They got the order wrong (I Asked for tofu on the side but they gave me a whole dish from the menu and made me pay for it)
Dau Hu Sot Ca is not recommended
Curry is too heavy for my taste very strong in coconut. Service is ok, not overly friendly
Still 5 stars because of the salad. I only go for the banana blossom salad because it has the best nuoc mam Chay in my opinion. Very cheap too
The other dishes I tried don’t impress me
Also it can get crowded and you share tables with strangers

Das Restaurant hatte viele vegane Optionen, das Essen an sich war ok, ich persönlich habe schon besser vietnamesisch gegessen… Es war sehr laut und viel los, wir hatten lange Wartezeiten beim bestellen und bis hin zum bezahlen.

Not the best noodle place - Edit
Maybe the description of dishes was poor, but I have impression that all the options are quite similar and include same ingredients. For vegan options all noodle dishes are made with rice noodles. I really wished to have udon instead - so they could only offer one dish - Banh Cahn Ca Ri - which is originally not vegan, and they adopted it to be vegan. It turned out good, but pretty greasy, or I just not a fan of coconut. The Pho Xao Sot Me was too sweet and not enough spicy... thin noodles make it even more disturbing. From all three tastes that are advertised (sweet sour and spicy) i could taste only sweetness.. So, probably I would not go there again - after dinner I saw nearby a place with vegan ramen which looked better 😏

Read moreI ordered one of my favourite dishes, Pho, and I really liked it. The broth was well seasoned, and the herbs, veggies and mushrooms gave it the right flavor. You can decide between a small and a big portion. I had the big one and it's enough to fill you up but not too much so you feel too full afterwards.
My friend had the Dau Hu Sot Cam which was on the daily menu. It was baked tofu with carrots, beans, onions, mushrooms, herbs and peanuts in an orange sauce with rice on the side. My friend really liked it but also said you have to be the person who likes sweet sauces to enjoy it because the orange taste is really strong.
The place is pretty busy every night so it can be possible for you to have to wait a little before getting seated. We were wanting around less than 5 minutes.
The service is still pretty quick with taking your order and bringing you the dish even though the place is so busy.

Amazing food, fair prices - Edit
Chum Chay is always a great place to get a meal. Everything on the menu is at least vegetarian, most of the items also vegan.
Read moreAtmosphere is cosy, food is ready fast and even though it's one of the "in" spots in Cologne, prices are very fair.
The only downside: In the evening always very crowded and people are waiting to get a table, so it's not really a place to stay for long. But there are plenty of bars around the corner, so no problem once you're done eating.

Worth waiting for if there is a line... Dishes were full of flavor and filled us up. We got the rice noodles with coconut sauce and fried tofu as well as the special of the day which was tofu and veggies in a fresh orange sauce. It is nearly fully vegan except for a couple of clearly marked items which were vegetarian

We walked by this place and the restaurant was packed inside and outside with a line of people waiting to get in. Good sign, so we came back later when the line wasn’t so long. It appeared that Chum Chay is popular for good reason. Excellent Vietnames food. Mostly vegan and some vegetarian options. Big portions, fast service, friendly folks. All good!

The menu is quite small but more than sufficient. Everything we ordered was delicious and the prices are fair. However, the dishes contained coriander which wasnt mentioned in the menu so if you dislike coriander I'd advise you to tell the waiter
