Robinson's super market north of Station 1.

I returned about 9:45pm, because they are open until 11pm. Got the vegan burger and the side plate of grilled garlic mushrooms. The 'shrooms were very tasty, arriving in a sizzing hot plate in oil and garlic (but not too much oil). Even though they are canned whole mushrooms, they were good quality, and I got them to add to the burger.

The burger patty itself was fine, there was cucumber, tomato and a little lettuce on top. But the patty was overwhelmed by the mediocre white bun, which collapsed when trying to add the shrooms and when sliced in half, because it was big. That made eating it messy. They need to improve upon the bun, big time.

I ordered the lemonade which was good and full of lemons, and a separate tonic water and asked for an extra glass to mix the two. However they brought them both with plastic straws after I had made it explicit that under no circumstances did I want straws, because of course as someone who cares about the environment, there is no excuse to use plastic straws. I was pretty upset about that and let them know that.

In contrast to the mellow afternoon scene, at night the restaurant/bar at this hostel was full of drunk Westerners playing beer pong and smoking cigarettes, making it hard to breathe and eat without inhaling the smoke, even though it is open air and they have fans on. A typical hostel scene, but a real downer. Unless you want to drink beer and smoke cigarettes while eating your vegan burger, I would recommend going earlier in the evening.

I went back a second time at 6pm, got the vegan pasta with vegan sausage, which was excellent, better than the vegan burger. I added the side of sizzling mushrooms, along green olives I brought the Robinson's super market, and organic black lemon pepper from my coop in California, which I travel with, for taste, which I thought really improved the dish greatly. If I return, I would return for the pasta.

At this earlier hour, no one was smoking cigarettes nearby this time until I was finishing my meal

They don't take credit cards. But the prices are reasonable. For example, the burger, separate mushroom plate, both drinks and with the 10% service charge, was maybe US$1

Most food tastes good

Filo and western food. Good pricing for Boracay. Only thing I didn’t like was the burger but everything tasted great.
