i wish happy cow would let me leave 5 stars for a non vegetarian restaurant because this was hands down best sushi i’ve ever had. i went with my family, two of us vegan and two meat eaters and even the carnivores were impressed by our vegan sushi boat- where you got to choose 4 orders of sushi with 10 pieces each for a massive beautiful feast.

11/10 would recommend! if you’re eating vegetarian or vegan in fortuna, this is the place to go!

Great service! Sushi boat was over the top and all vegan. Not to be missed if you are vegan and visiting the volcano. Nice change from rice and beans.

We got the vegan sushi boat as it seemed like a good deal for how much you got. I've never been out for sushi before and when I've tried it in the past I've never liked it. Sushi is definitely not my favourite food but I did liked it here and enjoyed the food especially the crispy vegan sushi.

It was my first time having vegan sushi and I loved it so much. I could decide which of the rolls was my favorite, each of them had really great flavor combinations. The "bebida de los dioses" drink/smoothie was delicious as well. A definite recommend, plus the waiter was super nice!

I felt like the "I should buy a boat" meme cat but I totally fancied the sushi boat. Great selection of vegan sushi, and the included edamame starter was a nice surprise. Somehow we managed to eat all 40 pieces between the two of us.
Read moreAlso highly recommend the spicy mango margarita. At $5 it's among the cheapest cocktails I've seen in the country and it was really really nice! Also had the tropical mojito but much preferred the margarita.

There is an entire section of the menu dedicated to vegan options. We had the vegan miso soup and the vegan boat which included plantain sushi roll, fried tempura, broccoli/cucumber and avocado. Very friendly staff and nice environment!

Vegan menu gem - Edit
Saddened by the lack of vegan options in this town I happened to walk past this cute and clean restaurant and noticed a whole vegan section of sushi. We ended up eating lunch there and loved it so much! A true gem in this part of the world. Deserves 5 stars because they actually made an effort to include vegan food on their menu.

We ordered the $29US vegan sushi boat. It was amazing. None of the sushi had nori. It was all sushi with white rice on the outside. One of the rolls had plantain on the top and broccoli on the inside and another had tofu. One had a crispy topping which was the best. The three of us shared one boat and we were all stuffed. Mind you we were still a bit full from the rainforest chocolate tour we had gone on a few hours earlier.

Cosy little Japanese restaurant in central La Fortuna. Highly recommend the vegan sushi boat which we had to share between the two of us and was plenty - also came with a free starter of edamame. Not your standard sushi as some made using typical Costa Rican ingredients like plantain, but also avocado which is widely used there. Delicious and nice variety.
